- Dongrang is my personal favorite antagonist throughout all of Limbus Company so far. Him alongside Canto IV as a whole still is one of the highest highs for me, and while his time in the spotlight may be short, he feels ironically unforgettable. He also helps emphasize some of the core themes of his own literary origins' writings and summarizes the sad history of a creator who lost touch with his creations.
Apologizes again for my poor Korean pronunciation. I already have a problem with names and learning I have been reading his name wrong all this time made it hard to change. Hopefully I can be forgiven!

Some corrections I want to make, firstly two people have already pointed it out already but the Hangul for Dongrang 동랑 in the name section was accidently switched out with Samjo's 삼조. Apologizes for this mistake I can see where I made the error in the script itself and used that text to carry it over into the actual video.
Now the more major thing, the pronunciation of Dongrang's name, I had for the longest time believed that it was Dongrang as written, though in the process of making the video I had looked the names pronunciation and got what I had for the this video. When check the games audio for confirmation on this I used Samjo as reference, specifically the Samjo announcers. The way he said Dongrang's name during some of his lines had me believe the pronunciation I had was correction, if a bit rough. I am seeing that I may have been wrong on this call on my part and I apologize for my error here. Pronunciation is one of my weaker areas and I am very unfamiliar with Korean as a language so I assumed I was wrong in my initial understanding. I hope this error does not spoil the whole video for you, but I understand if it does.

It made me bug for a second but it didn't ruin the video for me I still find it incredibly interesting and I'm still thankful for you introducing me to PM and Limbus.
Meti, did you use Google Translate for the Korean pronunciation of Dongrang? I can see how you heard a "P" sound instead of a "D" sound if that was your source, since the machine voice can sound really iffy. I went back and checked Samjo's voice lines and it very clearly sounded like "Dong-lang" there.

Got a correction for you: that scene where he “returns home” and discovers the calf no longer recognizes him isn’t something that actually happened, it’s a scene that takes place in his head right before he gains his EGO. The whole speech he gives, with the “I’ll get a new secretary” (since Samjo just took the swan dive) and the observation notes confirm this. “(…)Doing so, he must have faced the yellow calf that had been weighing his heart down in his mind...and killed it.” It’s Dongrang realizing how much he’s changed into a monster, and resigning himself into fully becoming the man he knows he is.

What you do is simply create another choice of your own free will detached from carmen's pure influence.
In short, EGO is paving a path in your own will and the choices you make doesn't have any ties with morality itself.
There’s a distinction made between EGO and distortion in the Leviathan novel. Distortion is when one has their body mix with their emotions/heart, while EGO is when one’s humanity is emphasized and they treat their emotions as a tool to be used. Basically, the former treats one’s emotions as their entire self, that they are what they feel themselves to be, while the latter prioritizes rationality, with one’s emotions being something separate from their self that’s to be used for their own benefit.
Much of the work during this time was particularly influenced by the harsh censorship that the writers had to operate under in order to publish their works. This is part of the reason why Yi Sang's work "The Wings" is notable, because those stories somewhat obfuscated their meaning while being apparent when reading between the lines within the context of the times how it felt to live under Japanese occupation.
In order to perform a play at this time it's described in Korean Drama Under Japanese Occupation that all plays had to have their scripts reviewed and their performances monitored by the police. So with that in mind, Yoo Chi-jin likely could not have operated as a playwright very well or even at all without capitulating to the Japanese colonial establishment. This figure of the Farmwatch, a position at the time used to keep farmers in line, then takes on additional meaning in his EGO where his own ambitions in pursuing his career are subverted to keep others in line.
I think Project Moon's portrayal communicates a much more nuanced picture than the somewhat flattened image of a traitor that is commonly mentioned when bringing up his real life counterpart. As a result he definitely makes the basis for an excellent villain, and I compliment you on your taste mentioning him as your favorite. Because of his real life counterpart's complicated history though, we're probably never getting that Farmwatch ID. Cope and seethe.
Like yes Dongrang (the real one) was just Doing As He Was Told, but I think we've established that isn't a viable defense.
Meanwhile the one in Limbus Company called the cops on his "friends" because of an internal dispute, then arranged the brutal slaughter of Sinclair's entire town in canto 3, then took a technology that could SEE ALL OF REALITY and used it mostly to make a baby cry more. And, most importantly, he made canto 4 around seven stages longer than it had to be. And that I can't forgive.
Not sure if I see the Drifting Fox connection. Drifting Fox description, as well as some of it's attacks and the lines from the EGOs seem to emphasize the fact that while the Fox had become wary and distrustfull of others due to them leaving it alone after helping it, the Fox still sought genuine affection, clinging onto the hope that someone will eventually come to help it with genunine kindess. Yi Sang also clung to the smallest bit of hope when leaving N Corp. Not saying that there is no connection, of course, but just that I cant see it.
Also worth noting the Bull's status "Unresolved Sorrow", which I do think ties very well into Dongrang as he had been trying to fill himself with "vanity" (as the fights put it) rather than process his emotions in some other way
Drifting Fox the Abno yes, it is more closely related to Yi Sang and Dongbaek, but I was more so referring to the story which the Abno originates from.
@@MetiNotTheBadGuy Well, the fact that the Abnormality is not classified as one Originating from a Fairy Tale/Folklore makes me think that the original tale wasnt that big of an inspiration when it comes to the themes the abnormality represents, but that's open for interpretation.
Hell, Red Shoes is 100% based in that one tale and yet it counts as an Original abnormality (though it's connections to the story arent that strong beyond a few lines here and there)

