The best thing I love about watching garden answer videos as they always make me feel better. I honestly was not having a great morning so I decided to watch a garden answer video, and I feel so much better! It's like therapy 😅
I went out early, about a month ago, with two -three foot of snow still 😜, and pruned my huge strawberry vanilla panicle hydrangeas. I did it a little earlier than last year., but I had such success after pruning them late winter last year that I couldn’t resist getting out there and cleaning it up, getting it ready for a bountiful year.🤞🏻 Hopefully I didn’t go at it too early. 😬
Oh wow!! I'm in North Wales and I've been enjoying an incredible daffodil display while yours is barely started!!😮 I'll enjoy mine while it lasts (and hopefully a beautiful tulip displey), and when mine is all over, I can continue to your beautiful garden. ❤

Don’t you let the falling seeds restart new plants in your hellebores. Mine always reseed and I move them to new areas every year. I let them get a little size before moving. Very satisfying.
Hi, im after some much needed advice.. I want to plant a hydrangea but I'm not sure which variety is best for the space. I live in the UK and have a large area to fill, my dilemma is due to shade and the amount of sun it receives.. its completely shaded until about 12.30 and then only gets about 5ish (maybe slightly less) hrs of full afternoon sun so really not sure which variety is best suited. Any advice welcome
I have trouble with the arborvitae I planted almost two years ago. Pretty much only 2 out of the 10 are still green but haven't shown any growth whatsoever. I'm in GA so of course we're planting in red clay but I used biotone when first putting them in the ground so I'm not sure what else I need to do now for the last two to start seeing them grow and be healthy. Any advise you can give me would be appreciated. I see yours are doing so well and I wish for the same for mine. 😢
In New Jersey, we have very good soil (the Garden State), but bet A Lot of areas don’t need fertilizers. That said, I fertilize the annual flowers (Miracle Grow) that REALLY makes a difference in the number of flowers - I always use Miracle Grow for annual flowers (petunias, etc). 🌸
Great to see regular garden maintenance. I know you’ve done all these things before but it’s easier to see without searching through a lot of previous videos. And it reminds me what I need to do now.
I pruned my Hellebore "properly" for the first time back in January. As soon as I saw the tiny little buds peeking through, I cut out every leaf stem. I'd not done that before because in 7b mine doesn't get brown and crunchy, so I only ever cut out what looked old and tired. Within a week, maybe two, there was a bouquet of flowers coming up from the ground. And it was beautiful. ❤ The new leaves are filling in and it all looks so fresh. Thank you, Laura 😊
Thanks for saying this - mine are in full bloom now and I wasn't sure when to prune them because they seem to keep the flowers most of the year.. Guess I'll wait until next year but at least now I know when LOL
Hi Laura, hopefully Spring will continue to give you days to plant more containers into the landscape and soak up the Spring showers. Looking forward to seeing how your garden evolves and flourishes in 2023.

Hi Laura! Did you try using the cleaner that you used on the window boxes? I think a viewer sent you the cleaner and it worked really well on your window boxes. I wonder if it would work on the siding where the limelights are. 😊
Those Hydrangea flowers would make a good natural fabric dye or wood stain! Note to Laura, Would you consider planting clematis against the house to climb on trellis between the windows in this area? I think clematis work very well near the foundation of a building because, in my experience, the roots are more delicate, less likely to do damage to a structure compared to woodier plants. The vines are also delicate and light and not likely to damage the trellis or structure above ground too. Just a thought. Love everything you do and the community you have brought together. Words are not enough!
Nice pruning video, does look like garden is ready to do fresh growth viewer request...a spring veg or dessert recipe ....... soon...maybe for Easter 🐰🐸🐣🐞
Love your videos, too soon here in MI yet but I do see some of my plants waking up. Your energy is so contagious. I too have some barn cats that are just like your Russell. They follow me everywhere and spend time with me in the garden. So do my chickens! Can't wait for your planting bonanzas that will be coming soon!
Great job as always! Your gardens are so beautiful and such an inspiration. Is it possible to talk about North facing shady areas? Maybe when you redo the coop😊 We recently changed the entryway to our home and I feel like I need to add a couple shrubs that are shade tolerant, deer resistant and low maintenance. 😀 I have a list of what used to be in the space but I don’t necessarily want to replant those. I’m hoping to add Hellibore and maybe astilbe but I feel like I need a bit more structure first.
Don’t understand the attraction to a flower whose blooms point to the ground & can really only be appreciated if you manually turn them up! But while I won’t be planting Hellebores, I enjoy watching Laura do her “thing” 😁
I’ve recently gone back and re-watched your first garden tour series - when you walked us through the garden for the first time. It was such a beautiful and inspiring established garden, but looking back I understand it now, that it was missing the overarching structure and “flow”. It’s very interesting to see how you and Aaron are redesigning everything and gradually transforming the space. It showed me how I can do the same and “dare” taking out trees and hedges and making my garden to my own. It just opened up a completely new levels of gardening. Thank you!! Just curious: what happened to the Angel Statue? I don’t think I saw that in your recent videos.
