Jacko_ It played on my left headphone so I seriously thought for a second it was someone opening their car outside (there's a car with a slightly similar unlock beep). Y u do this linus.
One of the best editorials or reviews I've seen yet about the 3DR Solo. I was so impressed I went out and bought one with the gimbal and am very happy I did! I don't have a lot of time flying it yet but it is very easy to operate. One of your good points was to listen and watch the Solo school video before I had operated the unit. I think the price of the unit makes one make sure they know what they are doing before just throwing it up in the air! Again I thank you for this video and would like to see you do another review with the gimbal. Thank you, Robbie.
Have you guys tried the DJI Phantom 2/3 ? And if so, how does it compare ? And on that stabilazation note, you *need* a gimbal for stable video. And is there an option to get retractable legs ? It's extremely needed when you mount the gimbal
I would love for you to review the DJI Inspire 1. I'm seriously in love what that thing and the camera on it is just fantastic! 4K camera on a gimbal that shoots at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps and it gives no fisheye effect! I can't stand GoPros cause of the fisheye effect they bring. I'm considering purchasing it next year. But it do however cost a bit.
Linus SHOULD do a Dji Phantom 3 Professional review which is a REALLY good competitor to the Solo drone. To name some of the Phantom 3 features, it comes with a pre-installed gimbal, a high quality 4K camera without the fish eye effect and transmits live footage from the camera up 1,2km (or even 3-7km) from the controller. Plus, its available in most locations, including in Sweden, were the Solo apparently is not yet available. The Phantom 3 is at least as cool and advanced as the Solo. Due to its competitive features and price it should be reviewed as well.
In my opinion, the phantom 3 pro is still better. 1259 for the pro version with gimbal and 4k camera. 23 minutes of flight time, in general it's kinda better. If the 3DR guys could add more and shine more some details on this drone, it could be a real phantom competitor.
These RTF Quadcopters are like prebuilt computer. You can built it yourself, its not difficult, it's cheaper and you can upgrade and modify parts down to line like in a computer. So Linus, do a collab with FliteTest and build yourself a quadcopter(Not a Drone, it's not a fucking drone). Maybe another ChannelSuperFun video?
Will a Sony Action Camera work with the livefeed to the controller? Wondering if that's a temporary solution for stabilization while waiting for the gimbal to come out.
alcowherd7 Understanding the manufacturing processes and estimating the materials cost, combined with the cost of the control program, it's more than just expensive. There are aftermarket options that are FAR cheaper for D.I.Y. drone setups that make this drone far more expensive than need be for all but people who need it's automated flight functions.
hellcat1988 Yeah understandable, but if you are starting up contracting out this drone for cinematography, or the likes, you dont want some DIY solution that could fail at anytime, with absolutely no tech support or warranties for the entire build. On the flip side, a hobbyist could easily pay less for almost the same set up, with just a lack off all it's fancy flight functions
alcowherd7 The gap is getting less and less every day though. There are D.I.Y. open source automated flight programs in development and I'm sure there are already some on the market. Charging $1K for a drone and camera system these days is a joke when you can get something comparable for $400 or less depending on your needs. It wasn't more than 10 years ago that you could expect to spend that on a 3d printer, but now they can be had for less than $200. There are also automated flight programs in cheap R.C. aircraft that can take off, land, and recover from a stall event all on their own. I don't have a drone myself, but I can bet that it won't be long before something better than this drone, for far cheaper, with more options for additions at better prices will catch my interest and make this look like the overpriced toy it is.
alcowherd7 no warranty on this model for any commercial use. And no real commercial use would accept fisheye anyway...and, of course, no gimbal yet so we don't even know about how that is going to work out.
As I know you know Linus, gimbal is a must to film with a multirotor. And I have a question: real controller or tablet for multirotors and/or planes? Persionaly I'm all out for real controllers when it comes to this and am offended when someone who can't fly with other that the latest and greatest tablet on the market and a gps path says I can't fly and that i don't know the right way to fly multirotors. I had a small multirotor before I had to return it to my friend and have started with some flips from time to time. Now i'm back to my fixed pitch helicopter and a car or two. Would be happy to hear your response and keep up the good work.
Linus can you do a special episode on cameras? I recently got a go pro to film a sewing blog but I want to be another camera to film blogs and trips to see embroidery pieces so I need something that can pick up pretty good detail. Thanks
There's alot to like about this drone, but, with the 360 degree gimble on it for the go pro, how do the landing gear not get in the way of shots you might take when you rotate the camera to the side? For that reason, I'm leaning more toward the model that pulls it's landing gear up after takeoff, out of the way of the camera.
