The wild curly haired Arsenal fans celebration at the end is iconic and timeless
Indeed!
I've often wondered where he is now? They showed him a couple more away matches after this one in the following months and seasons but he seems to have disappeared now.
In todays age of "Fan tv" youtube channels he would have been semi famous and made some money from his celebration.
He looked disturbed and freaked everyone out, prob Arsenal fans as well
@@irieite9666 he was at Old Trafford again in 2002
@@alessiodelcastillo1613 WILTORD!! God that was a wonderful game. Beat them at home and won the league to finish off the double.
Overmars destroyed them single handedly
Took him at least 6 tries at it though 😂
When referees were still part of the Manchester Utd staff
Indeed. I suspect if Overmars had been shot through the head with a rifle in the Manchester United penalty area by one of their defenders the referee would have remained tacit.
@@Canalboyable are you kidding, they would of given Overmars a straight red for diving
Roger Durrant as Di Canio said, if they had taken him out in the penalty area with a machine gun, the man Utd players would still be arguing that it was outside of the box .
Shut up for god’s sake. Arsenal are a great team but they were no different in terms of referees support
@@np2155 An Arsenal fan admitting to dive. That’s nice to hear 👏
What a player Overmars was!
Don't let this distract you from the fact that Alexis Sanchez left Arsenal for Manchester United for Champions League football and still got eliminated in the last 16
he set a record last night in the champions league for how many times he lost the ball - 42 times lol
Savage Sagwa 😂😂😂😂😂
the most unnecessary transfer of all time... untited didn't need him
Belieber true but they did us a huge favour #MICKIMAGIC
Savage Sagwa yeah cause he’s terrible and let us down. Sanchez out José out pogba in
It's easy to forget how bias the officials were at OT in those days. They were running scared of making a bad decision against the home team. The advantage that gave Man Utd shouldn't be underestimated.
Yeah, Man Utd had that advantage during Ferguson's era, the referees were always on Man Utd's side
@UncleMikeNJ isn't it ironic how they are bleating about Casemiro's red at the weekend?
Overmars was over Jupiter in that game
Boringluis 126 txs
Great comment!!
Lets have a moment of silence for Alexis Sanchez who went to Buschester United to win Champions League😃😃😃✌
Wivas Poudel to win what???
How's that working out for you now bud?
typical game at OT during the fergie years, blatant pen not given
this is how utd won most of their titles
Lol
Overmars is 1000000x waayyy better than Sanchez!
Clearly
Abid Naufal Hilmy cos overmars can score at old Trafford
Abid Naufal Hilmy Man Utd are 1000000x better than Arsenal.
@@Trigga_47 that aged well🤣🤣
Ronaldo Owino lmao that makes me laugh
What a legend Marc Overmars
What a team Arsenal had
Had two golden opportunities in the first half
there isn't a single Arsenal-United game under Fergie that doesn't have some questionable refereeing decision, and im not even counting Fergie time.
this, that 2-2 from 2002, 0-0 at the old traford and that famous penalty and Nistelrooy not being sent off, that abomination of a fixed game which would have been Arsenal's 50th undefeated game in 2004, the list goes on.
Pooya Shirazi football has tendency to attract morons on mass. Please show me evidence of these apparent conspiracies. The 2-2 game? Would that be the Henry second goal that was two yards offside? Conspiracy that Arsenal score an illegitimate goal? No, just a bad call from the linesman and I sucked it up as a United fan and so should you suck it up as an Arsenal fan instead of convincing yourself the illuminati in conspiring against you. Moron..
its not a conspiracy it's simple pattern recognition, there was clear bias towards united, blatant pen not given, this is how utd won most of their titles
Let's not forget Pires's dive against Porthsmouth that saved you the unbeaten run.
@@garymitrovic2503 Ole cheated to get Campbell sent off

The Flying Dutchmen🛫🛬 Overmars & Bergkamp
The flying and the non-flying.
I think that foul on Overmars would have been given at the other end!!. United just never got penalties given against them at Old Trafford in those days. United were a great team in the 90s and 2000s but they were the beneficiaries of some scandalous decisions, particularly at home. I’m pretty sure In that time there was a run of about 5 or 6 years when no opposition player scored a penalty at OT.
Overmars pace was frightening
What a player he was
I remember I was 10 .... I barely used to watch football, only knew Ronaldo, but for some reason this game caught my attention as I was flipping through the channels, and then I watched how Arsenal and especially Overmars played, and that's where my love for Arsenal began... used to LOVE Overmars, Bergkamp, Petit... and although I'm glad that Arsenal will start a new journey after 22 years of Arsene, never forget what a legend that man is. Class personified. Hopefully now we can kick on and win bigger and better things #OneArseneWenger #Thanksforthememories
Well said sir
That ecstatic gooner at the end though...
He was at Old Trafford in 02 again lol
He got interviewed on Sky Sports the following season before a man u arsenal game cos of this! Apparently he was an investment banker. I wonder where he is now??
