Interesting choices ! A good, not expensive overdrive pedal is the Fender Hammertone Overdrive. There are a lot of tones in it and one bonus with this pedal is the "hidden" potentiometer inside the pedal which controls the brightness. Cheers John.
I bought the little one a couple months ago and I'm really blown away by some of the sounds I'm getting. I haven't even gotten into the new effects yet.
I'm absolutely loving my Soldano SLO Super Lead Overdrive Pedal in purple I got a few weeks back. Bit pricey? Probably. But, as I use single coils mainly playing Strats and a Tele, the deep switch and presence controls enable tones that are other level.
Julianna as a sweet Chorus tone. Halo Dual Echo Delay Pedal, AT!! Strymon Cloudburst for ambient. Falling back in love with my POD GO. The new HX Stomp stuff is also so 🔥 I’m looking into purchasing this year a Tonex One, from Sound Of Justice FX, I recently purchased a Son Of Ben, it is so so good as an overdrive with my Solo Dallas Storm Pedal, Solo Dallas just released the SVDS Boost which its another gorgeous sounding 🎸 pedal which I plan to get in the future too… Finally, 💥 3 years later, the ERAS Distortion is still the best pedal…..
OK, I'll go left field 😮 My favourite pedal purchase this year has been the Paintaudio Midi Captain. Now I can change guitar sounds, vocals and lights all with one switch. It's made my gear so much more 'live' friendly 😊
This year, the Vemuram Butter Machine and the Shanks ODR1 are the best drives I ever tried and are happy they are on my board. Otherwise, got back into the HX stomp and it is quite a bit better than I remembered.
Love the Angry Driver, may have to get one. The Super Overdrive has been a longtime favorite of mine. It reminds me of early 90s when I was trying to get away from distortion and stuff that covered up my sloppy playing. The SD-1 was a wonderful alternative. Probably never sounded better through the rig then when I used that. (Rig was a Ampeg V4 and V4 4x12). May favorite this year has also been the Nano Cortex. It's very useful and a good backup plan for gigs also. I haven't really bought as many pedals this year until that one. Bought my son an EQD Aurelius and it is a great modulation pedal.
Walrus 385 mk2, unique film projector overdrive that isn't quite like anything else, except a film projector amp. Walrus Voyager mk1 or mk2, awesome klon clone with multiple diodes, and a mid parametric EQ Source Audio Colldier - amazing reverb and delay
ive ordered a tonex one pedal. should arrive soon. perhaps that'll be my fave pedal. i've enjoyed the sonicake matribox, mvave ir box, and mosky spring reverb. with my cost of living crisis pedalboard. with how discounted the tonex one pedal was this week, its bordering qualification for cost of living crisis pedalboard.
I'm going with the Boss GX10. Nearly all of Boss' effects and algorithms in one pedal, 15 blocks at a time, low latency amp models. Perfect for practice or sitting on your desktop next to your recording station. Also budget friendly.
I'm surprised not to see the Browne Carbon X on here. I'm pretty sure you demoed it this year, and I think it's still on your board unless I missed something. I'm guessing it's because you put the Bluesbreaker reissue on the list, and it's basically like two of those, but slightly worse?
@johnnathancordy My sub box has been flooded non stop with guitar influencers trying to sell me the Nano Cortex for like 3+ weeks at this point. WE GET IT
@johnnathancordy ENGL, Fender, Boss amps. In the US Bluesbreaker RI is $200 which is double many great drives so it's hard to justify. Unless an amp seems special or one I've wanted for years I'd spend on parts and time to mess with building amps at this point.
In the video, he asks us to write our favorite pedals in the comments, but I wonder what the point is since he doesn’t read the comments and never replies. I’ve asked questions many times, and they’ve always gone unanswered. It’s the same for others when I look at the comments alongside mine.
Alex, if you really want me to answer, you'd be better off emailing, I do try to read comments but since I upload frequently, I don't get a chance to see them all, let alone respond, but yeh the idea is for other folks to share with others their favourites, normally can gauge pedals that are getting well loved from there? Again apologies - but yeh I'd get told off by the wife if I replied to all of them
@@johnnathancordy Alright, thanks for the reply. In that case, I’ll try reaching out via email. There was a particular video that caught my interest, and I was even ready to subscribe to Patreon just for it. The one where you ask whether pedal manufacturers are ripping us off. I really love the solo you played, but I couldn’t find it on Patreon. So, I was wondering if you’ve shared the tablature and backing track somewhere.
Don't know when they came out, but my best pedal purchases in a long time is the HALO and CRAZY TUBE CIRCUITS CROSSFIRE. Really want to get the Unobtanion next, but I need a fuzz more than anything.
The pedals I've enjoyed the most this year - I know there's a bias toward recent releases on youtube obviously, but I think most of this stuff is pretty evergreen? In any case, the Origin Effects Deluxe 55 Tweed, Fractal VP4, Nanocortex, UA Enigmatic ODS, FWW Barber BUSS, (SD1 had a 50th anniversary edition) are all 2024 releases, no?
My pedal of the year is the QC. NDSP just does something right with their pitch shifting; it's fast, accurate, low latency, so it's much better than Fractal's Virtual Capo, and due to it's light DSP requirements, I can have two on at once with little to no noticeable latency (I play Black Hole Sun, so I have to uptune 1 half step with the Transpose, then add a pitch shifter to go down 25 cents, since the song is 75 cents sharp but no single block will do that). It's just been great all around, plus adding the plugins? Granted, there's only four on it so far, but more are coming. I haven't used any of my closet full of individual guitar pedals in years, but the QC bested the Helix and the Fractal :)
Thanks for the shout out John! Btw, we’re going to have more of the higher gain/ultra dynamics BUSS pedals in the near future.
Interesting choices ! A good, not expensive overdrive pedal is the Fender Hammertone Overdrive. There are a lot of tones in it and one bonus with this pedal is the "hidden" potentiometer inside the pedal which controls the brightness. Cheers John.
TONEX for me. The addition of the effects have made it pretty much perfect for my needs.
I bought the little one a couple months ago and I'm really blown away by some of the sounds I'm getting. I haven't even gotten into the new effects yet.
POD Express is #1 for me.
VP4, Halo Core, Octa PSI, Zoma, & Owen Barry Boost pedal are all stand outs.
I'm absolutely loving my Soldano SLO Super Lead Overdrive Pedal in purple I got a few weeks back. Bit pricey? Probably. But, as I use single coils mainly playing Strats and a Tele, the deep switch and presence controls enable tones that are other level.
The BAATSIN is surprisingly good. Changed my opinion of cheap pedals. I’ve been gigging/recording with it a little over a year.
Joyo Taichi does the fusion sound and feels much more refined than early Joyo pedals.
Julianna as a sweet Chorus tone.
Halo Dual Echo Delay Pedal, AT!!
Strymon Cloudburst for ambient.
Falling back in love with my POD GO.
The new HX Stomp stuff is also so 🔥

