I'm a denizen of the Mojave Desert in the south-west united States, and have found a mesh jacket (with a removable liner) to be indispensable. Year-round thirty degree daily temperature swings make it difficult to find just the right jacket for use six months out of the year in this environment. In my experience, a removable thermal liner is needed in the mornings for all but maybe four weeks in the peak of the summer season. The liner then gets rolled-up and stored in my panier for my afternoon commute home. I've been using an inexpensive Vance jacket that has served me adequately for the last year, but it's now becoming apparent where the company cut corners to meet a lower price point (zippers and snaps). While quality motorcycle apparel is expensive, I've learned that "buy once cry once" is a better option than cycling through numerous low budget options. These reviews are very much appreciated, and extremely helpful for consumers looking to get the right gear the first time (or in my case, the second or third time). Thank you for your efforts, and please keep the reviews coming!
I'm purchasing a Knox Urbane Pro Mk2 mesh motorcycle shirt, made to be worn over a T shirt, with any added protection from wind, rain and cold added over the protective abrasion resistant mesh shirt. Rather than using a liner, I think I'll add a lightweight waterproof but vapor permeable shell in the large rear pocket that I can wear over the shirt to block the wind when it's a bit cooler, with the ability to add a pile jacket and/or my one piece rain suit over that. For motorcycle camping, the waterproof shell and pile jacket can also be worn around camp for a very flexible solution with minimal weight and volume.
Another great review Chris. I bought the Klim Marrakesh, Zephyr and Scott Ergo PRO system last year on your recommendation and I have to say you were spot on. Just finished a 2500 mile trip from South of England to the Scottish Highlands/NC500 and I found it the perfect combination. 👌👌
Hey great vid! What or why is MotoLegens not talking about Knox Armour? Which is basically the inventor of mesh clothing and layering other garments for ones needs?
When we finally get to travel again, I would love to visit your shop. Wish we had such an amazing shop in Canada. I think you cover everything anyone could ask. Cheers!
Out here in India mesh jackets are a necessity, last year while riding to Ladakh from South India the temperature hit +46 degrees C in North India and -10 degrees C in the Himalayas. Therefore layering is the only logical system that works here. I wore thermal inners with my mesh jacket on top which did the job perfectly
come to Texas and ride in temperatures of 37-40 degrees C durring prime riding season, mesh becomes a requirement if you want any protection, love the reviews
I am in the Southwest USA (New Mexico) where it can get brutally hot. Wearing a mesh jacket is a must, as it can keep you cooler than not wearing a jacket at all. I have several jackets but just picked up the Pilot Direct Air v3 on sale for $59 USD from Lee Parks Designs. I believe this jacket retails at $180 USD or so. I am very happy with this jacket and it affords much protection with many features.
It was between the Klim and Rukka for me when deciding last year, being able to zip into my jeans with the loop through belt and the better armour included with the rukka swayed it for me. The air flow is is just next level compared to standard mesh jackets and well worth the extra cost
Been riding in the UK for more than 40 years and I often need a mesh jacket for commuting when temp is above 27 degrees, especially if I have to then travel further on foot, don't want to carry or wear my leather thanks
Very informative thanks, I’m looking for a jacket to provide elbow and shoulder protection to wear either over or under Tech air vest………. There is a need for such a garment it seems
Great reviews Chris, I have the Marrakesh, a great jacket, but not a massive fan of the length , it’s about two inches to long in the styling, but functionally great. PS can’t you afford a better looking/built model?😄
I like this new trend of layering over mesh jackets. I will try it for this summer tour: 1st layer shirt, Macna or Difi 2part suit mesh with armour, Alpinestar windproof softshell , Spidi H2Out jacket with armour taken out and Dane Byge breathable waterproof laminate 2part suit in case of extreme elements.
Why are they making all the hot weather jackets black & gray? I get that Millennials are moody, but they might be happier if they wore something that reflected a little of that solar energy!
As ever, it’s about road grime and dirt. Light coloured gear doesn’t stay light in colour for long, especially if you commute into town throughout the summer. CP
I got myself the Belstaff Temple a couple of days ago. I agree to all points made: it's a good looking jacket, airy and light. But the price is very difficult to justify. I would not have bought the jacket if I didn't coincidentally have the correct D3O back protector. At home I realized that the armour is not D3O like in my Belstaff Crosby. At the end I took the D3O elbow and shoulder protectors from a cheap Richa jacket and put them in the Temple.
Hi, so what is the layer sequence for cold wither , from Bottom : Teton Merino , Zephyr , Maverick then marrakesh Or Teton Merino , Maverick , Zephyr then marrakesh ? Please answer my question
Discovered your Channel today, you are a legend, so much expertise. Is there away to buy my Equipment from you Shop, I am from Germany. I think That means taxes now with brexit right?
How about taking the cheapest meshjacket, down jacket and rainjacket... and you have got three layers for any situation for about 300£ My macna mesh jacket for about 100£ flows more air than the Rukka... I'm sure
It's worth mentioning that as the earth plumits toward global warming/destruction, when we say "air-flow" we're not talking about COOL airflow. Where I live, we've been experiencing up to 112 and even 115 degree temps. Meaning, the air that flow through our mesh jackets (regardless of the brand) is also 112 or 115 degrees HOT (I'd argue "wind chill" factors are negligible after 100 degrees). So in reality, the temperature one feels in those conditions are the same, whether wearing a t-shirt or an expensive Mesh Jacket. Which is to say, the ONLY thing that matters from one mesh jacket to the next is PROTECTION the offer in in a fall. None of them are going to be COOLER in triple digit temperatures than the other--regardless of price. So, question is: which would you chose to spend eternity in HELL (on a moped)?
I went, spent an hour, didn't buy that day, CBT end of the month, best service, and I will be back to buy the Klim Marrakesh, I will also buy the Stadler full kit once able to ride over 125. 53 year old fat boy!
Omg this guy is under the assumption everyone is void of any knowledge whatsoever, great reviews if that’s you, information overload, in fact he could be my dad, if you ask him the time, he would tell you how to build Big Ben.
Another very detailed but verbose video on jackets that I’m stylistically opposed to. The Belstaff jacket is overrated and terribly unappealing. Merlin make a very attractive, functional option with D30 armor at a price anyone can afford. Surprised you didn’t include this British brand in your offerings.
Not if you’re English. Can’t help it if these guys get it wrong. Think Tim, sim, dim, whim and brim. Contrast that with time, slime, dime and nine. You can’t just make up the way you want to pronounce a word. If you want “i” in a case like this to be pronounced as an open syllable then the following consonant should be followed by a vowel. Actually, ‘climb’ is an interesting case, as the b is silent and so serves as a vowel.
Rick Gullett Rick, it’s not an accent. It is a phonetic device; and as such not designed for altering the way words are pronounced. Phonetic devices exist to explain how words are pronounced. In English Klim should be pronounced like slim. But being Americans, these guys choose arbitrarily to pronounce the word the way they want to. But then again these guys can’t properly pronounce a word as simple as tomato, whilst aluminium confuses them totally. CP.

