CHRIS!!!!!! The devs definitely went beyond what they needed to with this one. Probably in the top 3 that i've played, so far. I'm pretty sure that I remember the Curse of the Black Pearl being really boring on GBA, now i'm wondering what this would have been like if released on there.
0:25 How long do you think it would take you to untangle all of those cords? ;) A second question: Do you have any idea how many plug-and-play systems you own now? I'm sure you don't keep an up-to-date tally, but it would be interesting to get an official count someday.
I'm picturing myself having to throw the entire rats nest ball of cords and controllers in a dumpster because I wasn't able to untangle them. It's going to make me laugh all week lolol I probably have 20 waiting to be reviewed right now. Not a crazy amount, but more than most people have probably ever seen in person. Once I'm done with the reviews the units usually get donated to a thrift store. I take the batteries out first though, because i'm not a monster.
While there's been a number of Jakks Pacific plug-and-play units I've respected before, they were usually of various older-game compilations (arcade or otherwise). I generally avoided their licensed mini-game collections, and - for the most part - have yet to see proof I ever made mistakes in that regard. This game here - however - seems to genuinely venture boldly beyond what they normally produced, and damn near establishes itself as what could've otherwise been a fully-featured "short game" in its own right. Really the only thing holding something like this back was the wide availability of online distribution, and cellphones not quite yet being a dominant force either. Additionally, that certainly is one of their less hideous controller designs as well (as you said: better to render something they could implement handily, rather make a poor attempt at someone's face).
I wouldn't be surprised if its like an 80/20 split for bad to good licensed games lol I still play a bunch of them. They're kind of my guilty pleasure. Yea, these guys did a lot more than was required of them and made something pretty good. I wonder what they're up to now. I am picturing a goofy boat handheld with terrible face sculpts of pirates on it. Some of the PotC figures that I saw were pretty bad and some were alright. I think there was a few brands making them. The Scooby-Doo controller was done well. It used stickers for the faces of the members which looked good. If this game was re-released on something modern, for a couple bucks and trophy support, I would buy it day 1 and play through it again. Great hearing from you as always! hope everything is going well.
my personal favorite, with the scooby doo coming in 2nd. Love this game. My favorite probably being the duels, but the walking through booby traps is awesome too
The controller designs are sometimes the best part of these plug-and-play systems. This one looks good, and moderately nice to hold/control. I do like laughing at the super ugly and complex ones, though... the ones that really hurt your hands to play (because they're just so damn weird and anti-ergonomic).
Yea, laughing at the ugly and bizarre ones is always fun lol There's one of SpongeBob with a sweatband on that looks pretty derpy and goofy. Can't forget the classic phallic Spider-man design either. Do you remember the ergonomic keyboards from the 00s? I feel like I haven't seen one in a while. The world apparently decided to go back to the regular rectangle style.
@@GettingYourNerdOn Yeah, those ergonomic keyboards sucked. I never liked them to begin with, but I definitely avoided them (because I didn't want to get used to using them). They always seemed like a "fad" to me (which apparently they were). Imagine getting comfortable using an ergonomic keyboard, and then never being able to find anyone who manufactures them anymore because "they went out of style." :) I don't like anything that strays from the very basic (a.k.a. NORMAL) qwerty keyboard. Have you ever heard of the dvorak keyboard? There's an interesting UA-cam video about them called "The Biggest Scandal In Speed Typing History." That whole story/fraud revolves around the remodeled dvorak design. If you've got time to burn, give that vid a watch.
literally the best game ever I still remember playing this when I was like 8
i remember playing it when i was like 4
and im so sad because i dont know what happened to it so i assume it must of broke
This game looks like a game boy advanced game. Looks pretty awesome for a plug and play.

This one looks good. Cool design on the joystick too.
