great video buddy, was looking for this phoenix model on youtube because i was thinking about adopting it to fpv and maybe putting dragonlink receiver to have a long range, what do you think about that? Would it fit in this model airplane?
Have you thought about possibly making a PAIR from another crashed plane wing? If you have a pair of left and right wings, you could make one pretty easy. BUT, to answer your question, I apologize, but don't know where to source just the sharklets. I know the Tower Hobbies, ASW28 comes with two sets ;) - bprc.me/TH_ASW28
Shouldn't be a big issue. More than one way to skin a cat, and I certainly don't see any issue. The ASW28 could really use more throw or bigger ailerons stock, but I've had 3 of these and always enjoyed them after some mods ;)
Hi Mr Brian, your flying skill is amazing. Can you help me about wing loading between 3 model: Phoenix 2400, Evolution 2.6m, and ASW 28. Which model has lowest wing loading?
Phoenix Evo 1.6/2.6 would have the lowest wing loading, but the Phoenix 2.4m might be a bit better plane. @@BrianPhillipsRC Sure I will buy plane from the link you provide if can help you a little bit, to say thank you :). But I'm novice pilot, so which one suitable for high wind conditions, my flying site always windy like you flying at the beach on a storm day. I just try to fly zohd orbit, epp hummer 3D, each twice, can fly but not satisfy, too hard to control then not fun any more, because of high wind at my flying site. I try a glider in my simulator Phoenix in very high wind condition and I can see a glider more fun fying in high wind than any other type of plane like flying wing, 3D plane...It floating and gliding nice in wind, and I even fly it like an EDF Jet, crazy fast, straight and low like your video about flying ASW28 over snow (as I remember)
Does the motor thrust angle apply to gliders as well? Flew a Volantex Phoenix 2000, its an awesome rc glider for the price. I have noticed that when giving it full throttle it climbs, and I mean almost vertical if pointed toward the wind. I need to give it down elevator or else its almost unlimited vertical. But its not that user friendly to put some washers behind the firewall. Mine has the plastic mold template for the motor that goes inside the firewall, w an outer metal plate on the outside. Another thing, I already burned a cheapo motor, and upgraded to a HK more high end type, not that hot, just somewhat warm if crank it up during flight. The fuselage design does not have enough ventilation, I ended opening the front two holes, making two additional ones of about the same size behind under the wing, and two smaller ones ) diameter of a pencil eraser close to to the rear factory hole, side to side underneath the elevator. My main complaint is the excessive climb on the throttle, but others have said its the nature of a glider. It does fly very nice, and get thermals until I get tired, and almost cant see the plane at all... lol :-) *funny video ja ja
YES, in my experience, it does. If you have issues you may have an alignment issue between the angle of incidence on the main wing and the tail plane. If not, try shimming down the motor for more down and right thrust. Might help SOME...or mix some down-elevator...but very sparing with it...can get HAIRY...had to do this with my Bird of Time :)
Thank you Brian, your input is always appreciated. Kudos for flying many of the gliders w almost to none color as I find them extremely difficult to maintain orientation when the plane is all white, the same goes to many of the other club members.
I love the way it looks white, but the orientation stripes, like those I added on this plane, REALLY help a lot. Time of day makes a HUGE difference for me too, and overcast skies make just about any plane disappear! I have a Lancaster, which I call my "flying turd" since it is near impossible to see which way it's tipped in the air....camo looks great, but makes it hard to differentiate top of wing from bottom of wing!
I know I EVENTUALLY replaced the Elevator and Rudder servos, but don't think I did to any of the wing servos, and not 100% sure I had done it at this point.
I love scale planes, which is why I do really like the ASW28, but the Phoenix is a BETTER flying plane, easier assembly, and more solid, it's basically way better out of the box, while the ASW-28 needs lots of TLC to get her flying the way I wanted her to fly.
I have enjoyed lots of your videos featuring the Volantex ASW 28, now I notice its the V2 ASW 28, how do they compare? My V1 ASW 28 flys best with a 4 cell 2200 but it will fly with all 4s bats up to a 5000. The new one uses a 3s apparently, what the other differences? flying characteristics etc? Keep the flights coming! Cheers from Australia.
I'm a slope and thermal guy from back in the mid '70's with an ASW-15 by Astroflite. We flew at "The Bluffs" on the coast of Long Beach, California. I had the ship rigged for coupled rudder/aileron. So now that I have an ASW-28 hanging from my ceiling I'm wondering how it will thermal or loiter in wave lift, ie how slow will it go and cruis at altitude??? I used to have fun playing with speeds near stall just to get that little more lift at the front of a wave. We flew off a 30' bluff facing the ocean and the wave lift could go as high as 200' over the beach. Sometimes there was thermal air from the beach too so this fast ASW-28 kind of scares me. How to slow it down??? Thanks, Thailand Paul
