I grew up in the Hendrix era. I always thought he was the best ever. But, some of that opinion has to do with creativity. He did things no one had ever seen. That being said, I don’t really think he could play at the level of this video. Gary Moore was stunningly good. There’s a lot of great players, but a very few at this level. Can’t really think who they are though

Gary Moore is a brilliant architect. Every note serves a purpose. The combination of technical excellence and restraint is breathtaking. But that tone -- as has been mentioned here, it's in the fingers and his soul. Thank goodness this performance was preserved on film.
That guy has/had one of the best vibratos, both multifinger and single finger I've seen. And his string bends are killer too! Then he can give you a fast run of notes and continue the hot emotion of the blues. Total package man!! I give it a 10

Originally written bt Elmore James in 1959, it has since been recorded by Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and of course this wonderful version by the late great Gary Moore. No doubt it has also been performed by other blues players without being recorded. It is such a classic blues song.
It's amazing how you can see that the sound that comes out of that guitar is the oral/sound of the expression on his face. It seems that the guitar cries and shouts what he wants to express. The man was an absolute guitar genius.

Of all the rest Gary Moore is the best followed by Stevie Ray Vaughn. It doesn't get any better than this. We all are so fortunate to have had Gary in our lives. His middle name should be PASSION. Breathtaking !The reason he wasn't well known at least here in the States is he never came here.

I love the facial expressions...so in tune with the music! The connection of Gary, his guitar, and the music is so amazing...you can just feel it! The only people that don't feel the connection are the dead.

Incredible, was fortunate to get a pick from academy in Glasgow the last time I seen him. My son also has the same birthday as Gary. Privileged to have seen Gary play numerous times.
I have to agree. I'm not a kid today, and I'm primarily listening to black blues. But nothing else had caused such a cathartic effect. For a long time, though, I looked at Gary with suspicious eyes as someone who later called for the blues train. But seeing these late shots is one of the biggest. Not as a composer, but as a performer.
What gets me is that Clapton, Page and Blackmore had all the publicity with half the talent of Gary. The people that Gary played with should be shouting from the rooftops (even today!) about his fantastic instinctive blues prowess. Also people at the top of the blues and rock music genre should be highlighting his music.
Blackmore is up there with Gary as being extremely underrated. Both of them didn't get even half the recognition that Page, Clapton and others got which is a shame because I think Ritchie and Gary are better than both of them.
The success of cream no doubt elevated clapton , but this guy is on another level altogether , i think peter greene if he had not eaten off the tree of timothy leary , would be up there as well .

Funny you say that, I bought an old Marshall JCM800 and a Tube screamer years ago after hearing Gary do Hendrix, that was to me the perfect Guitar tone. The first time I turned my amp on when I got home it gave me a fright it was so loud even at the lowest level which is like less than 1 on the Master volume. Even so things were falling off the shelves, the dog and cat ran outside and the baby started crying. Guys like Gary, Pete Townshend and Hendrix back in the 60s and 70s used amps that didn't have a master volume so the amps they learned on were crushingly loud. I feel for my neighbours back then hearing me practice. 😬 Gary Moore makes it look easy. RIP Champ
@@peteyoung7665 I had to go back and watch it again, so that was bloody interesting. I didn't think anyone used the middle pickup mainly just the other 2 like on a Telly. Plus those amps sound so much better dialled in like he does, those amp are just breaking up and then he uses his volume knob and amazing skills to mute all the other strings all while the amp is almost catching fire. Sounds amazing, my favourite player for sure.
Yeah, after watching this I had to go and watch him play Red House at the Fender Anniversary, stun the crowd, say thank you very much and just walk off. Epic.
He was one with his guitar, as a part of his body he could do anything when he expressed a feeling through this instrument. Technically a master of all styles he could just let the emotions come out in a way a very few other guitarists ever could. Maybe bad english, sorry for that, but the love and appreciation I have for this musician or magician if you will is beyond everything....wow, always cry when I'm listening to him, RIP Great man!❤️

Gary is my top for sure and SRV is not far behind. I found another great player who is from South Africa. His name is Dan Patlansky. Dan was very much influenced by SRV and Hendrix. Enjoy!

We have lost so many of the best players now, but I am sure there are many others that have been inspired by them and there will be more after that. Gary was amazing....but he will live on but it will take an amazing player to beat him. Joe Bonamassa is another amazing player who just gets better just when you think he can't he does! RIP GM you will never be forgotten.
Everyone forgets Frank Marino...great voice, and from him I have heard everything from the sweetest touch blues to absolute ripping runs...kinda of like what you just watched here.