I bought and sold about 15 pedals this year. Ended up back on the HX Stomp with a Xotic SP and Blues Driver or Tube Screamer. It’s all I need.
OK, I'll go left field 😮 My favourite pedal purchase this year has been the Paintaudio Midi Captain. Now I can change guitar sounds, vocals and lights all with one switch. It's made my gear so much more 'live' friendly 😊
That sounds ambitious! Does that work reliably?!
Absolutely. It's all set up on one pedalboard, one of those Harley Benton powered ones, works a treat.

The midi pedal switches snapshots on an HX Stomp XL, vocal patches on a Boss VE500 and I use a DoreMidi Midi to DMX converter to run the lights.
For me it’s been the Spline Laboratories Cathedral. It’s been my favorite fuzz I’ve used
I've really enjoyed the Custom Tones: Ethos Clean Fusion Deluxe.
Great riff on the Deluxe 55 !
They keep releasing more and more pedals, but still nothing beats the Big Muff.
This year, the Vemuram Butter Machine and the Shanks ODR1 are the best drives I ever tried and are happy they are on my board. Otherwise, got back into the HX stomp and it is quite a bit better than I remembered.
I just grabbed a used Butter Machine as my Ibanez SD9 is cooked....The Shanks ODS is absolutely cracking! Good choices

They have a pretty good Black Friday deal on Thomann, I think they’re about £120 new
For Helix folks the Angry Driver does patch two of the gaps in the helix - Marshall Guvnor and Boss Blues Driver tones - two birds with one stone etc
Walrus 385 mk2, unique film projector overdrive that isn't quite like anything else, except a film projector amp.
Walrus Voyager mk1 or mk2, awesome klon clone with multiple diodes, and a mid parametric EQ
Source Audio Colldier - amazing reverb and delay
I demoed that one actually!
That Deluxe55 pedal is really something.
Jackson Audio Twin Trem has been my favorite pedal of 2024 thus far.
You gotta get the SD-1w. The high end is a lot smoother and it has a lot more low end.

Origin Effects DCX Boost is my pedal of the year! It’s amazing
For me it’s the wampler triumph got it used for 65 bucks at guitar center and it’s been my go to for crunchy tones since.
That's a steal - the Wampler stuff looks to be very well made!
I've been really impressed with the ross distortion, only had it for a few weeks now but it's super super versatile, way more so than I was expecting.
JNC posts so often that I wonder if he could consider either becoming a web cam or a reality TV star?
I think I'll just stick to this
Look after yourself, you are setting yourself a very demanding work load. Hope it doesn’t feel too much like work.
origin deluxe 55 and vahlbruch khaluna II best pedals in 24 in my opinion😊

Enough with the Nano Cortex for the love of God
What's wrong with the Nano Cortex?

JB 2 is analog ?
Cowboy king 😎💪
Just ordered one🎉
@briane.paulson get ready for .... serious blues tone👍🎸💪
GTO is a special low gain pedal.
Hello Kitty Fuzz! 😹
Bought more amps than pedals this year. I want Shin-Ei stuff and Marshall BluesBreaker but too expensive.
What amps?! The Bluesbreaker was only £111 on thomann today when I checked

LOVE the Halo, I bought a Crossfire for a friend in the US - he loves it!
What do you think about the JHS ross reissue run? Those came out recently let me know
I'll get back to you
Most of the pedals have nothing to do with 2024 other than just being available...

Okay. Go buy some then.