At 3:01 you can see the wings of the statue peaking up just behind Laura through the lilac branches. I know she calls it an angel, but I'm pretty sure it's a statue of Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. That's a fairly classical depiction, with the wings, flowing drapery, the torch, and an unfurled scroll in hand.
Thank you so much, Laura for the wonderful garden motivation video. Fantastic job of Spring cleanup with Russell's assistance. The gardens are happy now. 🥰😻
Your property is Stunning 🌺. So Beautiful!! I Love watching & learning from your channel. My favorite flower is a Hydrangea, but I have trouble with them. I live in Utah zone 6. The front of my home faces North and I planted 3 Hydrangeas in my front yard 2 years in a row. They died each time I planted them. The past 3 years I planted “Proven Winners Hydrangeas” in my backyard. They got about 3 hours of morning sun afternoon shade and 2-3 hours of evening sun. I planted 3 and 2 survived. The next spring I replaced the one that died, it did ok last year. Now 2023 I only have one that survived. 😞 I’m so sad. Do you have any tips that might help??? Thank you for all of your beautiful videos and Amazing Information. 🦋🌺 🌱 🌞 🌿
Hello. Looking great! I just pruned my strawberry vanilla. I usually do it in the fall but thought I’d wait till spring this time. As for the side of your house, I was just wondering if you’ve tried SPRAY 9? Best cleaner I’ve ever used! Maybe give that a try if you haven’t already tried that one. Good luck!
Perfect timing! It’s the day I planned on cutting my hydrangeas back - and every year I second guess myself! I got mine on discount (they were really small and neglected) so I’m not exactly sure what type they are. One year they bloom amazing and the next I don’t get one flower 😢
Do your leg muscles ache the next day or are you so used to squatting that it doesn’t bother you? When I see you doing these projects I wonder what it would be like to do what you do. I pray for your continued great health. ❤
I personally can’t stand HEllABORES 😂 They are literally HEll. 😅 They just pop up everywhere non stop all over the flower bed and you can’t pull them up, you have to dig the whole thing up or they just keep coming back. They don’t just stay in the spot you planted them in. They multiply like the PLAGUE. 😂
You say “The hellebores look like this because I’ve waited so long to get to them”. Well….it’s not like you’ve been sitting on the porch drinking a Mint Julep!!! You’ve had a ton of projects you’ve been working on. 👍
Hellebores are my absolute favorite! I need to move mine to a different location in my garden, any advice on moving them? I’ve heard they don’t like to be moved, and I don’t want to loose any in the process. Thanks!
I have two vanilla strawberry hydrangea standards that I bought last year. They really flop a lot in our heavy rains here in Northwest Arkansas (also a 6b, but much more humid). I have followed your advice and cut them back quite a bit. I really hope they will get stronger this year. You introduced me to panicle hydrangeas several years ago, starting with the firelight tidbit. It does amazingly every year, even though it feels so brutal when I cut it back! I know you worry about repeating videos, but it is really helpful to see this several years in a row. Keep doing what you're doing! 🤩🌸👍🏻
🌺 one thing that I think helps a lot with my Hydrangeas is not cutting them back at all, or not as much. I have noticed that when I leave the old stem’s/ bark it’s kinda like a natural “tomato cage”. Leaving the old growth helps to hold up the large Blumes. It is hard not to cut them back in the spring because they don’t look nice at all. But I think it’s really given me a fuller beautiful Hydrangea. I don’t have to worry about the flowers lying on the wet ground after rain or watering. I don’t have to worry about all the bugs 🐜 crawling around on them because they are to heavy and touching the soil either. I hope this is helpful to you! :) Happy Gardening!! 🌼 🌱 🌺 🌿 🐝 🦋
Great video I remember that corner when you planted those hydrangeas. The struggle they had coming to you. They look amazing and so robust. I wish Hellebores were perennials here. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Love watching Garden Answer! You’ve reignited my joy in gardening. Thank you! I have a couple questions regarding hellebores (which I’ve never had before). If I pick up a few now from our local garden center, when should I plant them in the ground? Now or keep them in their pots until later? (We live in NE Ohio zone 6.) Also, what are some good companion plants to add with them for later-in-the-year interest?
I started watching your channel when you planted the Hydrangeas by your porch. Amazing the growth they have took on! Very winery here in Utah and below freezing at night. The primrose are trying hard though. Thanks for gearing me up for what is coming soon, SPRING!
I went to my parent’s house last weekend and had no clue my dad had SO many hellebores! Probably thousands in the garden. He said he planted a few and they’ve just naturalized over the past 10 years. I was shocked, since they cost about $25 for a one gallon pot at my local garden centers. Needless to say I will be coming prepared with pots to take some back with me next time I visit mom and dad 😬
@@amysgardenstead2879 wow! That’s a gold mine you’re sitting on Amy haha! If you need a little side hustle to bring in a little extra mad money, you could probably start a little Etsy business selling the babies for $10 a pop! 😂
@@amysgardenstead2879 I love the idea of donating them to the local garden club sale! I take extras to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore near me when I have extras from dividing, seedlings, etc.