My favorite part about Dongrang as a villain is how he never really acts like it. Even as a twist villain he never actually "snapped" even as he distorts he never fully lost his demeanor
We *know* of his villainous actions and personality, but even when he's "revealed" to be the villain he still acts like the good person he was in the past
The scene where the calf no longer recognize him is symbolic of how much he's changed as a person, but at least to me his outward personality from the flashbacks to how he is today never drastically changed, only his goals and desires
It's like he lost his sense of self in a way that even his personality no longer belongs to the old Dongrang, the good person he was had been slowly buried under his new self working at KCorp, the way people perceives and knows him has been hijacked by his ambition, his desires, his actions, and his gluttony

Dongrang is probably one of the most common type of human in the city or in our world in general.
Imagine yourself in his shoes, a person with a normal hobby in which one can find satisfaction only to find a deeper and more ambitious way of using that hobby.
However, just as much as it was a hobby. The more grandeur it could be, the more *attachment* you put into it.
And with it comes severe consequences once that is taken away from those who once had it.
Creativity is a gift as well as a curse, most people often think that those given by it are truly people beyond their own capacity but they tend to forget that those gifted also loses something in return for gaining it.
The lines you brought up from Fly My Wings, I thought those were Sang Yi watching Yi Sang. He saw him go from the bright eyed inventor to a man with nothing who rotted away. Yi Sang was also able to keep inventing even if it wasn't solely for inventing's sake, yet still fell into depression. The people locking him down were those using his inventions for bad things, and he himself as he kept wanting to give up for good. At the end of the song, he just wishes he could fully let go because as the song says, it'd be easier to give in to despair than keep walking forward.

I think Gregor says it as Dongrang when taking to him about his trophies, but Samjo says it a different way both throughout and his announcer. Though I am not good at pronouncing Korean so I might have slurred it a bit more then it's actually said.

The first time I was beyond tilted, and I'm never going to fight him or Baek ever again. If I see them in MD, I'm forfeiting. Dont care if I'm actually decent at the game, have plenty of IDs, and can finally read. I didn't have fun.
@@alastor8091 One thing that really helped me during the fight (and actually makes me want to do it again) is the fact that if you remove a sinner from the party being one under the max (that being 5/6 I believe) it allows sinner that you can choose to have an extra attack so it can reach 6 attacks for each id. I used this on my middle don and managed to get a just vengeance twice in a row and clashed all of his attacks. I also might've been aided by the Yi Sang immortality just letting my Ring Sang just absolutely tear Dongrang apart. Without those I'd probably be in the same boat as you since Dongbaek REALLY started to make me tilt
I hate fighting Dongran because the damned trees, like, he makes me wanted to call on every AOE ego and attacks that I have just to get rid of those trees.
And once, my biggest mistake was to fight him using Poise build, when he got 65% damage reduction and increased damage against my sinners. THAT took me like half an hour

@@lewisanimations4954 how it works is that you have 12 max slots. Every turn, someone gets a new attack slot in the order of which you picked them at the start screen. If you have 5 out of 6, one ID will eventually get 3 attacks. If you only bring 3 ID's, Everyone will get 4, if you bring 1 ID, it gets 12.

I was just hoping today that you'd come back to do more Limbus. While I understood Yi Sang's struggle, with how back loaded the story is with Canto 4 and how obtuse the dialog was, I couldn't really understand what everyone's beef was.
Also, if Dongrang's name is pronounced "Hoolong" why is it written in English as Dongrang? Same thing with Dongbaek. We can make these noises with our letters. Words and names from other languages should be spelled Phonetically. Sasuke should be "Sahskay" for example.

I think it should also be mentioned that the other abnormalities aside from Brazen Bull tie more into Dongbaek's association with the Technology Liberation Alliance, given how the EGO Equipment of Sloshing, Red Sheet, and Sunshower come from Fairy Gentleman, So That No One Will Cry, and Drifting Fox respectively, all of whom you fight in the Mirror Dungeon.

It's possible to reinvent whatever is lost, yeah.
I believe so, as Dongrang mentions to Dongbaek that she seems to want to destroy his technology now, so someone in the future can create and find their passion. The concept incinerator essentially burns away the current persons memories and connections, hence why when Dongrang destoryed his healing technology, he scarred his heart and became much less compassionate.
Think of the Concept Incinerator like making something "lost to time". We can rediscover it through a completely new means and cirumstances, even if all prior knowledge of it was destroyed.
It's not a perfect comparison as something being lost to time generally is still remembered in some way but sshh

@LTDLetsPlays Man, I get not liking someone getting information wrong in a story you love, but aren't you getting too personal about this. A few these mistakes can just be them misrembering certain scenes or just how they interpret it. Ultimaltely it doesn't really change how Dongrang is characterize in this anaylze other then perhaps making him a bit manipulative or slightly misrepresenting the TLA actions.

When I first played the mirror dungeon of canto 4 and getting a feel what was going on in the previous parts of the canto.
I really would have thougt taking the EGO gifts from the dungeon events would have a negative effect with the final boss so I refused to take them if possible.