The ASW28 might disappoint for this application - get the Phoenix 2.0 or the Phoenix 1.6/2.6m - you'll like them way better, unless you want to see the beautiful scale details of the ASW28...then you can just plan to fly faster. @@BrianPhillipsRC Interesting and thanks. Looks like ASW 2.54 is out of stock. Meanwhile I'll be thinking about weight savings and a cleaner wing and maybe extending the wing tips 20cm or so. I've already used mylar to seal some of the gaps and have sanded down the trailing edge to more of a point. I calculated there is about 8 inches square of blunt stock trailing edge. Too much for me, thank you Mr. China. Thanks again. Paul in Thailand
Hi Brian, great video as always! I want the ASW but I am leery of the stalls Is this ASW 28 the one you extended the flaps and ailerons with the round pin hinges, I really want to know
Hi Brian thanks for the straight answer, will stick with my much crashed V1, 4yrs old and still the best plane for a windy day. p.s. my compliments to your camera operator, always does a first rate job, she must have nerves of steel !!
I have a link to the Lemon-Rx receiver I prefer in the description, but here's the link... Lemon-Rx 7Ch DSMX Rx w/ Stabilizer + Diversity Antenna - amzn.to/2GTlQze As for a video, I've got a bunch of videos. This ASW-28 and teh Phoenix Evo 1.6/2.6m playlists both have radio setup videos for you to check out. The setup for a DX8 is almost exactly the same as DX18 (what I show it with). Hope these help you out! Good luck!
Hi Brain, which one is your favorite and easiest to fly of the Volantex? Do you recommend the 1.6m 2.0m or 2.4m or 2540mm? I fly for about a year now and i want to try a glider, still want to incorporate the plane with panic buttons/stabilization. Frsky s6r is going to be in one these then.
I would say the 2.0m Phoenix is the best one, easier to transport, and wings come on and off easier too! Phoenix V2 2m amzn.to/2UW7AQy / ban.ggood.vip/5a5y ...this would be my top pick of these you mentioned.
I'm down to these two or the CMP ASH-26, which I still found NIB on eBay, surprisingly. The ASW-28 is the prettiest, definitely, but in what way do you mean it's hard to fly? Just requires more pilot load than the Phoenix? And is it a..."this is fun" more load or a "oh god I'm barely in control" kind of more load? I mean it's still a powered sailplane, and seems to still react nice and slow. I've flown all kinds of other RC, just never a sailplane, and I'd like to start with a powered one for familiarity, and because nobody at my field flys them, so I don't have a tow buddy, etc. I also live in Pennsylvania, with lots of large hills, and a big river gorge not far from here with 100 foot rocky cliffs that would be super fun to try a sailplane off of. Anyway thanks for any help.
Sorry, not even really comparable, but the Phoenix is EASY to fly...the CMP ASH-26 is a composite and balsa wood buildup plane...it's AMAZING, but also a TON of work to build, and will need loads of expensive stuff to finish off, so it's like comparing a Lamborghini to a Ford Focus - both are cars, but both are NOT "super-cars" ;) Although I might be slightly exaggerating the difference in experiences, since that's very subjective.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I've built molded fiberglass planes before that basically were just shells you had to glue in every former etc. I guess I just want something a little more laid back for not only building, but overall money into it too. I have a giant scale Laser 200 with a DLE-222 that's my current money pit project, lol, and I want something that's a bit more of a "foamie with class". I have a slightly larger 500kv motor I might try with the ASW-28, as I have some 50A Samsung 21700 Lion cells I want to make into a couple long, thin stick packs, and it looks like there's potentially a 'hole' above the RX mount plate and just under the wing mount bracketry I might slip them through...(I'd build them only 2 cells wide, and 2-3 cells long). They'd only have thin Kapton tape over them, so at max about 43x22mm is all the hole needs to be. Imagine the flight times....
Great funn whit the phoenix 2400. Have allso one, and the asw 28 volantex. Im yust on a dyamond from Art tech, its the same like the robbe acrus. Happy Christmas from swiss
Hello Brian, great videos and super work on all your planes, would love to have your opinion on the setup I want to do for my ASW28, would be all stock with a lemon stability PLUS receiver, I am new and only have flown a Timber and mostly on SAFE. Now I wanted to move up a bit and try a glider, really love gliders. Do you think I will get good stability in order to fly safely? Is the PLUS stability on the Lemon receiver similar to SAFE on the Timber? Do,you really notice the auto leveling compared to normal flight? Thanks in advance for you help and opinion, I am sure it will help some.
