    Give this man his Flowers.... He had genuine injuries, it wasn't just a mindset issue.

    A torn groin is a one year to full recovery type injury. That he sprinted on it that soon is a testament to his grit. Respect.

      @@farrlaterry1365 some athletes do better in one off races like in the diamond league and some do better when there are progressive rounds as in the Olympics or world championships .. asafa did run some pretty fast times on several occasions on the circuit and no one can take that away from him

    This is why I stood behind Simone when she bowed out of the Olympics because of the twisties. I've seen many a gymnast hurt or had to retire because they tried to please others and disregard their own safety.

    One thing with Gatlin...Love him or hate him...His mental toughness was next level. He rose to the occasion under some pressure that would have probably ended some folks...The man was hated at one point. Got the boos but was able to go out and get it done. That is inspiration and anyone who refuses to draw inspiration from that does not want to be great...Having mental toughness/resilience is the key to succeeding in life. Without it, you will fail at anything you endeavour to do that is worthwhile.

    Most athletes don't talk about their injuries during a competition... so for those people who are cconstantly rude and disrespectful toward the athletes kindly show some sympathy and understanding, they're not organic robots, they do get injured. It's a disgrace to read some of the comments especially from the Jamaicans...

    • @michellerowe-smith5803
      @michellerowe-smith5803 24 дні тому

      I believe if he was healthy he could have beaten both of them. He did have a mental black when at the Olympic. He ran the anchor leg in the 4x 100 relay and that is the fastest time ever clocked by a human in history. He holds the record for most sub 10 races. He is the real deal.

    • @AmandaQuest-fr9eu
      @AmandaQuest-fr9eu 24 дні тому

      @@michellerowe-smith5803 He definitely would not have beaten Bolt or Blake on the big stage, and in fact never did as far as I am aware. Not only did they have the mental toughness but were also more naturally gifted/talented and ran faster times (the top two fastest times in history) than him even whilst having a less refined running form...Stephen Francis is to thank for Powell's running form. Also, having the most sub-10 clockings in history does not mean that you are the best/greatest in your field. In this case, Bolt and Blake ran 100 m and 200 m which takes away their full focus from both events. And, Powell was able to clock all those sub-10s based on how long he was running for (longer than most athletes have ever competed for) as well as because of the sprinting mechanics that his coach engineered. Once you have good spinting mechanics it is much easier to run fast times consistently and his sprinting mechanics is an amalgam of a number of top sprinters with impeccable sprinting forms that his coach had him study astutely when he was trying to mold him into the best technical sprinter that he could possibly be.

      @@michellerowe-smith5803that was in 2008, Powell wasn’t at his best in London anymore, he wasn’t running sub 9.8
      If you’re talking about peak asafa without mental block, maybe he would’ve gotten the bronze in this race
