    I agree and will reiterate what so many others have said. This was calming and so satisfying to watch while puttering in my craft room. Garden clean up is soul soothing. I loved the peaceful sound of the wind and did not mind hearing the heavy equip backing up at all. Thanks for posting 🙂🥰

    Another thing that I LOVE about these episodes is the time to actually look around and study the different areas of your landscape and gardens. When you go actual time like this, it's easier to take in the detailed process. Thank you for realizing we needed this!! 💖

    I read a lot of the comments on here about this video and I will agree it was very calming and satisfying in one aspect. But as a new gardener I would have really appreciated an explanation as to how and where to prune/trim back the hydrangea bushes. Please help a very new gardener out and tell us how and where to prune because I too love hydrangeas and want to grow them. Thank you.

    Hi Laura and Aaron, I enjoyed watching and listening to this video. I always, always enjoy Laura’s narratives and wouldn’t want a steady diet of quiet, however I do like the occasional video to be sans music. The sounds the breeze makes and the rustling of branches being clipped, backup beeps, equipment...it’s all good. Laura, your hydrangeas will flourish and be beautiful, thanks to the care you’ve given them.

    • @mariafolch8067
      @mariafolch8067 4 роки тому

      From Google:
      Prune Invincibelle Ruby Hydrangeas in early spring, by trimming ⅓ of the total length of the branches. Never cut down to the ground. By pruning, you encourage more growth, help the stems become stronger, and help the shrub produce more flowers the coming year.
      Also, Proven Winners web page offers great advice on Hydrangeas.

  • @catwalion

    Hi thanks you for this informative video. Hydrangeas are on my list this year, it Will be à first. Doesn't blooming on old wood mean that if I cut it like you did, the blooms would be cover by leaves ? I don't really get this concept... You already explain but... 😵

    • @lighthouse739
      @lighthouse739 4 роки тому +1

      Some hydrangeas bloom on old wood, meaning the buds that produced the flowers are already there on last year's growth. If you cut those buds off then no flowers likely just leaves. Some hydrangeas bloom on new wood/ new growth, so if you cut them to size control etc. They will still bloom. Go to garden answer channel (this one is just for highlights) , in today's video she explains ... Be careful to know which one you are buying so that you know how to prune. Good luck!

    • @kimmie1957
      @kimmie1957 4 роки тому

      I think if old wood you have to trim in same year & if new wood you have up to spring to trim.. I think🥴

    • @Jack-oc2xq
      @Jack-oc2xq 4 роки тому +1

      She was cutting above a set of buds, which is what you always do when pruning anything, never cut below buds because that just leaves a dead stem that can’t grow from where you cut, down to the previous set of buds, so always above a bud, about 1/2 and inch above

    Once I was told cut back to the ground in the fall. I did and next year no blooms, good growth and leafs. The following year I only had a few blooms? This winter I dead headed and left all sticks/branches just sticking up all winter. Now do i just leave alone or cut back like you did? My hubby said even with this try I have a brown thumb🥺

    • @mariafolch8067
      @mariafolch8067 4 роки тому +1

      Dwarf hydrangeas are usually bushy and well-shaped, and don't require regular pruning, but you might want to give a plant a trim to improve its appearance or remove damaged branches.

    • @Jack-oc2xq
      @Jack-oc2xq 4 роки тому

      Aim to cut 1/3 of the branches and try to form a nice rounded dome shape, once you start it it’s pretty much common sense, it won’t make a whole lot of difference if some stems are longer than others

    What would be a good all-purpose fertilizer to use if you have one or two hydrangeas, several spirea, some perennials, a few azaleas, and a couple of shrub roses, and don’t want to by 5 different kinds of fertilizer?

    • @mariafolch8067
      @mariafolch8067 4 роки тому

      Unfortunately, they are different types of plants and require different NPK. The best you can do if you want to be economical is to buy a fertilizer for plants that like acidic soil and another for non-acidic. She is obviously using a rose fertilizer since it is for acidic soil.

    • @mariafolch8067
      @mariafolch8067 4 роки тому

      Found in Google:
      Be sure to dig up as much of the hydrangea root ball as possible. Spring and fall are fine for planting hydrangea bushes; most sources I found recommend waiting for cooler weather andtransplanting the bushes in late fall or very early spring while the plants are dormant but the soil is workable.
