It's been forever since I've hit up a Metroid track and damn does it feel good to be back. The music of the Metroid series is so atmospheric but at the same time so metal-friendly. It allows me to do what I'm the most comfortable with while also challenging my abilities at the same time.
For this track, I didn't have a whole lot of structure to work with so I basically took the song apart and built my own arrangement out of it. I decided to incorporate some clean guitars to give it the atmospheric vibe that the original has. I also got to bust out the choirs which I always enjoy and I find that it adds a cool texture to the riffs much like the original Brinstar piece. For the leads, I used a lot of restraint and didn't shred a whole lot because the track just didn't really call for it. It's way more about the groove and the vibe this time around.
I hope you guys enjoy this track as much as I enjoyed making it!

I've listened to several other covers of this song and yet again Toxic does the best. It's so close to the original yet metal with little added. It respects the original yet adds to it enough to be something on it's own and that level of skill blows me away every time.

This and Norfair were always 2 of my fav themes from Super Metroid... the song really gets you into the mood to explore and kill some space pirates!
Her feet pounded against the ground as she barreled down the hallway. She glanced at her wrist, seeing the timer roll under the three-minute mark. The reflection of a smile glinted off the inside of her helmet visor as she entered the room. Four of the Metroid replicants were charging at her from two of the hallways in front of her.
Samus felt her arm shift at the mental command as she rolled her shoulder forward. The first rocket sent her inches backward along the ground, dust, and dirt forming trails before her feet. It streamed forward into the central hallway slamming into the first foe and exploding, sending pieces skittering down the hall with squishy retorts. She turned to face the second hall but was hit by the second two in a rush.
Instinct overrode thought, and her body acted in a striking flash. She turned and slammed her heel into the torso of the first replicant. It still made her skin crawl at how accurate these new Metroid’s were to her own suit. But it was no suit, it was some sort of flesh compound the Metroid had synthesized into place. It lacked the weight her suit had, and her kick staggered the first enemy back into the second.
They reacted faster than she had expected though, and they launched each other at her in a frenzy. She dashed to them and extended her hands as if to grapple again. When they reached for her, taking the bait, her spatial modulator kicked in, and she shifted, rolling behind them as she dispensed an energy mine. They turned just as she resumed her full stance, trying to flee the mine and grasp her in one motion.
She launched a double-footed attack this time, kicking off the first foe, and stumbling the pair once more. They tripped over each other, and one of the two landed squarely on the mine as it discharged. Samus flipped behind a nearby desk at what appeared to be an entry station as the blast shook the room. Another quick glance, one minute thirty, not much time left. But she always did enjoy a challenge, it just wasn’t fun if it was easy.
As if in answer to her dark thought, three more replicants came from the hall she had entered from. And two more from each of the other halls could now be heard, fleshy feet thundering forward. She knew it was a bad idea, but what other choice was there? Samus flashed another smile from inside her visor, as she spread her arms wide.
“I appreciate your hospitality. But I must insist that it's time for me to go now”. The guttural roars in response carried no visible intelligence, but she knew better. This time, the super rocket staggered her back as she turned, firing it at the nearby station window. The rocket slammed home just as the beasts exited their respective hallways.
She had already prepared herself, shifting her arm into grappling mode. She nodded to herself, as the sound of cracking glass shifted. The first tinkles of glass giving way soon became a torrential hissing, the sound of the void itself making way. She turned and launched herself forward. Sailing right past a helplessly flailing replicant. She gave it a solid kick to its face and launched herself forward.
A quick grapple and leap, had her flying on a straight course to where her ship was docked. She initiated the remote un-coupling as she floated to it. She heard a hissing behind her, and spun, seeing one replicant, launching another for her. She couldn’t maneuver in the vacuum of space, but she did have this. Her arm shifted once more, back to her trusted power beam, after all, it was a waste to save this charge she had stored.
She shrugged to the creature as the Metroid head positioned where her own visor was seemed to quiver in recognition. The blast sizzled and cracked as the energy wave blasted the replicant back, a viscous blue haze of Metroid dust trailing its body. Her back slammed hard into her ship from her weapons kickback, and she grunted in pain as she rolled over to her hands.
Just as she neared her hatch, she felt it before she heard it. She looked down at her wrist, just as the indicator flashed its first red screen upon zero count. The hatch was opening, but slowly, as she saw the rippling vibration shudder through the station. Just as she slung her feet in, and grasped the lip with two hands, the roar consumed her.
When the ship finally auto-stabilized at a safe distance, she made her way to the cockpit. The wreckage was always shocking, a city-sized pile of metal, forever to dance among the stars as an epitaph to those who died. Her helmet hissed as she removed it, and let it fall to the floor in exhaustion.
“Routine my ass…”, as her computer confirmed her route home.
This track is by far my favorite in SM, and your cover is one of only two that I can't get enough of. I listened to it as I drove westward away from the sunset after seeing Comet Neowise with my own eyes, and I'll never forget the atmosphere this brought to that moment.

The quality of showmanship and music is just incredible. This guy needs much more attention than what he has now.

YESSS so good!! I find that often the best part of remixes is when they keep some of the original instrument tones in the backing tracks to instill the right kind of blend between nostalgia and enjoying the new interpretation, this track NAILS IT! GJ man!

Samus is the baddest lady out there! She is the space mercenary the Galaxy needs when it goes down! She is basically a female version of Doomslayer, absolute badass. I wish there could be a show at some point
If only we could get a new Metroid game that isn't Federation Force. I miss this series so much. Thankfully AM2R just came out. Can't wait to see speed runs of that
My best friend did an off-camera 100% speed run in 1:42. I'm still trying to find everything and plan out a proper route myself. Also, there's a post-credits teaser at the end of Federation Force that possibly hints at a new game for the NX. Hopefully this comes to fruition.

This is one of my favourite tracks from the Metroid series, meaning I'm very picky when listening to covers. Yet this is one of the best covers I've ever heard of this song , so all of my compliments. This is really, really great.
Fantastic job with this one, you do very well with Super Metroid. Always helps when the OST is so incredible already, but you manage to elevate it even more with your style of covering. I hope you eventually cover Super Metroid's Main Theme and/or Crateria Surface!

Not only was that a fantastic cover, but it was also of Upper Brinstar. Everyone and their mother has made a remix of Lower Brinstar (it's a great song so there's good reason for that), so an awesome Upper Brinstar remix is that much sweeter.