One of the top ten of all time IMO. Back in the day Yngwie Malmsteen had all the speed and perfection when playing his neo-classical metal but he never came remotely close to the level of passion that Gary put into his playing. They say Robert J sold his soul to the devil to be a better guitar player, in which case Gary must have been blessed by all the Archangels.

Gary Moore is a player that I listen to when I need inspiration to practice my guitar playing. Every time I hear him, it doesn’t take long until I’m grabbing a guitar. I really like this clip because it’s cool to see and hear him rippin on a Strat. Sort of proves my belief that a player’s tone comes from his hands.
Gray Otis ... guitar pickups, string gauge, picking technique, amp setup, and effects rig, all matter more than the actual guitar. If I reroute the body cavity of my stray and put in a couple of vintage Gibson humbuckers and record it, I bet nobody would guess that I am playing a “Strat.” But the “tone wood” for electric guitars arguments are nothing if not entertaining

Gary and SRV were the epitome of " ferocious blues". There may be imitators and replicators but this is the real deal.

Funny you say that, I bought an old Marshall JCM800 and a Tube screamer years ago after hearing Gary do Hendrix, that was to me the perfect Guitar tone. The first time I turned my amp on when I got home it gave me a fright it was so loud even at the lowest level which is like less than 1 on the Master volume. Even so things were falling off the shelves, the dog and cat ran outside and the baby started crying. Guys like Gary, Pete Townshend and Hendrix back in the 60s and 70s used amps that didn't have a master volume so the amps they learned on were crushingly loud. I feel for my neighbours back then hearing me practice. 😬 Gary Moore makes it look easy. RIP Champ
@@peteyoung7665 I had to go back and watch it again, so that was bloody interesting. I didn't think anyone used the middle pickup mainly just the other 2 like on a Telly. Plus those amps sound so much better dialled in like he does, those amp are just breaking up and then he uses his volume knob and amazing skills to mute all the other strings all while the amp is almost catching fire. Sounds amazing, my favourite player for sure.

Gary was about as real you as anyone could get! Down to earth and a nice guy. Very humble, played from his heart. Miss him terribly RIP

Yeah, after watching this I had to go and watch him play Red House at the Fender Anniversary, stun the crowd, say thank you very much and just walk off. Epic.
He was one with his guitar, as a part of his body he could do anything when he expressed a feeling through this instrument. Technically a master of all styles he could just let the emotions come out in a way a very few other guitarists ever could. Maybe bad english, sorry for that, but the love and appreciation I have for this musician or magician if you will is beyond everything....wow, always cry when I'm listening to him, RIP Great man!❤️

Gary is my top for sure and SRV is not far behind. I found another great player who is from South Africa. His name is Dan Patlansky. Dan was very much influenced by SRV and Hendrix. Enjoy!

We have lost so many of the best players now, but I am sure there are many others that have been inspired by them and there will be more after that. Gary was amazing....but he will live on but it will take an amazing player to beat him. Joe Bonamassa is another amazing player who just gets better just when you think he can't he does! RIP GM you will never be forgotten.

Everyone forgets Frank Marino...great voice, and from him I have heard everything from the sweetest touch blues to absolute ripping runs...kinda of like what you just watched here.
It doesn't get any better than this. Drums, Bass, Hammond Organ and a man whose soul poured out of his guitar and who had the talent and ability to invent new licks as he's playing the song.
He was simply the best electric guitar live performer by a country mile without pier! a masterclass every time he was on stage! And for all his otherworldly, remarkable skills & talents he managed to remain a very private & humble man! Greatly missed RIP

One of the top ten of all time IMO. Back in the day Yngwie Malmsteen had all the speed and perfection when playing his neo-classical metal but he never came remotely close to the level of passion that Gary put into his playing. They say Robert J sold his soul to the devil to be a better guitar player, in which case Gary must have been blessed by all the Archangels.

The only time when I witnessed EC acknowledging Gary was when he played an acoustic version of 'Still Got the Blues' in tribute to Gary after Gary had died.

Gary Moore is a player that I listen to when I need inspiration to practice my guitar playing. Every time I hear him, it doesn’t take long until I’m grabbing a guitar.
I really like this clip because it’s cool to see and hear him rippin on a Strat. Sort of proves my belief that a player’s tone comes from his hands.
Gray Otis ... guitar pickups, string gauge, picking technique, amp setup, and effects rig, all matter more than the actual guitar. If I reroute the body cavity of my stray and put in a couple of vintage Gibson humbuckers and record it, I bet nobody would guess that I am playing a “Strat.”

I totally agree....no-one played with more melodic content and soul..respect to SRV and Hendrix of course but Moore outplayed both reaching across the field...his Celtic genious for melody and his soulful crying and moaning.