I have not had good luck with the "PLUS", but I LOVE the 7 channel with stabilizers, and swear by them... Lemon-Rx 7Ch DSMX Rx w/ Stabilizer + Diversity Antenna - amzn.to/2GTlQze ...If you get the "plus", they claim you can use auto leveling, and while I can admit I haven't extensively played with it, I can't say it's rock solid like SAFE...which still has it's limits. I would encourage you to get the Phoenix Evolution, rather than the ASW-28. Even though I love them both, the Phoenix is just a GREAT flying machine! As one new to the hobby, you will have a much easier time with the Phoenix, plus my Banggood link will get it to you for less than $110...slightly less expensive than the ASW-28, which I put another $50-75 into to really "make it good"...but if you reject my advice, I totally understand the allure of the ASW-28 :) Phoenix Evolution 2.6m: goo.gl/YHvCof
Keep in mind he has added 1/2 inches to the ailerons and flaps of the aws28, that's how it does the aerobatics, rolls etc. I got a kit version from Porcupine hobby, way cheaper than Banggood.
Thank you! At this point, I was flying for about 3.5 years at this point. I love it, and fly a lot!!! Thanks for the kind words! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Спасибо! В этот момент я летал около 3,5 лет. Я люблю это, и много летаю !!! Спасибо за добрые слова!
I have an early V1 that had a tough time waddling off the ground. Bigger esc and 4s helped. Peeps kept complaining about wire fiddling so I did open heart surgery and installed a Radian bombay. Fits like it was born there! I also color coded all the wires. complaints are diminishing rapidly. Going to experiment with a 1000 mah 4s on calmer days and see if I can get it to stick up in the sky better. Anyone know where I can purchase those nifty plastic wing keepers instead of keeping track of 4 silly little screws?
I love the Phoenix ;) I've had really good luck with mine. Wish I knew where to get some pressure clips, as it'd be a whole lot nicer then all those screws!!!
Esteban is my UA-cam celebrity cameo...he makes drop in appearances, in front of and behind the camera all the time! He's like my guest host :) P.S. Boaring warning...I'm gonna post a video about putting the stock decals onto my Phoenix, but at the end, I'll do my custom decals ;) Inside tip for you, so you can super-fast-forward to the "good stuff" ;) Hope you can watch!
Wonder if you could get a Pixhawk Cube or Furious fpv F-35 flight controller in one of these to do some autonomous GPS waypoint video missions. And mabye get some long range Telemetry and one watt Video too. I can put my Extra Class Amateur Radio license to use since nobody talks much anymore.
I've seen another UA-camr do just that...pretty cool stuff, but not really my cup of tea (at the moment). You should give it a try! This plane would be a wonderful platform, no doubt!
So, bottom line -- between the Phoenix 2400, the Phoenix Evolution 2.6, and the ASW-28, which of the Volantex RC gliders is the best for FPV and camera videos? I'm looking for stability, easy CG manipulation after device installation, and unobstructed view. I'm thinking the Phoenix 2400 might win this competition; I'm guessing it's the most stable, with possibly the most forgiving CG. However, does it have the necessary room? The ASW-28 may have more room, but I'm not sure about the CG manipulation or stability (same stability question with the Evolution 2.6) Thanks!
I killed mine on a 4S pack, so I don't recommend it. The ESC caused a timing issue with the motor/ESC combo, but I believe the ESC IS rated for the 4S...just the motor has some issue. In my personal experience, I've found that 3S is generally sufficient for it, since this is a sail plane. You get the speed from gravity and maneuvering...but I totally get the draw to a faster climb out ;) Don't mean to discourage you, but don't want your plane in a pile of rubble like mine was :(
It seems to be BACK ORDERED just about everywhere :( I'm not sure how I can help. I could tell you to order a much better plane here... ASW-17 2.5m bit.ly/3nLuFjU + AR637T bit.ly/3pW3u86 ...but it's a bigger, higher quality plane, but it's also quite a bit more expensive....AND Worth it ;) Sorry Justine!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Yes indeed, I could to buy on ebay for example. The ASW-17 have the better quality as ASW-28 surely. This is semi scale aspect of ASW-28 who seduced me and your demonstration also. But the flap hinge do not resist so long time probably and the servos have plastic gear. Your advice is precious, many thanks.
Yes, all stock on the Phoenix Evolution 2.6m. The ASW-28 has a larger ESC (mostly for the larger BEC...I wanted 5.5VDC@5Amps...the stock on is only 5VDC@3Amps).
This is a very good plane for the money! The only real problem is there are two screws on each wing that are too short by about 1/8" (what a dumb problem to have, right?!??!) but I was able to find a better length in my junk screws. Everything else has proven to be very good! You can use a 2200mAh 3S 60C pack if you pull the 45grams of nose weight out. I know you weren't a big fan of the original Consendo S, if I remember right, but I thought that plane was excellent.
