- In today's video Paul Drew from The Studio Rats is checking out the Aurora from Cream T Guitars. This fantastic guitar is a collaboration between Cream T Guitars and Billy Gibbons. It incoporates the best bits from a Gibson Leas Paul and a Fender Telecaster. Not only that but this guitar has the Relish Guitars Pickup swap system, this could be the perfect guitar!
Throughout the video Im using tones from my Amplified Nation pack on the Quad Cortex

Here is what Cream T Guitars say about the Aurora
This is our Aurora V2, our very latest Aurora model. It features our updated branding and some minor updates and design changes.
Our custom version of the original Aurora designed by Billy F Gibbons. We added some more traditional features including a 3 way toggle and tune-o-matic bridge and stoptail. As with the BFGT it has a chambered body but without the BFGT rout. It comes with our Cream of the Crop humbuckers as standard but can be ordered with any of our humbucker sized pickups.
We joined forces with Billy F Gibbons to design a new guitar under the Cream T Guitar brand. We have been building Billy's pickups for years, but this is the first time we've teamed up to develop a guitar. Billy's idea was to combine elements of three of his favourite guitars, into one killer guitar. The influences are clear, resulting in a new shape that ticks all the boxes: looks, playability, and balance. It was the dream collaboration, and the result was the Cream T Aurora.
The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

So glad to see the Relish style swaping still lives!
I'll get around to getting a guitar that allows swapping pups some day once i can convince the "boss" why i need yet another guitar.
Her response last time it came up was "well it looks like you could sell all of these (pointing to the best wall in the house) and just have one"........no ot really doesnt work that way 😂😂😂😂
INCREDIBLE!! I bought a set of Cream T Whiskerbuckers and installed them in the Murphy Labs Red Eye Les Paul and they made a HUGE difference in tone. Seeing this post is making me consider selling a few guitars and buying this Cream T! Thank you for your dynamic and melodic playing as well as the great the great reviews.
That piece you played at the beginning of the video is 👌🏻👌🏻
Sounds great!
Cheers Brian, hope you’re well fella!! You ok if I send you a email? Got a quick question about QC.
Paul your music always takes me to a lovely still place. Now to watch the rest of your video.
Wonderful intro, Paul. Haunting.
Those are some of the most beautiful chords that have ever been coaxed from a guitar❣️
Wow 😮 😮😮
(4:28) That pickup has the perfectly balanced crackle.
you’ve got my sub friend
Paul without doubt that is my favourite guitar you have shown on here it looks and sounds amazing 👌👌
Look great and the multiple pickup options are fantastic!
Man, that intro sounded absolutely brilliant.
Man, I really love the hot swappable pickups and that's one of the better looking versions I've ever seen! Tempting ...
Luv watching your videos Paul. Always fantastic!!!
That neck P90 sounds glorious. And the guitar isn't that expensive.
Very cool Guitar indeed mate - P90 sounds awesome!
Love the finish/colour too 😎👌
Beautiful design and killer sounds, plus awesome top and my favorite color, loved the P90 clarity and punch, great demo as usual, Paul ❤
Cheers Nabs
It looks stunning, and love this Hot swap system. I need to get my hands on one of these pretty damn soon. Great video as always Paul. 👍🏻🎸🔥
Cheers Al
The body shape is VERY similar to the St. Blues Bluesmaster - 'Based in Memphis and still in production since the 70s. And wouldn't you know it - Billy Gibbons was one of their artists. Also, Buck Brundage & Barry Lipman of the Player Instrument Corp. out of NY were granted a patent for the modular pickup system back in the late 70s or early 80s. 'Just some useless information. 😄
I noticed that too. I grew up in Memphis and was very familiar with the Saint Blues line of guitars and the guys that developed it. I believe the Saint Blues guitars had a slightly smaller body which attracted me to them but I never picked one up. They were fine guitars and it was common to see a p90 in the neck position.
@Garflips 👍
A mix between a Strat and LP already exists. MusicMan Silouette baby!
The intro to this video sounds flippin amazing! The tone!! Bloody hell! Throbbing tremelo warbling is the dogs bollocks!
I would love to hear guitar demos straight into a clean channel amp or no amp. I do love the playing. Great chord choices. Thank you
Magnificent intro !!! ❤
That is one of the most BEAUTIFUL guitars I’ve ever seen! You kidding me? 😮
Damn i need that amplifier. Sounds phenomenal. The switchable pickup is also great. Ok I'm sold. Thanks.
Two awesome Amplified Nation amps there. Have you tried their Steel String Singer? It’s the best re-creation of Dumble’s classic SSS I’ve ever found. Their amps are just incredible.
I like that look a LOT better than most LP-alikes trying to modify the cutaway, or the ultimate sin IMHO, putting a Tele type shoulder on it.
