Great video Keith! Thanks for taking the time to keep us all up to date on all the new stuff. It all comes down to money and control and the powers that be are never full!
Informative Video... I just heard a few days ago that Dodge will have 100% of their products using the Gateway protocol by 2020. So here is a suggestion for the consumers... negotiate a lifetime warranty with dodge when you buy the thing... In 2008 when they nearly went belly up I bought a new dodge Ram 1500... I got to brow beating the Salesman about what would happen if dodge went broke - my question was who would stand behind the warranty for the truck... So the answer came from the upstairs office to sell me a bumper to bumper lifetime warranty with a $100.00 deductible. I gave $2500.00 for the warranty. The deal was that I had one year to purchase the warranty if I did not drive over 12K miles.... On the last day I purchased the warranty when I found out that the TIPM modules were crap and they cost over $1000.00. And here it is 2019 and I have yet to spend a dime on this truck except for tires... If the consumers forced these manufactures into these types of contracts then the manufactures will have to eat their bad engineering for a long time instead of using the public at large as some kind of paying beta vehicle testing group...
Good video Keith, Procsi is more a term used on the Atlantis bus. The Powernet bus only uses build configuration....keep in mind the rfh hub has the back up copy of the build config, when you update the bcm build config you should also consider unlocking the rfh and updating its build config as well.
… Autel has a special connector for these. you remove the gateway module and connect their connector to the gateway module connector and then the autel pod to the other half of the connector. Anything that doesent work you can data log and Autel will make Beta versions for you until its fixed. Its all good. Autel scan tool is a little slow but has more OE function than any other scanner iv seen for "newer" vehicle. I work for a rental car company, we have all of the OE scan tools / subscriptions so I get to compare the functions all the time. I also have a Snap-On scanner. it is faster and more user-friendly but cant talk to many modules such as camaro convertible top modules. They JUST got ADAS coverage for Nissans, and even modules it can talk to lack functionality tests and resets that autel can do. Just my experience so far.
Great video keith. I know on the older models they do the steering angle reset through the Abs initialization procedure and has you do exactly what you mentioned to the left all the way then to the right all the way and back to center. On this one it appears they may have automated that which is nice.
The mileage will blink if a CUSW (compact US wide) vehicle has lost alignment. It’s a real quick easy check and the symptoms are goofy. Hard start, no start, parking brake won’t release and rotary shifter inop. Great video Keith!
Keith u really make my head spin with all this information. But thank u for the insight. Another one added to the must have list. Just checked with Carlos from aeswave and that chrysler set up is not cheap.

I heard about this from the high performance side of things - guys are pissed that they bought a 2018 or '19, and can't do ANY electronic tuning whatsoever. Can't say I'm surprised, the way automakers are these days. What I am surprised about, is that GM didn't do this FIRST. I'm sure it's coming, though. I wouldn't doubt in the next 20 years manufacturers are going to go "John Deere" on repair shops, and say, "WE own this data, and ONLY WE can access it". A little money to the right corrupt politician and the rest is history - Right to Repair repealed. Has a communist ring to it ... but I digress. Great video as always, Keith! I just hope by the time I see one of these in my shop (3-5 years? 😂) that I'm still able to access this video. 😊
For FIAT based Chrysler models MultiECUScan is pretty good, they haven't cracked the SGW issue yet but are suggesting connecting directly to the CAN lines
@@NewLevelAuto I use the original version via an OBD-Link adapter and VW KKL USB adapter, only down side is that it requires a number of different adapters but you do with an OBD-II break out box. For in-depth coverage of Fiat and Alfa-Romeo nothing seems to beat it.
1st....great video.....2nd......it's awesome that you show what's needed to work on 2018 vehicles (FCA in particular)......3rd......this is gonna price some "mechanics" out of the market.....4th.......this is the world we live in so invest in yourself or STOP WORKING ON VEHICLES UNLESS YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TOOLS!......Its only gonna get worse with more computers, subscriptions, modules & electronic equipment to fix or repair with software vs hardware.
@@burtpilon1735 I seriously agree that training is severely needed in this industry. I still believe in tools (labscope, OEM tools, aftermarket scanners, specialist equipment......etc) & training, together, are a necessity. Example......keys & locks......without each other they are useless😆
Great info. I think the security gateway module is a joke honestly. Right to repair vs. Security. There's loopholes to everything. Anyway, thanks for sharing bud
Do you happen to know if Dodge Ram uses this secure gateway module? I was thinking of getting a newer 2500 or 3500. I do my own work and I’d prefer to not deal with this feature.
So, are we buying and owning a car it or just renting something that HAS to go back to the dealers? Allow a little time and someone will have another Box to decode at a further cost. Sorry but the older cars work just as well even when we had to adjust the temperature and seating position manually.