Well, after fifty years of dreaming, I finally popped my r/c virginity. I made a Gentle Lady and have racked up a couple of hours of flying time. Also fallen in love with my brother’s Radian, which is an awesome ship eith which to learn. And so, buoyed with confidence, I had another attempt with the ASW28... Three seconds later I nose-planted into the ground... I just can’t seem to be able to keep this monster in the air long enough to trim it and get a feel for it. I will persevere, but I will say one thing for it: it’s one tough mudder! I have hit the deck HARD four times, and still yet to bust anything more than a carbon reinforcing rod.
Don't get discouraged! Crashing is just an expensive way to learn to fly better!!! I've only been flying about five years, and I learn something new every time I fly...and usually a few things new every time I crash! If you're having trouble with pitch control, try three things... 1) Set your CG so the plane is NOSE heavy...YES, you heard me right, MAKE IT WRONG, but nose heavy, wrong. This will make the plane want to fly, not stall. Also it will make the plane way more stable. When you get more advanced, you can slowly move the CG back to neutral, or even a touch tail heavy, for thermalling and crashing (LOL). 2) Lessen the elevator pitch authority. This will help you to have more precision, but less output on your elevator (pitch) axis. This can be accomplished easily by moving the linkage to the elevator up CLOSER to the control surface. Some very experienced sail plane pilots claim that "elevators are optional" and they're serious *ly crazy...if you ask me...but way better pilots that I 3) Consider using a stabilizer. They help emensly as a new pilot, but especially on an unforgiving plane. They are harder to setup, but well worth it, and make these planes look so solid in flight. Don't let anyone talk oyu out of using any flight aid that helps you become a better pilot...and NO, you won't become dependant, you'll have a higher success to failure ratio, thus you'll be less likely to quit...so ignore the Nay-sayers ;) You can do it!
You might try test gliding it into tall grass from a kneeling position. That way you get a feel for the trim without any big drama. Or run with it into a wind and get a feel for how it lifts out of your hand. ASW28 will always be twitchy because it seems to have zero dihedral. I tested my ASW-15 once (Astroflite) and found that just a few degrees of dihedral adds a lot of hands off stability. A lot. Without it ASW-28 is likely to be twitchy by nature.
Awesome planes can't choose which I like. Maybe it's just pat that keeps me liking the 28. The evo is awesome to still can't wait to see your design on decals. And a 380 coming up awesome. Thanks and thanks to Estabon if that's right spelling of his name.
Esteban - Very close :) We're gonna do decals tonight, after a rudder hinge mod, and LED lighting mod...weather is gonna suck this weekend, so I'll be getting these projects done ASAP! Hope you check them out.
Hey Brian, You Need To Invest Into A Cheap Remote Mic Soo We Can Hear All Your Flight Babbling!!! LMAO.... I Also Want To See More Waterfalls, Regular & Inverted Flat Spins Then Some 2-Way Knife Edges, Harriers & Prop Hangs!?
Hey dude! If you measure the voltage on the battery without charging, it will always be higher. Try measuring yourself with the engine at full load! You will then see the difference.
You could have made a much shorter and objective video, like 5 minutes... So it looks like the asw28 is slower handling and has lower glide ratio? That’s what I actually would like to know. Which do you think will do better at ridge soaring with slow winds? Thanks
Ah what? I was so looking forward to hearing YOUR verdict, Evo or ASW. The ASW looks awesome, but I think I'd stick with the Evo. Disclamer: I have the Evo, but not this ASW. I do have the ST Models ASW28, which also stalls easily.
I would have to say that the Phoenix is a better plane, but I personally prefer scale planes....I'm a sucker for them, even if they don't fly as good :) I hope you can understand. Here's my TRUE verdict... is it too much to ask for both??? LOL P.S. I also have the ST Model ASW-28...which is far inferior to the one in this video. If you haven't had the Volantex ASW28, you would be surprised how much better it is...BUT it's a LOT harder to transport, since it's a few feet longer
I think I may have missed the boat on replying to your comment, since...it was a year ago that you mentioned your plans - sorry about that!!! UA-cam has been screwing up the way creators handle comments for at least that long, but glad I found it...I supose better late then never???? ....maybe not so much in this case - LOL
@@BrianPhillipsRC all good we all have busy lives lol i actually brought this glider with me up here in alaska i am up here working til i go back to hawaii
I agree the Phoenix seems to be better built, but it's just a different animal. I'm a sucker for scale planes, so while the Phoenix is not bad looking, the ASW 28 is just plane beautiful :)
I have to step in and defend Esteban on this one Grant. This "Casper white" Phoenix (Esteban's description - LOL) against the cloud cover does make for a horrific filming experience. When I get some decals on it, I think it'll be work better :) We've had this problem on our phone too, regrettably :( Gotta keep my favorite Spanish speaking cameo happy, after all!!!