@@amysgardenstead2879 my hellebores (in the U.K.) produce so many seedlings every year too, maybe I need to start potting them up instead of treating them as weeds 😂
Hellebores are evergreen in the U.K. but I always remove the leaves as soon as the new flower buds start to appear; the blooms look so much better without the distraction of last year’s tatty leaves
Thanks for the refresher course on pruning. I’ll be getting my garden pruning started very soon. My yard gets very wet, so it impedes my work plan a bit. It’s so exciting to see new budding and growth. I have to watch what my visitors are up to (squirrels, rabbits, and deer) 😊
Laura: Pruning Hyrdranias and talking about how the daffodils haven't come up yet Me: Being inspired by Laura and go out with a SNOW shovel to see if after my first time planting daffodils, tulips and allium this fall actually survived. 🎉🎉🎉Surprise happy bulbs growing through the 4-5 inches of snow we still have on the ground in my gardens!!!😂 I live along the MidCoast in Maine Zone 5b and after a random and rare winter season of -20° Temps I didn't think anything, my hydrangeas, butterfly bushes, peonies or bulbs survived. Quick question, has anyone had luck with seeing blooms on your hydrangeas in the late fall early winter? Was I supposed to pluck those blooms so it would know it was supposed to go to sleep (because I didnt😅)? I see the blooms still intact on the plant now in March and they look brown on the outside and a little green peeking out. Do I prune those stems like in the video, they are called Endless Summer Hydrangeas from the big box stores?
I think I am living my best hellebore life here in NC. We have two different beautiful pink hellebores but sadly don’t know their varieties. But they gave us dozens and dozens of babies!!! I dug some up and potted them up and they are doing great! I didn’t know they reseeded 😮 we have a ton of deer so these are a blessing 😊
The best thing I love about watching garden answer videos as they always make me feel better. I honestly was not having a great morning so I decided to watch a garden answer video, and I feel so much better! It's like therapy 😅

They just pop up everywhere non stop all over the flower bed and you can’t pull them up, you have to dig the whole thing up or they just keep coming back. They don’t just stay in the spot you planted them in. They multiply like the PLAGUE. 😂
How satisfied with the stone wall are you and Aaron? Very Inspiring 🌱 video! I’m ready for warmer weather! 😊
Zone 8 a, coastal N.C. hellebores are mostly over. Hydrangeas are pushing new growth.
Always great getting a refresh on tasks to do in the spring. I'm in zone 5b and about a month behind you.
Terrific instruction on pruning and the blooms on the hellebores are so pretty too.
You say “The hellebores look like this because I’ve waited so long to get to them”. Well….it’s not like you’ve been sitting on the porch drinking a Mint Julep!!! You’ve had a ton of projects you’ve been working on. 👍
We just put a yard stick in our snow in the yard and we still have 23”. Seems sooo long before we can plant.
Very satisfying to watch everything as you tidy them up, and of course Russell. 🧡
Awesome!! i hope spring will develop soon so everything is blomming again and lots of green.
Things are looking good, Laura 🥰. My hydrangea and hellebores are still under some snow. 😑
Hellebores are my absolute favorite! I need to move mine to a different location in my garden, any advice on moving them? I’ve heard they don’t like to be moved, and I don’t want to loose any in the process. Thanks!
Love this !!..
will you be doing anymore dry flower bouquets? I miss seeing these bouquets from all seasons your so creative!
It is insane how far behind you all are with this cold and wet spring. Mother Nature, you just never know!
Good morning all have a safe and blessed day 🥰
you too!
So enjoy your videos. I've been gardening all my life(77) and am still learning from you. Question, are those baby hellebores scattered about.
So great to see you out in the garden……in the sunshine 😊
Mine spread like weeds and I end up composting hundreds of babies. Next year I will pot them up for the local garden club sale.
Laura: Pruning Hyrdranias and talking about how the daffodils haven't come up yet
Me: Being inspired by Laura and go out with a SNOW shovel to see if after my first time planting daffodils, tulips and allium this fall actually survived.
Spring and flowers are coming so soon. It’s always do exciting.
I love your concrete pineapple. Where’d you get it? 🍍
Love that orange and white striped Catabore that you have in this location
Looks so fresh and tidy, Russell loves his mama😂
Wondering how you deal with all the ‘babies’ the hellebores drop and go to seed?
Any chance you guys would put out a blooper video? I would love to see some of the less than ideal takes 😊 surely you have some
Have you tried using Simple Green for the stains on your house. It’s our go to outdoor cleaning.
Have you tried magic eraser on your white stained siding? Works wonders on lots of things.
Always love seeing you clean up. Gets me motivated even though Northeast Ohio has been chilly and wet too. Russel sure loves his momma.
Hi Laura, Have you tried Simple Green on the Hydrangea bloom stain on the siding?
