She won a Grammy award for Best Female Country Vocalist 1978 for this song. And it did cross over from country to the pop stations. Great reaction.
And Keith, if I may add my $0.02 to Dustin's comments. Definition of a musician is: a person who plays a musical instrument especially as a professional OR is musically talented. I've looked you up, I believe the latter statement applies.
One of the best buckle-polishing country songs of the 70's. Check out 'Talking in Your Sleep', 'Why have You Left the One You Left Me For' (upbeat), 'I'll Get Over You'. A lot of her songs are about love lost or love gained.

You definitely need to watch her perform and check out how long her hair is! She was famous for her floor length hair! I saw her in 2013-2014 and she could still sing and still had the floor length hair!!
There are so many great female country artist of the 70, s 80’s and 90’s it’s hard to remember them all.
One that gets little attention any more is Barbara Mandrell. An amazing singer.

I met Crystal once in Nashville. I was surprised by how tiny she was. She's lucky if she hits 5 foot even. Her hair almost reaches the floor.
This song was a country classic in my understanding, and she has a beautifully soothing voice.

Yes, Crystal is Loretta's younger sister, but they never lived at home together. There's 19 years between them, and by the time Crystal was born, Loretta was already a married mother of her own family. Crystal still singing, and I guess she just released new music in 2019, but I personally haven't heard anything from her in decades.

She never wanted to be a Country singer. You can hear the jazz influence in her music and her vocals.
A lot of country songs crossed over back in the day. I thought I was too good for country when I was a kid and then found out I actually knew quite a few country songs when I finally gave it a chance.
I agree with the way you are talking about crystal Gale's voice.And it's hard to believe that her first adventure into music using her sister Loretta's label and Management team actually failed. She almost gave up. But with the encouragement of her sister Loretta, she tried again using Nashville records with a different producer and became the success You see today

This song was the kind of hit artists dream about having. #1 Country, #2 Pop. "Talking In You Sleep" was another big crossover. On the strength of several #1s and hosting TV specials, she was pretty popular.

Crystal, is a country singer with a little bit of a Pop sound to her music she's the sister to Loretta Lynn, but she sounds very good also think you'll enjoy her.
I have always considered Crystal Gayle as a country star with lots of pop crossover. I will agree that it is not so much twangy country. More in the mold of Jim Reeves from the 50s and 60s. She has many great songs and I'd love to see you react to some of her songs. My personal favorite is "You Never Gave Up On Me". Of her bigger hits I'd suggest "You've Been Talking In Your Sleep" and "Why Have You Left The One You Left Me For". Great reaction.

Sadly, there are a lot of artists that don't make the list because they get lost in the shuffle. There are a lot of singers from the 90s that had that happen because there was an influx of great artist during that time,
I love Reaction Channels! I'd never heard of Crystal Gayle and probably never would have if y'all hadn't done this song! Now I have a new artist to go binge! Very impressive vocal performance! There was something in here voice that made me think of Karen Carpenter and she is probably my favorite female vocalist of all time!
re: whether it is or isn't country pondering that Keith was doing early on --- it got LOTS of airplay on the strictly country music station that I grew up listening to in the 80's so it qualifies for me.

We all wanted to be Crystal Gayle back in the day. She was beautiful and had a voice to match but, even though she was Loretta Lynn’s sister, I never thought of her as country. Now, having said that, if you’re not averse to a little off channel adventure, check her out singing Take Me Home with Tom Waits.
Crystal was what they called (MOR) middle of the road singers. It was big in the seventies and eighties. Crystal is considered the most successful crossover artist. She is also known for her floor length hair (Cherokee ancestry) Her music was considered country, country / pop, she got plenty of playing time on country music stations. Loretta Lynn changed Brenda Lee, to Crystal! Jay Lee Webb,p (Loretta and Krystal's brother) She's looking better by the minute - it's about the more you drink the prettier they get! Jay had a good career going himself, until his death.
I'm not sure I'd say most successful country crossover artist because Dolly led everyone on the crossover train and Dolly and Kenny enjoyed huge success as crossover artists. But she definitely made an huge impact on the pop/contemporary charts too including dueting with Eddie Rabbitt.

Grew up listening to her. Love her. Loved your reaction. I think maybe that’s what’s a little bit different about a lot of todays music, we have so much belting and vocal gymnastics now, and back then they just sang the song how it’s meant to be sung. Idk maybe I’m not explaining myself right.