Hello Brian. Thanks for all your videos and posts regarding the ASW28. Great job! Yeah, the 1500mAh 3S might be a bit small, but some people like the lighter packs. However, I'd encourage you to consider the Phoenix V2 2000mm, as it's a better plane, but not scale.
If you want the BEST flying glider like this, there's what you MAY consider....it's SOOOOO good!
Conscendo Evolution 1.5m bit.ly/2DPmW2F

It does fly very nice, and get thermals until I get tired, and almost cant see the plane at all... lol
:-)
*funny video ja ja
Full crow on the asw 28 looks crazy. The Wings... All whit the original servos?
I know I EVENTUALLY replaced the Elevator and Rudder servos, but don't think I did to any of the wing servos, and not 100% sure I had done it at this point.
Awesome flying . I am thinking about buying an asw 28 or a phoenix 2400.. Would you say the phoenix is the overall favorite?
I love scale planes, which is why I do really like the ASW28, but the Phoenix is a BETTER flying plane, easier assembly, and more solid, it's basically way better out of the box, while the ASW-28 needs lots of TLC to get her flying the way I wanted her to fly.
@@BrianPhillipsRC alright then the Phoenix will come first. But the asw will definitely come too some time👍
Good call!
V2 has WAY better wings...SOOOOO much faster to "plug into the fuse" BUT the rest is pretty similar.
If you can, think about buying from my links - It'll help us out, if you are going to buy anyway ;)

