Long time no see everyone! 😁 Sorry for the silence. Making videos during COVID and with a 1 year old son has its challenges, but Keiji and I are very happy to be back in action! 💪
This was the cutest and most sincere video I've seen all year. And I've clocked MANY hours of youtube watching. I'm going to show this to my 7 year old hiking son who is ready to take on Fuji. If you ever want to hike in Arizona, USA and need a host family/guide - message me! Matane!
Very nice adventure, Dean and Keiji! Dean, thank you for being such a positive influence on Keiji and helping him grow into a very polite, well-rounded young man! Keep up the good work!
So happy to see the both of you again! It brought a huge smile to my face after a very difficult day:) Keiji is growing up so fast. Much love to the both of you !!!! WOW, what an incredible view, one day I'll make it there.
Welcome back Dean, we miss you here, and it’s great to see Keiji, miss you both. Great job on the climb👍🏼 am really happy have you back hopefully, got tired of watching your reruns😅
I enjoyed watching you and Keiji hike. I am planning to visit Japan and hike Mount Fuji this summer. This was quite informative and also at the same time light hearted. Thank you 🙏
Congratulations Keiji! Now you know that you can succeed in doing very difficult things, and that is a wonderful life lesson. We missed you, too, Dean :-)
Great job guys! Keiji you’re an amazing kid, congrats on making it to the top. You can do anything now! Great narration too, you guys are so fun to watch and make me glad I’m watching and not climbing, because I’d never make it past the parking lot (haha). Keep up the good work 💜💜
Hi, Dean, and runAway Japan members, long time no see, and thank you so much for this amazing video 🤩🇯🇵. Finally your lovely Keiji climbed Mt. Fuji by himself with you. Sounds awesome 👏 Well done Keiji 👏👏🤩And thank you so much for the greatest Information about climbing Mt.Fuji in this lovely and beautiful video. 🗻I hope many tourists come to climb this magnificent mountain after COVID. Thank you 😍🙏🇯🇵
Really loved your video and have been thinking about it often since first seeing it last year. Will be taking my own daughter up the Subashiri trail next month and we’re just getting everything ready as we prepare to leave London. Your accounts have been super helpful and super enjoyable. We decided to stay in a hut (I suspect I’ll get nauseous up there) but you’ve helped convince us that it’s fine to do all our climbing in daylight and watch the sun rise from the 7th station rather than the summit.
So happy the video helped Itakahashi3802! The thing is with Fuji, your so high by the 7th Station that the sunrise and the view when clear is already totally spectacular. It doesn't change so much by gaining any more altitude. Take your time and have an amazing trip! 😊
There's a different vibe to mount Fuji hiking it during the day 😎☀️, definitely worth working up a sweat for that breathtaking view at the peak and the sea of clouds below. Nice to see you two back on trail, hope all's been well over the past year 😊.
Loved the video! My husband and I plan on hiking Mt. Fuji and we're debating on bringing our 6yr old, since I've been over loaded with more horror stories about altitude sickness with littles than really any positive experiences hiking fuji with kids. So it was great seeing someone have a great experience with their child hiking up Fuji. Do you have any tips or recs for hiking with kids? He regular hikes with us but this would be his highest peak if we decide to take him.
Thanks Cheyenne! I hope you go for this during summer. Just give yourselves plenty of time. If you want some peaks to build up to it, check out the playlist 'videos with Keiji', with plenty of other peaks with about 2,000m in altitude. Good luck!
Great video Dean. Are all the trails connected by the same stations? Or do each one have their own stations? In addition on the descent does the path lead you to the same stations as the ones you encountered on the way up? The reason I ask is for the walking stick stamps at each station. If I miss one on the ascent because I start too early or if I just don't want to stop at the moment can I go get it on the way down? Also your step son is adorable. Keep up the good work!
There are four different trails to fuji summit. Each have their own station location very different from each other. Yoshida trail is the most popular and offers stamping at each resting area. I'm not sure if other trail does this.
