Richard Wagner has got the most marvelous compositions ı have ever heard .Brilliant
my goodness he's so good.
Wagner is amazing.
this has always been one of the most touching scenes in The Ring for me
Thank god for Terfel singing Wagner 😩❤️ 🙏🙌 Love this performance.
Wonderful all: Terfel, Harding, Berliner! Super!

der Freier als ich, der Gott..."

simply outstanding!!!!Brilliant interpretation!!! With all the Wagner's power and strenght....Bravo....and in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris...
A glorious voice! not anymore!!
I feel the same. There's no emotion or anything
Ich danke inhen dafür.
Imponente!
Gut, ich liebe
MUITO🌟 INTERESSANTE🌟🌟 Sublime 🌞SAUDADES 🇵🇹
Hearing this after Frantz rendition of Wotan in Furtwanglers Die Walkure, guess im a masochist.
🤣
Wonderful!!
I think he’s a great singer but it sounds very forced when he is Wotan. For example the very last thing he sings, someone like James Morris just has a sturdy voice that just projects it, even if he’s holding back on volume, Feels like Bren is really pushing for it.
Nateofnathan Absolutely, but worth remembering Bryn didn’t always have to: he is really no longer at the height of his powers.
@@AeolianMusica One mustn't also forget the acoustics : the Musée d'Orsay isn't a concert hall, which can prove quite difficult for singers.
brilliant...
Lightning!
Ah, Hotter!
Votan immortel avec Hans Hotter...
The true Wotan was Hans Hotter.
He's no George London, but for an aging gentleman he does very well indeed.
That's for sure. Sorry but I don't think Terfel should have attempted Wotan in the first place.
His face reminds me of joaquin phoenix

George ?
Sí.
Poor Bryn. Head for Broadway.
Ma perché
@@paolagaleati152 La voce è rovinata totalmente.
Unfortunately this is a little too big for his voice. His strength was the lyrical rep not the big heavy dramatic stuff.
Terfel has done this better
That’s a great orchestra but Terfel is no Wotan...
Looks like several people including myself would disagree.
Oh poor, poor Bryn. The Di Stefano of bass-baritones.
Naw don't do Di Stefano like that lmao, wasn't my favorite but certainly amazing in his early, really early years
@Casey Franco so was Bryn. Honestly not a bad comparison.
@@lukenorvell3861 lmao now that I think about it yeah lol, although I am biased because I didn't like terfel then or now and I did like di Stefano in his early days. Still, the comparison does make sense hah
@@caseyfranco3959 bryn was fantastic in the early 90s. his 1989 recording of schwanengesang is magical. but yeah, anything after the early 2000s is not good.
Irgendwann ist Bryn Terfel falsch abgebogen. Er war so vielversprechend, jetzt ist es nur noch enttäuschend und peinlich.
Would you care elaborating your comment a bit more? I’m genuinely interested.
@@AlainWashnevskypre-2014 he was on top of the world, singing everything with lots of musicality and sensitivity. As his voice has deteriorated he has settled for just barking and belting his way through 99% of the music he sings. Its really sad. The 90s and 2000s he really was one of the best.
Terfel lacks the voice and tecnique to sing Wotan. Miscasting in optima forma. Listen to Grimsley. Now that's a Wotan!
Agree, but this is not prime Bryn. Prime Bryn sang the shit out of this.
There are a few phrases in this scene that almost no one sings well. "Du, meines Herzens..." is one of them. And, of course, the last phrase where he must sing an E vowel on a sustained high E (not represented on this shortened version of the scene). If one sings it without breathing before the E (which is optimal), it's quite difficult to get the brightness and height on the note. I've listened to many recordings of the so-called "greats'" live and studio recordings, and almost no one can do it or does it well. My problem with this performance is mostly that he doesn't seem to be interpreting the words with much understanding of what he's singing. Where's the emotion and interpretation of the subtext behind the words? And where's the dynamic interest? He sounds jaded with only the pretense of emotion. I know it's a concert, but that's no excuse. Many people who sing Wagner seem to think that every note must be sung full voice. But even Wagner's music requires subtlety in some phrases. If your technique is not quite up to par, then you have to act the hell out of it to get the audience to accept your vocal shortcomings. Maria Callas did it all the time. This is one of the most beautiful and dramatically explosive scenes in all of opera. It requires not only spectacular singing and technique to pull it off. It also requires a profound ability to communicate the inner conflict of this great character and the sublime love he has for his beloved daughter. It takes years and years of concentrated study to get this right. And when the few who can, do, then the audience certainly knows it! I've been singing this for a few years now and I certainly don't have it right yet. But sometimes one has to relax very high standards in order to experience even inadequate live performances because otherwise we may never get to enjoy the music at all in person at least.
I'll take Bryn's open and bright sound over Grimsley's overly covered wobble any day. Terfel is definitely forcing some notes here. Maybe it was a bad day? Maybe he was tired? Maybe he wasn't feeling 100%? There are so many factors that go into producing sound. No one is perfect: neither Bryn nor us. He's obviously good enough to have done the role all over the world for nearly 20 years, Grimsley, too. It comes down to a matter of taste. Should Bryn retire this role soon? Probably. But that doesn't mean it's awful.
@@operaox10 You write well yet, unfortunately, you render your writings unreadable by failure to paragraph.
He should stick to Rogers and Hammerstein - what a wasted talent
Where's the emotion? He sounds awful. This is just him struggling through one of Wagner's greatest scenes. Im Welsh and he used to be a great singer but now
A rather harsh criticism… 😊
