I have the 8 yr cask strength Reserve it’s pretty good I get this cocoa note in it I enjoy but it’s expensive $79 I’ve been trying to find a similar profile at a cheaper price.
I had a pour of the regular Sagamore with my wife at a bar in New Hope and liked it. This past weekend my friend gifted me a bottle of the Cask Strength for my birthday. Big thumbs up. Four of us shared a good chunk of it and I’m very happy to have it as a cask strength, delicious rye. Great neat , nice on ice, and I get a really nice chocolate, or mocha note on it.
As a Baltimorean I am really delighted that you have focused on Sagamore Spirits. They have really revived the great tradition of Maryland Rye whiskeys. I have learned and continue to learn so much from you both- thank you.
I was recently invited to the Sagamore Farm, and Distillery. I drank from the spring, pet the horses, and tasted reserves and more. The Double Oak is in fact, my favorite.
I did a tour a few months ago and i believe the 51Rye part is there juice . On, my cask strength it says distilled in Indiana and Maryland . Beautiful distillery if you every in the area
SAGAMORE! Love this brand. So many awesome bottles. Underrated and not really talked about in the whiskey bourbon world. I have the BNB as well. Double oak is GREAT with a cigar. Great video guys 👌🏼
I agree, the Sagamore Spirt is a beginner’s rye BUT, I consider myself an experienced rye drinker yet I’ve found a very good use of that particular Sagamore rye. My wife & I are scratch cooks and I like to drink something neat while I’m preparing & cooking. This lower proof rye fits that bill perfectly for me while handling knives and reading recipes. I save the higher proof pours for when I’m not cooking or for after dinner in front of the fireplace!!

I live somewhat local to the Sagamore Distillery and visited today.... I noticed that their standard small batch said 93 proof on the bottle and one that they had in a display case said 83 proof. I asked one of the employees there if they offered both proofs and I was told that they have shifted to all of the small batch versions being 93 proof instead of the 83.... he said the 83 proof is probably still being sold in liqours stores until inventory is gone. If you can find the new 93 proof, you should do a comparison.... I loved the taste of the 93 proof today and that double oak is fantastic. Also, the small batch is now completely sourced from MD. Bottle says distilled and Bottled in Baltimore, MD.... the double oak says distilled in MD & Indiana.
First date with SS -- Got a Barrel Select picked by my local purveyor at 55 abv, oh so good. Barrel Select is a blend of 1 selected 95/5 barrel and a sagamore selected 51 rye. It is so good.
Really glad you were able to give them a try. They're in my backyard and they have some great releases. They just released their sherry finished which is awesome. They also have cool distillery exclusives, such as the mead barrel finished rye they have at the distillery right now.
Sagamore Double hits the spot for me way more than OF 1910 and Woodford Double...one of my favorite bottles coming from a guy who doesn't drink a lot of rye
So true about the beginners Sagemore my friend who I’ve been trying to get him into more bourbons or ryes had that first sagemore and called me talking about how smooth it was. So that’s definitely a good starter for the beginner.
I have been obsessed with Sagamore since I found their rum cask finished bottle earlier this year at Costco. I believe its 98 proof. 60$ at Costco. I believe their Double Oaked was 50$ at Costco here in Colorado.
One of my favorite distilleries over the last 2 years. I haven't had anything bad from them yet, which is saying a lot. That DO is easily best DO of any I've ever had. I am finding I like the DO ryes over the DO bourbons (personal choice). Their rum and sherry finished bottles are also great. Glad to see you guys do this video.
I live in Pasadena, MD just about 45 minutes (in city traffic) south of the distillery. It's a great place to visit, take the tour and taste what's on offer, and, of course, by a bottle or two...or three. I keep at least to bottles on my bar. Like you, I love the Double Oak; I also really like the Cask Strength very much. I'm happy to report that Sagamore Spirit is now distilling everything at their distillery on the Baltimore waterfront. You can also get some excellent seafood and crab cakes jus a 5-minute walk from the distillery.
Tried Sagamore at a store doing samplings, tried the flagship and the double oaked. First time I ever bought a bottle from a sampling, love the double oaked.
Just ran across your Sagamore breakdown recently and it prompted me to get my own bottle of the double oaked. You were right - it is delicious! Reminds me of a Rye version of Woodford Reserved Double Oaked.