Hi gourmetsportsman, I'm sorry that I totally missed this comment! I hope you understood from Tydrix that you have 4 different routes, and you can go up any of them and back down any of them. I have done 3 of them now, and have one more route to try. I agree that Yoshida is maybe the best one for collecting stamps. You can go up and down the same route and potentially pick up any missed stamps :)
Hi K-MTB. There are 4 routes up Fuji. Yoshida is probably the easiest and Gotemba is the hardest. In this video we did Subashiri which is also a fairly easy hike compared with the Gotemba or Fujinomiya trails. Check this out for some more info... www.fujisan-climb.jp/en/trails/index.html
My husband and I are doing this trail in a few weeks, starting from the 5th station. How long did it take you to complete the return trip as we are also going to attempt in one day. Thank you :)
Hi Danielle. I believe our round trip was about 10 hours. Up in about 5 hours (which is very quick), stopped for up to an hour and down in about 4 hours (fairly slow). You have to start really early for the 1 day climb, but if a 8 year old can do it, so can you 😁
im planning to do day climb to peak, are there public transportation from 5th station back to tokyo after 7pm bec i may not be able to finish it before 5 pm. Thanks for any input?
Thanks for the comment. My gut feeling would be, no there would not be, but it's better to visit the official website and even contact them if you have such questions. I would hate to mislead you. www.fujisan-climb.jp/en/
Hi Polaroid Love, sorry I missed your comment! There are trees on Fuji. There's a whole forest in fact around the lower altitude, but once we reach a few thousand meters, the ground is all volcanic rock. I imagine the altitude and the soil make it very difficult for anything to grow here.
Hi rocketraccoon86, we started our day nice and early around 5am. By the time we had moved from the hotel, parked, taken the 1st bus to the start of the hike, it was about 7am to start hitting the trail.
Hi Dean, I'm sorry to trouble you but I hope you read this in time to answer my question. I looking to summit fuji on 8/2 and looking for accommodations at Subaru 5th station on 8/1. I can only find Fujikyu Unjyokaku as an option and it seem there is no availability. In fact I can't find any availability for any date I put in. Are they completely booked or they don't take any reservations until the establishment opens back up in late April? Also are there any options other than Fujikyu Unjyokaku? In case all accommodations are fully booked at Subaru 5th station, I will consider this route, the Subashiri Route. It looked like you took the bus early in the morning to reach the trail head. Where did you spend the night? I hope you or someone who read this can help. Thank you in advance.
Hope my video helped a little Tydrix. I had a car, so it was easy for me to stay nearby and travel to the road station in the morning. From that point I could use the bus service. Around Gotemba or Lake Yamanaka, there are so many hotels and that's fairly close to where you need to be in the morning. That worked for us. I don't know the facilities of Fujikyu Unjyokaku. Certainly if you could sleep there, you'd be more than an hour ahead of the pace of Keiji and I. Try dropping them an email or call? You have some time yet :) Hope that's somewhat helpful! Let me know how you get on!
@@runAwayJapan Thank you for your reply! Yes, I really enjoyed this video. Watched it once myself and a 2nd time with my wife. It seems like Fujikyu Unjyokaku is not operating until reopening closer to the hiking season. I'm being convinced of the Subashiri route. Yes the Yoshida route will be fun but it's like the disneyland of Fuji hike. If I have good timing, I can do the Subashiri route during the day and enough time to go to Tokyo in the evening. Did you spend at least 30 minutes at the start of the trail to acclimatize to the elevation? Everywhere online recommends it, especially if I'm starting my day close to Gotemba station.
@@Tydrix I think the Subashiri route is nice. It starts on the forest and makes a nice change to the barren landscape of Fuji that will be most of the hike. Far less people than Yoshida too. Keiji and I probably had 10 minutes eating a little before we set off, thats all. I have never felt altitude sickness on Fuji and I haven't seen many effected by it either. I think you'd have to be quite unlucky to get hit by altitude sickness. Everyone is different though of course. Certainly I wouldn't bring oxygen...that seems like overkill to me.
@@runAwayJapan Seriously thank you for replying to my messages. I’ll give the Subashiri route heavy consideration over the Yoshida route. Of course you didn’t have altitude sickness. Dean, I’ve see your runaway videos, you’re in amazing shape lol. I’ve hiked 3k mountains before and going to another one in 2 weeks, but not taking Fuji for granted. As long as I take the normal precautions, I should be okay. Thanks again for your input.
Long time no see everyone! 😁

Awesome! Good to see a day hike up Mt Fuji. What awesome views.
Not enough people do the day hike. It's totally possible and super worth it too! 😀
My husband and I are climbing it in August!
Wow! first here! awesome video!!!
I love your content! Thank you for sharing! My husband and I are going to hike it during the day without staying on the mountain.
Thanks, Nadine! I’m so glad that it helped you make that decision ☺️

Ha ha, yeah, if your OK with the extra weight, do it! Well maybe stick to 3L max actually, unless your planning to set up a little shop at the top 😄
