I belong to a community garden where I have a large trellis for my climbing peas. But the top of the trellis is a 2x4, which I have my 2 liter bottles attached. I have a drawing of an Owl on each one with the inscription "Who Birds". Stopped by the garden at night while the wind was blowing good, stopped engine and you could hear the "Who Birds" who-ing. I'm sure all the neighbors will appreciate the mystery sound from the park :) I plan on adding to the bottom of the top rail, several fishing lines stretched. Should prove to be interesting.
ive just started researching these for sake of building my own. so far what i understand is that the boxes are buffers to isolate the wire. if you cut a hole in the box it will act like an acoustical amplifier, much like the 'box with a hole' that we call an acoustic guitar.
@bassling I don't understand, how does putting a box between some wires produce a sound when the wind blows? Seems like the wires should be in the box or mounted to the box. Please make a how to video.
How about editing out that demon squeal at the very beginning so that people who have their speakers set above ridiculously-low can still hear afterwards?

This sounds really creepy, totally dig it, haha. Do they make different sounds depending on the size of the bottle?
Yes that would affect the way that the soundwaves move.
Yes, the size of the bottle and the size of the slit.
I would love to know how to make the bottle organs
No worries! Cut a slit at least 5cm long and 8-18mm wide into a round vessel.
how long in inches? I'm not familiar wit cms etc. Ho wide open must the slit be?
You're going to have to google it.
great vids bassling, thanx for sharing .. is it really that simple to make a wind organ ? love to give it go.. any tips or advice ?
So sorry it's taken a decade, but I've just posted a tutorial video.
Forget wind chimes. These are better.

@hufarted That's funny, that's just what I was thinking. Haha!
