An adapted robot assists with situational awareness

  • Lincoln Laboratory researchers brought "Spot," a Boston Dynamics robot, aboard a Coast Guard response cutter to test its ability to navigate complex environments and identify hazardous conditions. Researchers in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Software Architectures and Algorithms Group are working to adapt Spot with AI algorithms that could, for instance, allow Spot to scout out a dangerous area and check for hazards before military personnel enter the space.
