My man... If someone walks out their door while you're trying to distribute flyers you are an honest American looking for honest work there's nothing to be ashamed of hold your head high! 👍👍👍🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Idaho painter, whats your fav thing to paint? Mine is exteriors. To me an exterior is your best form of advertisement. Everybody gets to see what you can do🤗. Id rather do an exterior over anything, even if its just facia and eves. Around here most wait to long to paint so theirs usually alot of prepwork. I take the time to do the prep. Painting is 90%prepwork. And on an exterior the neighbors are watching👀. Ive done the door to door in the beginning also. Now evthing is word of mouth or people watching me paint an exterior. Heres 1 other thing i just started doing. No more business cards i print my info on pens and hand them out. Evbodylikes the pens and they get passed around. Cards get thrown out. Its working well so far.
When I first started my company I walked into several rental management offices and offered my services. Now obviously most may already have current painters, but some may need a extra painting company with supply and demand. Also the plus of rental companies was quick turn arounds with empty houses or condo's and steady work. The negative was having to be more competitive with square foot pricing to lock in a job.
I run a handyman business and have been thinking about getting a box truck not only can you carry everything with you but the billboard thing is another awesome point
Thank you so much gentlemen! I am in the early stages of developing a painting company. I have painted professionally on and off for years and I’ll soon make the step of having my own company which is my primary source of income. I live in NC and currently work in a kitchen 🙄
Thank you so much for this. The postcard tip is brilliant- Id love to see a follow up on viability for your business, about to start to utilize it regardless. AGAIN, THANK YOU!!!
If I’m not mistaken, the USPS website allows you to target very specific neighborhoods with your marketing mailers. You might check that out and save you the labor of looking on GM or going door to door .
John if you’re going to be a business owner you have to get over the cringe factor of any kind of marketing. Market market market. Never stop and never think twice about it.
We don’t have to be painters to enjoy your content. I do light remodeling & handyman services, and I love watching your stuff. Keep up the great work, and more of these business type videos would be highly appreciated. Also I have a friend who just moved to Boise, I’ll Recomend you. 😉
Appreciate this video, I started a painting biz a couple of weeks ago and had no clue of how to market aside from social media. I used to print yard signs and such, but i need a job before I can do that, so door hangers/mailers will work for now. I'm lucky to have done graphic design and print for 10 years. I can create my own art, but got tired of working for "the man"
I used to pass out door hangers/flyers on inline skates back in the late 90's. I was able to pass out a lot of them faster but I used a lot more energy vs. just walking.
Direct referals from satisfied customers are the BEST way to get good clients. But you have to start somewhere and throw out a net when you are trying to grow.
I have a question, I’m about 23 minutes in and you slate mentioning warranties, do you have a video showing what you offer with your warranty and for how much and how long ETC?
I like the warranty idea. I probably would let my lawyer look over it or be careful about, be clear about what circumstances are valid and what would void it such as: Pipe behind wall busted, child added a design with crayon, wife throws nail polish remover at husband, husband ducks, hits wall and tarnishes the paint job. Took my Prov test, NASCLA Contractors business, law and project management test today.
Thanks B&K painting for the video. I also want to thank the people who comment their advice. I am going to check out the 518 Podcast too that someone mentioned below.
Great tips thank you!!! I learned most of these tips from 518 painters. He has a podcast called the I wish I knew podcast and talks about growing and marketing a painting business. It helped me so much and I am forever thankful for those, like you, who take their time to help others selflessly! Thank You and greetings from Wisconsin
I see you guys have renner paint in the back ground, how do I go about making a purchase? It seems like it’s a real chore to get a hold of it, I’m located in Illinois. As always love the information keep it coming...
@Paint Life TV I watched your live stream a couple of days ago. That with this video has encouraged me to create marketing ideas while I have down time. I went through all of my emailed quotes and created an email group, started a newsletter informing people of my companies recent updates. For example, small business insurance, new Titan airless, Pressure washing services, etc. I also did some logo design work, created t-shirts and hats and started building a store on my website. Thank you!
Florida state it doesn't require a license for painting business, only if one of your builders ask for it, if its worth it i will get it. Am sure its th same in other states.
We haven't advertised in 10 years, we use the money we save by telling customers that any jobs they get us through recommendation we'll give them between 100 and 200 dollars depending on job size, this is very effective and worth the money. Also, a great tip is foster friendships with realtors, they are networked to the hilt with customers needing paint jobs (when they sell or buy houses) and also other realtors that flip homes and need contractors.
Hey guys I'm a painter from Jackson oh. 26 years old and trying to start painting on my own. Problem is I'm broke. I'm pretty much a journeyman like you John lol. What do I do? Also, I think it would be great if y'all had a q and a video like going live on Facebook or Instagram. Love you guys! We all just love having the ability to talk to normal guys like us that are successful because normally people in your position don't wanna take time to talk to us poor folk!!!
I’m really am impressed by this in really understand how the business works and also this shows me how to get some more tips on how to go door to door marketing in much more. Again thanks 😊 #IdahoThePainter #PaintLifeMafia
@@Idahopainter Really? I would have never guessed. Thanks for that lead. Your content is helping my company grow and I can't thank you enough for what you offer us buisness owner's.
My best marketing technique is doing a great job and getting word of mouth.
@Andres Keys same here I have not advertised in 2 years of painting for myself, ill be doing this for the growth
How did you start out? As in getting your First painting job and growing it from there on?..
Thanks!
💯💯💯 always good to try to pick up new things tho
Yeah, but that's not scalable. That's where the problem is.
The number one marketing tip. "Word of Mouth." Doing the highest quality job always leads to another job.

My best marketing is just wearing clothes with paint on them lol 😂
Thank you! This is the type of information that i have been searching for, for years.
Awesome🤙

Junk mail is junk mail. Solicitation is gross. I don't use it and I will NEVER hire someone who markets like a jehovah witness.
@@chemdawgsd2146 nobody cares. You’re not a business owner so I doubt you see the value in it.

Love the videos... kinda funny because I used to live in your neck of the woods and remember seeing b&k painting vehicles.
I am new to the painting business. If I was to offer a warranty any hints on what type of warranty I should offer?
Direct referals from satisfied customers are the BEST way to get good clients. But you have to start somewhere and throw out a net when you are trying to grow.
I would like to buy those paints, the white pants at Sherwinn Williams are not comfortable lol
He kept the blooper in 😂🤣. I do that to brother 👌🍻
Yep
Im a painter in central Arkansas and found this very informative ! Thank you guys will be applying these methods asap
How do you determine how much to charge for staining/painting fences when just starting a business? Thanks!
What do you guys mean when you guys mention following up on the warranty? Thanks
Great idea on sending out post cards during a project!
post cards are 99% ignored
Now that John runs the company shouldn't his prefix change to "Master" John?

I get about 90% of my work through craigslist I'm trying to break out of it. These are some good tips.

Won't work here in NY state. Not legal to go on property and leave door hanger.

Did you have a monthly fee or something for the last time warranty?
The problem is there are many paint companies yet only so many potential jobs, the numbers aren't on a new company's side.
Great God Bless you Guys

I got a $4000 job from a yard sign.
Picking up beer at the gas station with the B&K Painting logo🤣
did you get lots of business with the door hangers?
I thought that B&K was Chris`s company. Did you sell B&K to John?
David Morais yes🤙
I need advice on training new guys
So, since you sold the company, are you painting on your own, starting a new business or nothing at all?