@@davidkelly5496 serving life for gbh
@@jj9749 you took your time in responding to that.. I forgot I even left that comment as it was 4 years ago!
Man, that was a penalty, but I always remember the Fergie days, refs were always scared to do anything against MU, especially when they play at Old Trafford. FA wanted a British super power and they got that in MU and Fergie and for that all refs should make sure MU wins. They were a super power created for the sake of dominating in Europe...
and they couldnt do it
@huss1205
Not a mention of the decisions Arsenal got at Highbury? including Winterburn blatantly fouling Scholes in the box at 2-2? Finished 3-2 to Arsenal (Remember Arsenal had to win BOTH games vs ManUtd that season to stand any chance of winning the title). ManUtd were the best team scored the most goals in the PL 7 straight seasons 1995/96 to 2001/02. If ManUtd won 97/98 would've won 6 out of 6 PL titles and should've.
Not a mention of the season earlier when IanWright stamped on Schmeichel and got away with it?
Not a mention of Ljungberg's offside goal at Highbury in 1998/99?
Not a mention of RoyKeane's wrongly disallowed goal in the first semi-final game of FAcup 1999?
Not a mention of Keane's red card in the replay?
Not a mention of Vieira diving all over the place all game in the 1999 Charity Shield? Where ManUtd are winning then he turns the game around with the soft pen he got?
Not a mention of the fact that not only should Vieira have been sent off for his accumulation of dives (including 1 with absolutely zero contact wasn't booked) he also assaulted NickyButt which was another red card offence and he was not sent off in that game??
Not a mention of the offside brace Thierry Henry got vs ManUtd in a title deciding game in 2002/03? Including 1 which was miles offside.
Not a mention of when Campbell fouled Giggs in the box and nothing was given in 2003/04?
Not a mention of Adebayor's hand goal at OldTrafford in 2007/08?
Not a mention of the 4 red cards Arsenal should've had in the FAcup game they played that season where a RonaldoLess ManUtd team thrashed Arsenal 4-0 so Arsenal resorted to kicking out for a large chunk of the match because they were getting beaten in the actual game of football? Should've got 4 red cards, only got 1 which was a double red offence. Plus FA looked into some of Arsenal's incidents like Gallas kicking Nani when the ball is no where near them, FA did F all (Flamini also did a 2 footed lunge on Nani)...then the following week Eduardo gets his leg snapped vs Birmingham and Wenger typical of him has the audacity to come out with comments like "in order to stop Arsenal you have to kick Arsenal"....yeah🤔
Oh and Arsenal blamed losing the title on that Eduardo injury, what did he have 4 goals? How many key suspensions could they have got from the ManUtd game? I honestly don't see how if they would've got the suspensions they should've had to more key players from the ManUtd game they should've got how it wouldn't have messed up their season any less than the Eduardo injury. Plus ManUtd were always going to finish above Arsenal that season anyway and that's why it's important to have squad depth but typical Arsenal the blaming culture Wenger created.
How come people don't see 1997/98 as Arsenal won because Keane was injured for all but the first month of the season plus they had injuries at key times to the likes of Schmeichel, Giggs, Pallister & Johnsen....it was lucky enough for Arsenal that Cantona had retired just before that season. ManUtd lost 2 captain's for the whole season the old & new captain.
1 of the only times Vieira "beat" Keane to a title lol because Keane wasn't there.
Even as an Arsenal fan, I couldn't help but feel sorry for John Curtis after that game, Overmars was on fire, and ran him ragged in the first half, it was almost cruel to watch. He was substituted after half-time, and I don't think he ever played for Utd again. Thing is, think even an experienced right back would have struggled against Overmars in that form.
When we were good
When man u And arsenal Were bossing the league
@hurdy gurdy When Arsenal fans didn't take Champions League place for granted.
I remember watching this game live on Sky. I remember Overmars ripped G Neville to bits down the left wing. This was the win that really started our run to the title that year!
Poor Alex Manninger under appreciated by Wenger. He should be the one who succeed David Seaman....
Wonderful Overmars
Amazing Overmars 🔥
The good old days without sign 'wenger out!'
fickle.
1-0 TO THE ARSENAL!
Then a year later, United did the treble stealing the league and fa cup away from Arsenal 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Overmars was great but a word for the goalie Manninger who I dont remember at all.
Was he the first choice that year?
No seaman was out injured for this game manninger was a sub goalkeeper he had a great game
Credit to Manninger, he carried on playing for 20 more years, finally retired in 2017.
@@PeaceDweller Thank you! Manninger was magnificient!
Overmars tore that United defense apart
The Golden Era. One day will we return, I'm sure of it. COYG!

Not with the Kroenke in charge Mark my words
Arsenal will always be the best team. Invincibles
Arsenal and Man Utd are the pioneers and elitists of the EPL we see today. Say what you like about Wenger, he is a legend and has earned his status. He can decide when to leave Arsenal, he is unsackable...
No such thing as unsackable, if u don't get the results your gone, simple as that, doesn't matter who u are!!!