W. James Hamel Solo’s gimbal and computers communicate with the autopilot in real time so that Solo always knows which direction you’re pointing the camera and can rotate accordingly. Basically, panning the camera is like panning the whole copter-Solo automatically adjusts to keep the legs out of the shot. It’s essentially a virtual 360-degree gimbal, without the extra cost and mechanical points of failure for retractable legs.
3D Robotics in order to accomplish that (Keeping the legs out of the shot), the camera would have to be mounted lower than the legs, which would make landing it (on the legs) impossible. I understand the ability to keep the legs out of the shot if the lens is angled downward 45 degrees or so, but what if the drone is flying level with that which you want to shoot and that shot is parallel to the legs? Or are you saying that the camera would never point in the direction of the legs and the drone would always rotate fore and aft to keep the legs out of the shot?
"I'm feeling like a star, you can't stop my shine, I'm loving cloud nine, my head's in the sky, I'm Solo, I'm riding Solo, I'm riding Solo, I'm riding Solo, Solo." Sums up this drone.
I have a 350 QX3, outside of the slight fisheye effect, the camera is far better than a gopro without a gimbal. Now, if you have the gimbal for the gopro, that would be hard to be in any fashion.
AFTER the Cost of the 3DR solo 4K gopro and gimbal. You could almost have a inspire 1 which destroys this or for about 1000$ less you could get a phantom 3 which may not be as good but not 1000$ better
These kind of prebuilt drones are alright but for cheaper (5-600) you could build a much larger hexacopter or quadcopter from DJI that can fly miles away and hundreds of feet up.
this may be a stupid question, but in my mobo readout software, my VRM is always at 50 C (i have a gtx 970) is the VRM the grapohics card's chips, or do i understand it incorrectly?
Mcsteven redulla Here’s the pitch on the technology Solo has that no other consumer drone does: Wireless HD downlink from GoPro® to iOS or Android from half a mile-no other drone does that. Exclusive and industry-first Smart Shots for one-touch, one-take easy aerial cinema: Cable cam, Orbit, Follow and Selfie. It can follow you. It goes 55 mph. Exclusive GoPro access for in-flight camera control and charging, including stop and start recording in flight. Pixhawk 2 next-gen autopilot - with redundancy for your redundancy. Industry leading customer support with full flyaway replacement and 30-day money-back guarantee. Gimbal presets with adjustable auto tilt control and adjustable speed control. One-touch emergency airbrake. Open gimbal bay for us or third parties to add new cameras and sensors to Solo’s carrying capacity. Open accessory bay for just about any other type of drone tech innovation you can think of, from us or others.
Can you do a review on the newest apple watch. btw I saw u wear one with the milieus band in the video on Self-balancing Unicycle V3 - Get a little balance in your life.
I couldn't remember exactly what drones I seen at Bestbuy last week, but I think they had one of these. @3:47 it already looks like you cracked a propeller.. HA!
What's up with the grey image every time when focust on Linus? And so expensive for just a drone which does not include a gimbal or a gopro, is it worth the extra over the DJI Phantom, I don't thinks so.
You should have purchased the chroma a lot more expensive but comes with it's own camera 360 degree pivot and insanely good controller that makes it virtually impossible to make this thing fall out of the sky.
i'm 301+ at 3am....nice to know i'm not the only one who doesn't sleep....also thats a badass drone....can u jus imagine having a few of those running surveillance or even i dunno mounting a 9mm barrel and action which shouldn't be too heavy for this that automatically fires on intruders.......damn we're makin it easy for skynet
I liked the video at the beginning like you suggested because I want to see that video. I also pressed the like button again at the end of the video because I enjoyed this video too.
How would it compare to the Phantom 2plus ? with its gimbal and reasonable video quality ? is it worth the "upgrade" if you can call it that. Thanks :D
Don't think its an upgrade compared to the 3, 3 has 4k and more features, but the 2plus it could be an upgrade so curious which to buy the 3 or the 3DR.
Sebastian Shepherd I meant an upgrade from the Phantom 2 Plus to Phantom 3. I just wanted to point out that you could "upgrade" with a Phantom 3 (if you didn't already know :-)).
I know this video is sort of old and likely somebody in the comments has mentioned this already, but your footage would be much better if you were to balance the propellers. It's fairly easy to do, but the quad would fly much better and it would all but eliminate the "jello" effect in the footage.
the beeping at 0:46 is unbelievably realistic, i searched my schoolbag and room without even considering it was part of the video.
Jacko_ Yeah, i though it was my phone too, which is dumb because my phone doesn't even have any kind of notification sound like that one
Jacko_ I rewound the video just to make sure it wasn't something else!
Jacko_ Yeah, same, I heard it and looked around my room thinking it was something else, haha.
LMAO
Jacko_ It played on my left headphone so I seriously thought for a second it was someone opening their car outside (there's a car with a slightly similar unlock beep). Y u do this linus.

