I can imagine this as a sort of moral story where two pika steal from each others piles, never noticing the food that's gone missing. Their piles never grow, and they are both left without enough for winter. A tale of greed and sloth leading to their downfall or something of the sort. That said, these little guys are so cute and hardworking it's hard to imagine such an outcome 😂

Pikas are thieves. Years ago, hiked up to the top of Mount Lassen. We broke for lunch, and while talking to friends holding my sandwich. a Pika took a huge leap off a rock above, grabbed the sandwich out of my hand, but was unsuccessful in carrying it away as it fell to the ground. After such an heroic leap, I just left it for him. Thought it was funny and brave.
