This Maori "Waiata" (song) from Aotearoa (New Zealand) is an "Oriori" - a chant, song or lullaby sung for children by their parents or extended family. It tells of the child's ancestry and is intended to honor the young one while encouraging a continuation along the path of life.
The music was also used between 1980 and 1994 to signal the end of the broadcast day for TVNZ for the iconic "Goodnight Kiwi" on Channel 1 and 2.