Fun fact: Sagamore was, up until recently, owned by the owner of Under Armour. Opinions of the man aside, Sagamore Rye merch is top notch. Specifically the shirts. They have a rye aged in cider barrels right now that is outstanding. They were also just purchased by the company that makes disarono and amaretto. So that will be interesting.
The 83 proof is because I-83 runs into Baltimore and is on the route from their farm to the distillery. A bit gimmicky but also cute and fun. Can’t wait to try their stuff.
Total Wine in north DE seems really heavy into Sagamore. Pretty much their whole line is there every time I visit and they usually have at least 1 (and often more) store picks too.
Highly recommend taking a tour of the distillery if you're ever in the Baltimore area. Was a blast and they have a ton of restaurants/bars on their campus

We actually have not done a Penelope lineup before just highlighted a bottle or two in a list. Would love to do it at some point but we legitimately do not get it in my area. We shop for it on trips so hope we can do it soon!
@@slbdrinks I must have seen it on another channel then. I live in Louisville Ky so I'll keep an eye out for their various bourbons. A friend named Penelope had to drive to different stores to acquire the 4 different four-grain bottles but was successful.
I've got a bottle of the cask strength. Its a slow sipper because of the proof point. I've got bottle from a small Montana Distillery I like more, but it isn't bad.
Sagamore did do a Port finish several years ago. It was a huge hit locally. So much so that I'm shocked they've yet to do it again. They're on their 3rd cognac finish already, lol.
It's a good (gulp, if wildly overpriced) Rye. I was first introduced to their product at the Next Whiskey Bar at the Watergate Hotel. They served me a Manhattan with the Cask Strength, and I thought it was absolutely fabulous. Setting aside anything about the sourcing - most rye is from MGP - I thought the product was good, but have a hard time justifying the money spent.
I've only tasted a sample of the tequila finished and the Sagamore DO but both are great. I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything they release but I never see Sagamore around my local area. I will say the double oaked was amazingly delicious.
The Double Oaked, Cask Strength and Sherry Cask finish are fantastic. Only one I wasn't wild about was the Rum Cask finish. Changed my opinion of MGP sourced whiskey.
I’m about 20 minutes from the distillery. If y’all ever get to Baltimore for a visit to the distillery let me know. I’ve found the Sagamore cask strength to be fantastic and it blends great with some bourbons like 1792 full proof for a higher proof bour-rye
Have you guys tried any of Middle West Spirits products? I really like rye whiskey and spicy bourbon and I see they offer a straight rye dark pumpernickel whiskey. I've loved pumpernickel rye bread since I was a kid so this not only sounds unique, but delicious! I was hoping you or some of your followers might have tried this product. I can't find it locally and may have to purchase it online and have it shipped... Would like to get some opinions before going that route. It's 96 proof and under $50 on their site. I love your channel and you have quickly become the only whiskey channel I watch anymore. Thank you and keep up the awesome work!

I've got a bottle of the Double Oak, and it's great. I've had several bottles of the cask strength, it's one of my favorites, very rich. I've also had a 6yo single barrel store pick that was quite good too. Haven't come across the BIB yet.

I love their Double Oak too. The distillery is great to visit and taste all their great ryes. They have a Manhattan Finish Rye Whiskey that is pretty great as well.
YESS!, the double oak is the first time i pulled out a cocoa/mocha note.... i love that one and the Cask Strength, but the best one i have is the Barrel Select Cask Strength... its even better that the reg cask strgth

Solid review. I've had the double oaked (based on your recommendation in a different video) and it is delicious. Just picked up their base Rye and the sherry finished rye (106 proof). I was surprised how good the base version is. Very flavorful. But the sherry finish is really fantastic. Even better thant he double oak in my opinion, but not by much. Overall, Sagamore Spirit has an excellent lineup of Ryes. Need to pick up the cask strength. Again, great review. Thanks!

I've got a bottle of the Double Oak, and it's great. I've had several bottles of the cask strength, it's one of my favorites, very rich. I've also had a 6yo single barrel store pick that was quite good too. Haven't come across the BIB yet.

I love their Double Oak too. The distillery is great to visit and taste all their great ryes. They have a Manhattan Finish Rye Whiskey that is pretty great as well.
I need to visit their at some point!

YESS!, the double oak is the first time i pulled out a cocoa/mocha note.... i love that one and the Cask Strength, but the best one i have is the Barrel Select Cask Strength... its even better that the reg cask strgth

The mezcal finish is one of favorite drinks I've had. They don't have many left so if ya can I would recommend it!

Solid review. I've had the double oaked (based on your recommendation in a different video) and it is delicious. Just picked up their base Rye and the sherry finished rye (106 proof). I was surprised how good the base version is. Very flavorful. But the sherry finish is really fantastic. Even better thant he double oak in my opinion, but not by much. Overall, Sagamore Spirit has an excellent lineup of Ryes. Need to pick up the cask strength.