The thing with most Gibson designs is that they are pretty much perfectly proportioned. Harder to improve upon than simply modify. Which is why so many simply port them over wholesale.
Man, you have some serious tone!
I love it, however.......I am married to individual tone controls for each pickup.
And while I can really appreciate the pickup swapping ability (as I'm sure my Wife would), it kind of cuts into my whole narrative of having one of each style/type of guitar(s).
These do look to be an excellent value, thank you for the demo, very much appreciated.
Beautiful top. Instantly attracted to it as it looks like my PRS Zach Myers
Awesome man!!!!
That's rather intriguing indeed ....worth for a proper closer look ..the idea of swapping pickups so easily is a great idea ...especially for those like me that searching for new sound combinations have now put together something like ...29 different guitars :-)
What a new unusual shapes!
very nice playing :)
I have some of their pickups - now I’m thinking I should get one of their actual guitars. Looks and sounds superb! Just wish there was binding on the neck.
Very cool, Paul. I wonder if it is possible to retrofit an existing guitar with that pickup system. Thanks for the great demo!
The pu hotswap was also in the Relic guitars - and the thing that amazed me (in a negative way) was, that you could swap from humbucker to singles....but you couldn't split humbuckers. That made my PRS more versatile and useable - except when only playing in studio.
Nice ref to Solsbury Hill on a great sounding guitar. Thanks
That’s some of the best guitar I’ve felt n a while
P90 in the neck position❤❤❤❤❤
This is cool! & this is exactly the sort of guitars that the 'non-traditional' builders should be making!
Agreed
that's nice. i've owned a lot of guitars over the last 50 years. still looking for the perfect one.
OMG dude…that tone
Nice demo. I agree though: I could do with a poly finish but I definitely prefer aged hardware. The MusicMan type profile is a dealbreaker to me... Cheers
YOU TOTALLY MISSED IT! That guitar rings acoustically in a very special way. That aids the pickups but the instrument is doing the work. I wonder if they can do that for all of their guitars or was this one a wonderful fluke?
Doesn’t matter if it’s perfect, soon as you own it you’ll be eyeing up the next one 🎸
THats awesome.... Imagine swapping pickups mid song live
before a solo LOL
Hi Paul, I was always under the impression the sound of the guitar came from the neck? Andy.
A humbucker-sized p90 in the neck of a dual humbucker routed guitar is an awesome idea. I would never buy a humbucker guitar (except for a true Firebird pickup).
Interesting... But I don't like Tele's. Now a Strat-Paul would be something I'd be into it perhaps. Appreciate the innovation.
Looks great, sounds better, have you ever checked out Feline guitars in Croydon, bloody brilliant!
Absolutely smokes my Gibson Les Paul Standard...
Hi, have you ever tried the Fishman Fluence pickups? I just installed the Fluence Classic Humbuckers on one of my guitars, and personally I think it’s a game changer. Having said that, you have a better ear than me, so I would be curious to hear your thoughts on them.
Tony Iommi invented heavy metal on a p90 I ❤ them.
The only thing I don't like about this guitar is the angle of the strings to the tuners, i would have liked to see a straighter string pull as I see this having the same type of tuning issues a Les Paul would have. Otherwise a stunning guitar.
Awesome Beauty of a Guitar.
Hot swapping definitely the future. What a lovely guitar 👌what gauge strings do you use? They sound so much better than my 9s but that could be my fat fingers!
Maybe the Gibson four-control layout would have made this guitar more perfect.
I'm afraid after a little oxidation I can foresee all sorts of pops and crackles and disconnect with that pickup connection system. Besides the fact that it seems to be a little wonky. You demonstrated adjusting the height from the rear, but can you adjust the bass side height separate from the treble side of the pickup? Asking for a friend...😊
Its a shame Relish never took off. I have a Mary One and its a great guitar. Ill have to look into one of these
Daaamn that was indeed a creamy intro. What tuning are you using?
I really enjoy Your channel. I’m starting to advance in my search for tone and to be able to play better and faster. Man Paul, let me ask you 2 things. Could you make a video on the DSL40c and the origin 50H and do some settings suggestions and second, can I get a tab or something that points me on the intro shred that you do on the vids there is a chord looks like a power chord E on the 7th fret but you do something on the low E string. I really like and can’t seem to figure it out. You always shred the same licks which are amazing to my ear. Can you be so kind to tab it so I can practice it? It’s the one you did on minute: 6:56 those licks on A And the chord on 6:58 wow! Cheers from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
Cheers fella, I’m afraid I no longer have the DSL it was loned from Marshall. About the riffs, we do a live show on Wednesdays, if you ask there I can demo directly
Sounds good. Two problems as far as I can tell: 1) The body shape. 2) That three knob control system might be just as a bad as the Gibson four knob system. Guitar companies: WE JUST NEED A SINGLE VOLUME AND A SINGLE TONE!!!