This was the day where everyone said hmm wait a minute this title race is not done yet. Before this game a bookmaker Fred Done had paid out on United winning a 3rd straight league title because after United beat Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in February thanks a Phil Neville goal they had a huge 11 point lead at the top (although Arsenal had played 3 games fewer than United to that point) but the United lost the next game at Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 and then drew 1-1 at West Ham the game after this combined with Arsenal beating Wimbledon 1-0 brought the gap down to 9. Then Overmars scores that famous goal at Old Trafford and it made everyone stand up and say title race back on and Arsenal never looked back after this plus and as a result of Arsenal winning the title Fred Done faced up to liabilities of up to 200k.
Manninger our back up keeper playing shshshshsh
I still remember watching this as a kid :)
Allan Wilkie the ref should be in prison for not giving that penalty at 0:53!Scandalous robbery!!!!!no penalty?dwl
Overmars🙌🙌
Rob Schneider going mental at 2:41 😂😂😂 #ProperGooner
Adrian Garden
😂😂😂 u found it, I been thinking for years and years who's that man and u nailed it 💯 👏 🤣
He was interviewed the following season by sky sports before a Man U Arsenal game cos of this. He was some investment banker from London but yes he does look like Rob Schneider!
You can't outplay class .. Overmars is pure class
Statistics did not show much, but Marc Overmars was always a threat in his days with Arsenal. 👏 The dashing wingman. Think Robert Pires was only person truly took that left flank position and naturally made it his own. Many struggled playing this position ever since... They played but to not enjoy it and wanted the central number 10 position 😅 Alexis was alright, but his dream was to play as a Pianist for Manchester United boardroom and he succeeded.
Amazing why ferguson was never investigated for paying referees
Lmfao what an obvious penalty but hey it’s old Trafford. This is what clattemburg was talking about
Marc overmars was amazing!!
The day Overmars became my favorite player and Manninger became my favorite goalkeeper.
I was 8 years old at the time but I still remember it clearly.
Do do realize manninger was a sub goalkeeper of arsenal at the time
@@mikebarratt6767 No, I had no idea Seaman was our first choice. News to me.
@@nordicgaming2572 yes seaman was first choice he was injured and couldn't play that's why manninger stood in he had a good game
Man this brings back memories. This was the year I started watching the English Premier league and I picked Arsenal as my team because of Petit, Overmars & especially Bergkamp!
How was that not a penalty
The goal that won Arsenal the Premier League by a point over Manchester United in 1998.
1.01 absolutely penalty
Has anyone manage to calculate how much Utd bribed the referees regarding penalties at Old Trafford in the 90s? Must an astronomical amount.
Back in the day when Man U vs Arsenal was the battle of titans. ☄️🚀💥
Goalkeeper and Overmars masterclass
No penalty for Overmars??? Another pet ref for United!!
I remember this game! It was definitely the Marc Overmars show!
The Dutch footballers are the magicians of football.
That was def a penalty against Overmars
Overmars❤
Hahaha 2:42
that's why i am viewing this vid. legendary fan moment :D
Referes were against arsenal whenever man u met them
ManUtd were literally robbed at Highbury that season (and many other seasons at least robbed of the win) Arsenal don't stand a chance of the title without the controversial win they got there. They needed to take maximum points off ManUtd home&away 1997/98 otherwise they don't win the title it's as simple as that.
Overmars was so rapid.
Arsenal champion elp 23/24
Overmars > Sanchez
Manninger > Chech
Manninger got under utilised by Wenger. He should be succeeded David Seaman...
I know you're talking about Cech in 2018, but it's kinda disrespectful when you consider him in his prime
Nice vid as always
Owermars man of the match
The was a stonewall penalty
Overmars what a player
Enjoy it Barry Ferst !!!
My fav player when i was into football
This was the moment we won the title that season as far as im concerned, was 12 years old at the time and I still get goosebumps watching that fan at the end, absolutely iconic
1:33 what are you doing :D great defense :D
That guy at the end ! THAT'S HOW MUCH IT MEANT !!!
Yo Hector, u alright, cuz?
I remember when I was 21 working for Austin Reed on the Strand, my old boss (who was a Chelsea fan) let me take an extra long lunch so I could watch this game at the pub. He knew how important a game this was. Came back pissed and in high spirits. Best boss I ever had.
RIP Gary Newman.
Lord I miss this team, that kit, Overmars, Anelka, Vieira, Petit, Bergkamp and Alex Manninger was underated - great keeper!
Why is the commentary so awful compared to the original one ?
I watched a highlight reply of this game, and it showed every MU attempt and the only one from Arsenal was the goal.
The only giveaway was the commentary suggesting MO was threatening to do that all afternoon.
So much bias to MU
The good old days when we were good
0:24
A rather weary one from....Dixon.
Cole couldn't quite do what Giggs managed the following season, nor could ManUtd's season turn out anywhere near as good but nevermind you saw the potential at least.
Every player in that squad was my favourite player. Arsenal forever!
I remember a very beautiful simple looking woman enjoying the win . Lovely ❤
'Overmars, overjoyed and not over yet'