So a longer wing without sharklets?
@@BrianPhillipsRC yes and lower wing loading.
Hi Brian, great video as always!

Hi Brian thanks for the straight answer, will stick with my much crashed V1, 4yrs old and still the best plane for a windy day. p.s. my compliments to your camera operator, always does a first rate job, she must have nerves of steel !!

As for a video, I've got a bunch of videos. This ASW-28 and teh Phoenix Evo 1.6/2.6m playlists both have radio setup videos for you to check out. The setup for a DX8 is almost exactly the same as DX18 (what I show it with). Hope these help you out! Good luck!
Hi Brain,
which one is your favorite and easiest to fly of the Volantex? Do you recommend the 1.6m 2.0m or 2.4m or 2540mm?
I fly for about a year now and i want to try a glider, still want to incorporate the plane with panic buttons/stabilization. Frsky s6r is going to be in one these then.
I would say the 2.0m Phoenix is the best one, easier to transport, and wings come on and off easier too!
Phoenix V2 2m amzn.to/2UW7AQy / ban.ggood.vip/5a5y
...this would be my top pick of these you mentioned.
What controller and battery are you using for the ASW28
You found a NIB ASH-26??!?!?!??!?!?!? GET IT - It is WAY more HARD to build, but it is GLORIOUS to fly.

Lemon-Rx 7Ch DSMX Rx w/ Stabilizer + Diversity Antenna - amzn.to/2GTlQze
...If you get the "plus", they claim you can use auto leveling, and while I can admit I haven't extensively played with it, I can't say it's rock solid like SAFE...which still has it's limits.
I would encourage you to get the Phoenix Evolution, rather than the ASW-28. Even though I love them both, the Phoenix is just a GREAT flying machine! As one new to the hobby, you will have a much easier time with the Phoenix, plus my Banggood link will get it to you for less than $110...slightly less expensive than the ASW-28, which I put another $50-75 into to really "make it good"...but if you reject my advice, I totally understand the allure of the ASW-28 :)
Phoenix Evolution 2.6m: goo.gl/YHvCof
Which is the best Sir.?
Between these two?
I'd say the Phoenix is a better plane, but the ASW-28 is more beautiful ;)
Sir who flies great..? And for beginner which would be best .? Please tell Sir
Phx easier to fly I think then the asw can't say tho no experience yet
Keep in mind he has added 1/2 inches to the ailerons and flaps of the aws28, that's how it does the aerobatics, rolls etc. I got a kit version from Porcupine hobby, way cheaper than Banggood.

Спасибо!

That Phoenix is one sweet flyer. Very impressive. BTW Esteban did a great job. You now have an excellent sub.

P.S. Boaring warning...I'm gonna post a video about putting the stock decals onto my Phoenix, but at the end, I'll do my custom decals ;) Inside tip for you, so you can super-fast-forward to the "good stuff" ;) Hope you can watch!
Thanks for the tip, but I'll probably end up watching the whole thing. I might miss something.
Thanks!
Brian do you use ailerons differential setting with ASW-28?
I like to get the plane rolling faster, and the ailerons are not very effective alone.
Phoenix 2.6
I think you'll like the Phoenix 2.4 better, but for FPV, I have to imagine the 2.6 will edge it out by a razor thin margin.
Hi Brian thanks for that info, but will the ASW 28 V2 fly on a 4 cell straight out of the box like the V1?
I killed mine on a 4S pack, so I don't recommend it. The ESC caused a timing issue with the motor/ESC combo, but I believe the ESC IS rated for the 4S...just the motor has some issue. In my personal experience, I've found that 3S is generally sufficient for it, since this is a sail plane. You get the speed from gravity and maneuvering...but I totally get the draw to a faster climb out ;)
Don't mean to discourage you, but don't want your plane in a pile of rubble like mine was :(

