Not sure I'd call the Sony 50mm f1.2 a nifty50, the whole idea of the nifty50 is it's a cheap 50mm that you is very cost effective, which the f1.2 isn't, the nifty50 on Sony is the Sony 50mm F1.8
The noise of samyang af is still very low. And seems to me you boosted the overall volmue in samyang test. can clearly notice the boost in background noise when you switch from sony to samyang. Also to mention since the arrival of a7IV, the amazing breath compensation only works with GM lens mostly. Samyang lens certainly does not have this treatment. So consider that as well.
I agree, but at the same time the Samyang is nicely corrected for focus breathing optically. It does not need this correction as bad as the Sony. And Yes, the Samyang is not a noisy lens at all. Only audible when using the camera's internal microphone.
samyang lens are like stealth lens as far as noise goes. no strange old radio like noise from motors, nothing its almost strange without any feedback just getting super fast focus
I've shot several weddings with the new Samyang 50. It's quiet enough than videographers don't hear it focusing, and I like how this lens renders over the Sony Zeiss and GM which look too "digital" for me.
The AF on the Samyang might be a bit slower, but it seems more cinematic too because of that. Unfortunately, it is not always super reliable at wide open apertures in video mode.
Honestly the only real benefit of the F1.2 Sony lens over the Samyang would be the quad linear motors compared to the single linear motor in he Samyang. If you're not a working photographer who needs something like that for weddings or events then I'd say that the Samyang is a better bet, though if you don't require autofocus and you're just looking for a hobby adapting a fast vintage lens like the $80 Pentax-M 50mm F1.4 on a $500 used Sony A7II body will get you great results with a little patience. I typically prefer manual focus in aperture priority mode, so I tend to stick with vintage glass or modern manual focus lenses (the Laowa 105mm f2 STM is simply amazing, and it can be had for like $400 used).
The samayang seems to have better fo us breathing. Which imo makes it better for serious video. Also I didn't see much af noise. The differences aren't too much in image quality.
It arrived and it forward focuses. I’m going to send it back. Bummer because other than it not focusing properly, the color and bokeh looks really good.
@@DanboxingPH I started by taking portraits of my children. All of the shots are soft. But thier cheeks are razor sharp. 🤓 You can see pretty easily that it’s forward focusing. I then busted out a tape measure to confirm.
@@f0t0b0y That’s why it was cheap😬🤷🏻♂️. I also have one on my shoping cart, but are “returned”,” refurbished” ones…. I think will just get a new one. Dis you go for a new never used one too?
I personally didn't hear my copy of the Samyang 50mm 1.4 II make any noise while filming or taking photos, not even in your video and I was wearing headphones.
50mm gm is interesting, because it is kinda unique whatever lens you have. Both could be good nice for amazing thumbnails and outside broll (for inside it is maybe a bit too tight)
Almost similar picture quality wise, nagkakadalihan lang talaga sa AF-servo. for video work requiring quick and accurate AF and also kung wala ang luxury of time like docu or weddings, Sony is the clear winner. Nice review as always! Also congrats on the wedding!
I like that you talked about lens noise. I'm always concerned about lens noise, because I want to be able to use a lens for video, and even if the noise is not real loud, you can hear the lens noise, if you are using the built-in microphone, or a microphone on top of the camera, because the lens is close to the microphone. I watched two videos about the Samyang 50mm 1.4F FE II lens before I watched your video, and they did not talk much about the lens noise.
I personally own one man, and let me tell you, I have my microphone on top of my camera, not once did I hear my copy of the Samyang make noise. Not in my broll, not on interviews or even when I'm taking pictures. I don't know what this dude is talking about, seems he increased the volume of the test too.
Exactly. Too many examples of people saying they had to buy 4 copies of Samyang lenses to get a good one. I like the way Samyang lenses render but it's just too much of a lottery whether you will get good copy. Also this new lens seems slightly disappointing compared to their 85mm which I believe has better focusing motors, rather than the stepping motor used in the new lens.
Nice video, if you want budget frindly get a 55 1.8 second hand, and if you have the money go for the sony ( or wait till Sigma relase the 1.2 ). I am missing KL i had great time at ALoft hotel there a few years ago. Can't wait to shoot a video there soon.
U said u r using one of these lenses for posting on social media, u can't be serious. Light weight and cheap while being almost as good as sony, Samyang is the one to go for
@@DanboxingPH then you haven't been shooting for a long time, because that isn't what I'd call a noisy focusing system by any stretch of the imagination. Try an SLR non-usm lens from the 90's to hear what a lens can do 😁
I couldn’t find a person doing this, but with the Zeiss 55 instead. People checking on Samyang is very unlikely are thinking on the GM but on the zeiss. Zeiss can be found around 600 in mint condition . Samyang 50 1.4 ii is a better lens than zeiss 55?… maybe we will never know🤷🏻♂️😔
Samyang AF 50 1.4 II FE is better than 55 1.8 (1/3 stops faster, better AF, and less fringing). I currently use Samyang and previously shot 55 f1.8. Obviously, if money is no object, 50GM is the best 50mm I have ever used.

That a useful point of view , thanks
Is the autofocus fast?
Who uses the in camera mic for video? I never have.
Great video buddy. One small note. 1.4 -> 1.2 is not a stop of light. 1/2 or 1/3 of a stop. But, I know what you mean, on the lens it a physical stop.