Dan, you’re talking nonsense. I know the Klim boys really well. There is no Klim surname involved here. I know how they came up with the name. I know why they came up with the name. Still doesn’t mean they are pronouncing it right. In fact, they use a phonetic device over the “i”, which is their excuse for pronouncing the word differently to the way it should be. Cordura AFT exists only on a single Jacket or?
Please tell me, in this video, the Helstons Modelo jacket is a HLS307 or HLS306 model?

How about sourcing a dyneema shirt/jacket for high speed use underneath?
Do you have a top cap list? Looking for a nice page boy style ;)

Really you can do either. We prefer Zephyr under Maverick only because if you then wear Zephyr on its own the size is better.
Would you still recommend the Scott shell over the Richa Rain Flare for your 4 piece system?
Ross, no we wouldn’t. The Richa is a waterproof. The Scott does the same job. Wearing both would be OTT and a tad uncomfortable. CP
@@Motolegends sorry I didn’t mean “over”, I meant “instead of”!
Agree. Klim is the way forward and I now carry a lightweight down and Scott waterproof I got from you.
Guys are these jackets a little too short or is it just me? I think cold air will pass in the belly area because they are too short.
Very honest review Sir.

Agree with you I like the look of the Furygan but I would opt for the Helstons Modelo from a protection point of view
That Rukka is very neat, I’d but it if it didn’t have that giant billboard with the R and a Cordura ad on it
What about the Klim Baja S4?! It's, in my view, the best mesh jacket you stock!

Do one for perforated leather.
Never worn leathers in the summer on a hot sportsbike then.