Volantex RC - Phoenix Evolution esc and motor?
Yes, all stock on the Phoenix Evolution 2.6m. The ASW-28 has a larger ESC (mostly for the larger BEC...I wanted 5.5VDC@5Amps...the stock on is only 5VDC@3Amps).
On the ASW-28, I used a larger prop, also...which is why I haven't yet decided to upgrade the ESC on the Phoenix Evo
Great thanks considering one or the new Conscendo, I sold my first version.
Some very experienced sail plane pilots claim that "elevators are optional" and they're serious *ly crazy...if you ask me...but way better pilots that I
3) Consider using a stabilizer. They help emensly as a new pilot, but especially on an unforgiving plane. They are harder to setup, but well worth it, and make these planes look so solid in flight. Don't let anyone talk oyu out of using any flight aid that helps you become a better pilot...and NO, you won't become dependant, you'll have a higher success to failure ratio, thus you'll be less likely to quit...so ignore the Nay-sayers ;)
You can do it!
Cool, you the best pilot
Hardly, but thank you :) I definitely love flying!!!
Awesome planes can't choose which I like. Maybe it's just pat that keeps me liking the 28. The evo is awesome to still can't wait to see your design on decals. And a 380 coming up awesome. Thanks and thanks to Estabon if that's right spelling of his name.

LOL
P.S. I also have the ST Model ASW-28...which is far inferior to the one in this video. If you haven't had the Volantex ASW28, you would be surprised how much better it is...BUT it's a LOT harder to transport, since it's a few feet longer

Hello Brian. Thanks for all your videos and posts regarding the ASW28. Great job! Used to fly some years ago, but gliders always have been my passion and i was thinking about buying this one to come back to the sport. Is the ASW28 a plane you would recommend for re-start flying? I can see it now in a super nice price at bangood. For the batteries, and without wanting to play a lot with the setup (for now) what would you recommend from this list www.banggood.com/search/3s-11.1v-1500mah-lipoly-battery.html?sbc=1 ?
Thanks.
Yeah, the 1500mAh 3S might be a bit small, but some people like the lighter packs.
However, I'd encourage you to consider the Phoenix V2 2000mm, as it's a better plane, but not scale. If scale sail planes are your thing, you want the ASW28, but if you'd perfer a better flying plane, out of the box, you might want to get the Phoenix...here's a link - ua-cam.com/play/PLXTH0DstRDc6cCp-YlRE3IGFWFwMSCwIv.html
@@BrianPhillipsRCgot mine asw28 :D, been playing around with it, folowwing some of your tricks and tips, but still fighting with radio setups. Meanwhile got my hands on an almost new Dx9 and just got a Lemon Rx Stabilizer plus receiver.Any chance you could share your setup file for the asw28? Meanwhile, had a few crashes and ordered some spare canopies from banggood, but for the spinner and centerpiece just ordered aluminum ones from Aeronaut at www.electricwingman.com (live in Europe) together with 12x8 carbon folding prop blades. Can't wait to try them. Thanks!
Be careful about the 12X8 prop. You MAY want to think about going up to a 40Amp ESC, if you can tolerate the work and expense. The 30 Amp ESC might give you fits ;)
As for Lemon-Rx Stabilizer Plus - I don't like it...I LOVE the 7 channel with stabilization, but not the "auto-leveling" which is available on the Stabilizer Plus. I've had issues with mine losing contact, and I think it had to do with setting servo travels up to 150%, then the servos will "float, and you may even reset the receiver if you go inverted, and try to turn on the StabilizationPlus...but maybe I just had bad luck with mine?
P.S. I really LOVE lemon-RX, but just have had such great luck with their 7 channel with stabilization, that I can't fathom changing :)

Esteban doesn't like to fly on camera. I've filmed him, and he clams up (worse than usual)...some day, it will happen!
Not a foam fan. yuck
Did you watch it fly?
Yeah not as much fun as building a balsa plane and then rebuilding it
No wonder it flew so good, u had “modular” wind!😂
yes
