    as a first time owner of the Canon C70, ive pretty much watched most of your youtube channel just to learn something about the C70, and also now im thinking of getting the dzo kits, and it looks amazing, as you said, it reminded you of the cooke lenses. :)

    can you do a "versus" pricing video for high paying clients with you bringing your team and all equipment vs lower paying indy clients that you can do with one other person or yourself! would be dope to see your mindset behind it and how you prepare ! love your vids man and I'm binge watching your videos! I love seeing all the BTS and how you problem solve on the spot

    Very Cool! I was wondering how these lenses would perform in an actual shoot? Quick question, during the bike tricks, were you setting focus and pulling zoom since the lenses are parfocal or were you setting zoom and then pulling focus??

    • @GriffinConway
      @GriffinConway  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you! I was pulling manually and would choose the zoom length before the shot usually

    How well did the image match from C70 to C500 with these lenses? Seems like I always have to grade one to the other for me with L lenses.

      Dude honestly I dropped a lut over the project and only tweaked a few clips. I kept getting mixed up on which shot came from which camera. The lenses matching helps a lot

    Awesome video as always 🧡 I love watching your content. You come off like a super likeable person and super professional.
    As an amateur hoping to grow into paid gigs, but almost always shooting myself. Would you say that a manual cine is still an option for that scenario? Would for example shooting an interview solo with these even be possible? Currently only have an R6, but planning / dreaming of picking up an C70.

    Hello from British Columbia, I’m wondering if you had the .71 speed booster on with the DZO? I own a Grizzly Bear viewing company and film a lot of wildlife with my C70; I use canon L lenses with the speed booster. I’m just wanting to try out cinema lenses to see if I can get better colours, sharpness etc. I love your channel!
    Ps. If you ever want to come shoot grizzly bears, and wildlife with us, there’s an open invitation:)

    I've been looking for a versitile but filmic S35 camera as planing to use the DZO lens and Tilta Nucleus M for off camera focus pulling. I dont want to be limited to manual focusing as I would be with Komodo or Z-Cam E2S6 for those R'n'G moments where I might want to use some canon glass. I keep coming back to the C70. Then I also keep looking at blowing all that away with a FF Darkfighting A7sIII. Decisions Decisions ...

    May I ask if the IDX v mounts are running well on your C70? My batteries won’t power the C70 once the voltage drops to around 14.5V at around 50% capacity. Thanks!

    Hi Griffin I have what seems to be a major C70 issue when I record outdoors with the C70, I normally face the same problem in situations with any sort of backlight i.e the sky... the issue is every time that's the case the c70 has a fade purple / blue circle bleaches into the footage it's fairly large as well it's not just a small dot have you come across this issue yourself? i'm probably way off base here but could it have something to do with the black shading feature? another thing about this big circle is that it doesn't move so it doesn't seem like any sort of lens flare, the circle is just completely still and baked right in the centre of the frame over the footage, now indoors this doesn't happen or even outdoors when the sky isn't in frame the footage is absolutely fine until the sky is in the shot!

    The glass used for the pricy lenses at its core and the processing that goes into it is what makes those lenses expensive. There have been instances where cheaper lenses have used different Materials to keep the cost and weight down. At certain angles the way the lens refracts the light has also damaged the sensor. These are definitely super value for money and that would make up for any downside these might have over a period of time. Awesome video as always man. ✌🏽

    My 2 cents. Feels like it'll be better using Canon EF lenses as a solo operator with both these cameras since they have autofocus. Then you can get an extra stop of light with a speedbooster. And with AF, parfocal lenses won't really matter anyway. Unless you're going after a specific look that he lens offers.

    • @doug_EX
      @doug_EX 3 роки тому

      Maybe but the DZO film lenses are parfocal (most photo lenses are not) and they are great to manual focus.

    Hey Griffin, did you adjust the lens to be parfocal on the c70? I’ve been at it for 2 hrs and can’t get to right. I’m using the 20-55 and from my calculations, even with no shims, it looks like I would have to remove even more…. Any idea? Thanks.

    • @GriffinConway
      @GriffinConway  2 роки тому +1

      That was the biggest downside to these lenses in my opinion. I wish they had a chart that would say how many shims you are supposed to use with some of the main cinema cameras people will pair with these lenses. I don’t remember where I found it but there is a video on UA-cam where a guy has the c300 mark iii and shows how many shims were needed to make it work. I used that as a baseline and it got me close

    • @artwerkmedia8616
      @artwerkmedia8616 2 роки тому

      @@GriffinConway ok I’ll look for it. I used the shim amount from an other guy that has a pocket 6k and it’s very close. But the minute I remove or add it’s all over the place. So I’ll have to live with this…. Or sell the lens. I agree that it’s a big downside to these lenses. I think that manufacturer’s tolerances are good enough for them to supply a chart for every camera system. Thank for you time.

  • @BryanBenoitPhoto
    @BryanBenoitPhoto 3 роки тому

    Used the EF mount for both setups? How difficult was switching from the PL mount they come with?

    • @GriffinConway
      @GriffinConway  3 роки тому

      Actually I used ef on the c70 and pl on the C500 mark ii. It’s just 8 screws to swap and can be done in about 2 minutes. Super easy and straight forward. That’s one of my favorite features of the lenses.

    • @BryanBenoitPhoto
      @BryanBenoitPhoto 3 роки тому

      @@GriffinConway I saw on a other review where the guy said it took him 10 tries to get the correct number of shims in so it remained parafocal… :)

    • @GriffinConway
      @GriffinConway  3 роки тому

      Ahh I see what you mean. That’s actually just a one time thing. Once you figure out the correct number for the lens / mount combination you will never have to go through the process of figuring it out again. I would budget 30 mins the first time, then 2 minutes every time after that as long as you remember the amount of shims needed