0:47 Thought I was hearing that behind me
Balls. scared the shit out of me
Balls. I did too, scared the fuck out of me at 3 in the morning
Balls. I'm working from home over my IP phone and almost had a hearth attack thinking I missed a call (Helpdesk), jesus christ.,
Yeah it scared me too lol
Balls. Same, holy shit.
That noise scared the hell out of me.
I think I saw this one fly by while I was at the beach. Pretty cool, but I'll still build my own at some point for a third the price.
Why not just buy a twenty dollar toy helicopter, duct tape your phone onto it, and shove it into rich people's faces?
Thebiggestcheese It is no were near as stable , or does it have enough lift to fly around with a good camera.
mercenarieboy you shouldn't take him seriously ;p
Thebiggestcheese Try it out and tell me how it goes
Empyrean Equinox The phone fell off and killed an old man.
Thebiggestcheese Nice
Can this deliver my potatoes to me?
Its you
Yues
***** hahaha..
Viet Lee hey dude i see you comment on Jknews' videos good to see someone with the same channel interests ;)
Will it deliver xboxes and play stations? Maybe.
For Linus: Firepole > Liability Issues.
Let's see if you read all the *firepole* comments.
I see you used all different kinds of phones good going :D
Yeah, I noticed that too
Instructive "tour" of the features of the 3DR Solo Drone. Certainly shows what enthusiasts can look forward to with this gizmo!
00:46 Woah, that one got me! Asked my colleague if he heard the sound, and he was like "Huh? What sound..?". Stop trolling, Linus!
Have you guys tried the DJI Phantom 2/3 ? And if so, how does it compare ? And on that stabilazation note, you *need* a gimbal for stable video. And is there an option to get retractable legs ? It's extremely needed when you mount the gimbal
I REALLY enjoy those title card sub-titles. They've been pretty darn good lately.
I'll admit even though I've probably seen hundreds of personal builds I got excited when you said we'll be seeing your latest soon
This channel is awesom! I hope your guys new office works well for you!😄
I got this today for Christmas it is AWESOME
I would love for you to review the DJI Inspire 1. I'm seriously in love what that thing and the camera on it is just fantastic! 4K camera on a gimbal that shoots at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps and it gives no fisheye effect! I can't stand GoPros cause of the fisheye effect they bring. I'm considering purchasing it next year. But it do however cost a bit.
Mattsana I agree, and also a review of the Phantom 3 Pro which is a serious competitor.
There's a setting on the gopro to remove fisheye. They're useful for every situation
Mattsana LinusTechTips It's a great idea! The 3DR Solo Drone may be a good quadcopter but the Inspire 1 is a whole other level of awesomeness!
Indeed! That camera is just awwwwwwwwwwsome!
Most Definitely!!!
2:33 is that the g flex 2 that we never got a review for?😭
2:30 what phone is that.. .a g flex 2 ? I jus bought this drone and can't see official compatibility with my phone (g flex 2)
yaaaaaass for LMG personal rig updates!
I love my Solo. I know it has been a while, but I hope to see more vids!
Could you possibly do a review on the Spyhawk fps plane?
Linus SHOULD do a Dji Phantom 3 Professional review which is a REALLY good competitor to the Solo drone. Do something about kingpin or evga hydrocopper!!
Thanks for all linus
0:46 confused me so hard with surround sound headset >.