Like the pup swapping, BUT, it should allow you to use any manufacturers pups. For instance, i have a set of Bryan Williams Pageybuckers, which recreate Gods legendary 73 MSG tone, also have his God double neck pups, which are spectacular. But also love Arcane triple clones, and Gibson P90's. Having said that, in the end tone is all in the fingers.
You can get any pickups you like mounted for the Relish swapping system - and then you could use them with this guitar. In fact, I think Cream T might offer those for sale separately for not a lot of money. Cool company like that. 👍🏽
If the pickups sound different on different guitars, it's probably due to a failure to adhere to assigned tolerances due to poor qality control. Or, and just as likely, the way you feel about the guitar is affecting what your ears are telling. Either way, i like what Cream T Guitars are doing.
Are they not built by PJD? Sure I saw somewhere they were being built by PJD.
Any chance of getting some QC downloads available through your website?
I created some for that purpose but Neural have made it difficult with their only being able to share through their cloud. I am working on it.
@@TheStudioRats yeah, wish Neural would get their act together so creators don’t have to do the bypass/share workaround.
Imo it’s Overpriced and a bit to Gimmicky for me!
However it sounds bloody good 👍
Does it stay in tune? I bought a Gibson Les Paul Standard in 2021, and I've been dissapointed. My Strat and Tele stay in tune so much better. I'm looking for a Les Paul alternative that stays in tune. Crean T is lookin good so far. Nice demo!
PRS 594
Thank you so much for the suggestion. I will look for one to check out here in California. Thanks@@richardgarcia406
Try a String Butler. It was designed to deal with Gibson style headstock angle issues and improve tuning stability. Darrell Braun has a review as well. Works great on my LP Special.
Can you reverse them sort of like the Peter green thing?
You cant as they go in one way in afraid.
@@TheStudioRats I really like the idea of the modular design but it’s probably a little on the pricey side for me I’m rocking some very nice guitars that cost more than half the aurora.
Most vintage LP necks are smaller than their Reissue counterparts. Especially around the nut area.
Are you saying Nick cooper guitar or Nick hooper? If it's the cooper can I have it back please 😂......great playing, that p90 sounds unreal 👌
Your playing sounds great, the guitar and pickups sound great but I don't feel good about the shape of that body.
1 tool for 1 job is always better in my world then a 1 tool for 20 jobs haha
Did you ditch the Krautster?😮
No still got it, just trying to find the right pickups for it.
@@TheStudioRats Try the Seymour Duncan SH-2 B (bridge) To me, it just sounds great. Very articulate, overtones and harmonics shine.
is there such thing as a perfect guitar?I think as long as it work for the player it's OK.its all about the pick up that makes the difference.
A strat, a tele, a Les Paul, a Gretsch... Theyre still the same main tones we look for arent they? The pickup swop thing is great but..... come on? Bit gimmicky innit? Most of our fave players from classic records got their sound from one of those classic geetars!. Musical gear is what it is, but lately, theyre hard-selling it to us like sausage-meat. Here's the latest expensive overdrive etc. Just play more. The best players sound great through any rig. :)
TITLE should be: MY perfect guitar…….
I have heard the same overdriven tones out of a 1000 guitars costing $200. To quite a lot more, I do not see the point in guitars costing arms and legs that with distortion up to 10 that you can get the same sound out of a $200. Guitar.
Mmmm i wish i had 3000 bucks.
It’s not what I would call a good looking guitar.. but it sounds ok… 😂
For that money I'm sure if you contacted them they'd do you what you wanted.
It sounds amazing, but that headstock is just ugly? Why do so many guitars have small necks? We don't all have small hands, and i just like bigger necks.
Interstellar
Let me steal Gibsons design no one will notice 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Nice guitar but isn't it basically a Les Paul for the same price? Why would someone buy a LP that isn't Gibson unless they have some personal hatred of Gibson the company for some reason?
Boomers love their LP’s lol 🍿
That’s a very Ill informed comment.
The price tag isn't perfect. That's for sure.
Strat with a humbucker. Everyone knows that.
$3000 😭
It sounds damn wonderful, but unfortunately, to my eyes, it’s ugly as sin.
Hi, I like your channel, but come on man, every guitar "The Best" till someone sends you a different one. I no longer view "Perfect " guitar videos, if there was a best guitar, you would have stopped 2 years ago with a banged up strat, that was perfect too, till the next one. Just be truthful and honest, because you seem to just be a "Gear Whore", i can't take you seriously anymore. The only "Perfect guitar" is the red special......to him......just getting silly. You seem smarter than that.
Hideous. Absolutely off-putting.
I love your comments Ian. 😁
Great. And only $3,600 bucks. Sign me up.
I'm sure the guitar sounds good - but what we're HEARING is the amplifier.
Perfect for... who?... didn't understand.
The guitar is ugly, but looks aren't everything