You would love it!

5:16 rolling shutter in the shadow looks really derpy XD
why have you not got your hands on a dji inspire yet???
0:45 thought my rice cooker turned on when I heard that sound
$400 for a GIMBAL? Kiss my WHAT?
hellcat1988 It is a big selling point for drones, so they know people who need it, will buy it. from a hobbyists POV, it is hella expensive

Just give it to Flitest, they help out for the review
MrOmegasix Im with you on this, untill Linus has some experience with proper quads he really shouldn't hype shit like this.
+Imdor hey at least he finds other things fun other than computers and phones
1:39 That Headphone Jack gave me nostalgia😞
And BTW Why is this in my recommended in 2020
Linus can you do a special episode on cameras? I recently got a go pro to film a sewing blog but I want to be another camera to film blogs and trips to see embroidery pieces so I need something that can pick up pretty good detail. Thanks
Can you compare it against dji phantom or dji inspire 1 or make a review for it i would like to see it preforms before deciding to buy it
Linus could you do a review on the focusrite scarlet studio set along with the mic and headphones would be great!

Under 301 and I dont get why I stay up till 1AM to see a video I already saw on vessel...dedication is too strong
Hey Linus,
Try the Dji Inspire 1
You'll love it
"I'm feeling like a star, you can't stop my shine, I'm loving cloud nine, my head's in the sky,
I'm Solo, I'm riding Solo, I'm riding Solo, I'm riding Solo, Solo."
Sums up this drone.
Beeping at the beginning is the first 3 notes to Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Is there a mic system, so that you can add audio to the video you are taking in the air?
What's the model name of that upcoming Lumix camera Linus mentions near the end of the vid? Any1?
Iv got a little Hubsain X4. Find it very hard to control. Are these higher end quads easier to fly?
Mybe I missed a video, but did you review the DJI Inspire 1?
Can't wait for VR drones that's gonna be badass
great demo of the latency of the video system, might be good to line up a shot but no good for FPV
I have a 350 QX3, outside of the slight fisheye effect, the camera is far better than a gopro without a gimbal. Now, if you have the gimbal for the gopro, that would be hard to be in any fashion.
I literally almost bought this a few hours ago! Now it's a sure deal!
Hello Linus and friends
6:52 what is he riding on?
Nice product, just wait till you try the Phantom series stuff.
AFTER the Cost of the 3DR solo 4K gopro and gimbal. You could almost have a inspire 1 which destroys this or for about 1000$ less you could get a phantom 3 which may not be as good but not 1000$ better
Best quad - unusable video and expensive price.
These kind of prebuilt drones are alright but for cheaper (5-600) you could build a much larger hexacopter or quadcopter from DJI that can fly miles away and hundreds of feet up.
Dear Linus, can you teach us on how to set up a CCTV system that can be integrated to Windows 8.1 or 10?
Can you also connect a Sony action can to the drone?
Finally a new rig update!
OMG 0:46 I started looking around my room like an idiot...
this may be a stupid question, but in my mobo readout software, my VRM is always at 50 C (i have a gtx 970) is the VRM the grapohics card's chips, or do i understand it incorrectly?
Highly informative.
will you compare it with the DJI Phantom 3+ or the new DJI Inspire? this video was awesome, waiting for another video

What phone(s) were they using with the controller in this video? I'm curious.
Can you do a review on the newest apple watch. btw I saw u wear one with the milieus band in the video on Self-balancing Unicycle V3 - Get a little balance in your life.

What was that beeping around 0:45? Scared the hell and all it's ice outta me.
Can you mount a non-wide angle camera on it?
what is the name of that song at the beginning of all your newer videos?
That sound at 0:47 is incredibly trolling
isnt 20 minutes of flight time a little low or does it really consume that much power?
You should have purchased the chroma a lot more expensive but comes with it's own camera 360 degree pivot and insanely good controller that makes it virtually impossible to make this thing fall out of the sky.
I suggest we do an experiment. If everyone dislikes the next video I wonder if the supposed review they haven't done is released?
Please tell me the battery life for normal use and hover only.
How does this compare to the inspire 1??
Potential oculus rift headset compatibility? That would be dope.
you guys need to check out the dji inspire one.
Damn you linus, making me want things I can't realistically afford.
i'm 301+ at 3am....nice to know i'm not the only one who doesn't sleep....also thats a badass drone....can u jus imagine having a few of those running surveillance or even i dunno mounting a 9mm barrel and action which shouldn't be too heavy for this that automatically fires on intruders.......damn we're makin it easy for skynet

Does the Go Pro come with the 3DR Solo
Do a review on the swagway
Hi Linus! Are you gonna take a look ar the Airdog drone too? :) I think you should check it out too. Either here or on SuperFun.
How would it compare to the Phantom 2plus ? with its gimbal and reasonable video quality ? is it worth the "upgrade" if you can call it that. Thanks :D
Sebastian Shepherd How about upgrading with a Phantom 3?
Don't think its an upgrade compared to the 3, 3 has 4k and more features, but the 2plus it could be an upgrade so curious which to buy the 3 or the 3DR.
Sebastian Shepherd I meant an upgrade from the Phantom 2 Plus to Phantom 3. I just wanted to point out that you could "upgrade" with a Phantom 3 (if you didn't already know :-)).
Personal rig update? I suppose, a 5960X, X99-Deluxe & SLI'ed Titan X going in along with 64 GB DDR4 RAMs.
I am in the same room as the VP of Engineer of this company... Epicness
Oh no you didnt linus! P3P FTW!!
Adam Bryant ?
Valansch Phantom 3 Pro > 3DR
Adam Bryant oh okay, couldn't find anything with only P3P.
Is the go pro included?
I know this video is sort of old and likely somebody in the comments has mentioned this already, but your footage would be much better if you were to balance the propellers. It's fairly easy to do, but the quad would fly much better and it would all but eliminate the "jello" effect in the footage.
Why am I awake at 2 am?
KennyTheTaco because you cant fall asleep
But it's 10am
+SuperDeluxe7 just like it's not 2am everywhere.
lolmont yeah but he/she was saying that the time there where he/she is is 2am so.....
KennyTheTaco Cause you just finished the heist you've been working on all day.
When is the follow up video?
Saw one at best buy it loked soo cool
You should check out some Robodrone drones :)
They are really the most advanced drones ever...
