- If you’ve never toyed around with Google Earth, whether for fun or strictly educational purposes, then you’ve been missing out! There are so many cool and bizarre things you can see from satellite images that you probably wouldn’t catch if you didn’t have a bird’s eye view. For example, you can see graffiti in a volcanic crater in Mexico, the world’s largest logo in Chile, a pond full of hippos in Tanzania, and even Batman’s secret hideout in Japan… Wait, what? SUMMARY:
- Aircraft no longer in use just get sent to a special storage facility where they’re left until their parts can be salvaged or reused later on. And the airplane graveyard in Tucson, Arizona is by far the largest in the world.
- Canada’s Victoria Island lies within a lake, and there’s a lake on Victoria Island with another island in it!
- The Badlands Guardian in Alberta is not human-made. The head of the “Badlands Guardian” is a natural earth formation, or at least scientists say so.
- The act of cutting white horses out of hills actually has its own specific name: leucippotomy.
- The last thing you’d expect to see in the yellowish-red landscapes of Utah is a bright blue spot that instantly catches your eye. These are actually potash ponds, and they do look surreal, to say the least.
- Looking at this place from above, you might start thinking what a giant tsunami it must’ve been to throw such a large ship so far ashore. Worry not, though, it’s just a shopping center in Hong Kong.
- Chile and Peru are famous for their geoglyphs that date back more than a thousand years. Scientists believe it was a drawing of some deity of that time.
- What looks like something you’d see in some alien conspiracy documentary is, in fact, just an art installation made in 1997.
- Chilean Coca Cola marketing experts took 70,000 empty Coke bottles to write the company’s logo in the side of a hill. In fact, it’s part of a bigger trend called “mapvertising” where different companies do similar stuff.
- There’d been many rumors about the origins and purpose of this huge concrete structure found in the Nevada desert. The most recent theory, though, suggests that there are several of such markings all over the US.
- The Mirny mine is a one of the largest artificial holes in the world, made to dig out diamonds. Siberia is well-known for its diamond deposits, so it’s only natural that such a huge mine should be excavated here.
- Google Earth shows every piece of graffiti in this crater in detail, which means you can actually see them all from a bird’s eye view.

Back in 2009, my car could be seen at 4 locations in Google Earth: Mid Wales on my drive where I lived until 2007, in Stoke-on-trent after I moved there in 2007, Playa flamenca South Spain where I lived in 2008, then in Dublin where I lived for 3 years from 2009 onwards.

Technically it's a caldera-lake with a volcanic cone growing inside it, & that caldera is located within a larger caldera-lake inside the much older, larger caldera of an ancient volcano!

No it's not!!! it's only wierd cuz we know nothing bout it!!
So there was this one time i had this stage were all i did was explore. And i was "walking the streets" on Google Earth and there was this nice view so I thought I'll take a screenshot and i did. And 4 months later I was running out of space on my phone and i went through my gallery finding things I didn't need on there and I came across this and was like "What was the meaning of this?" And I looked at it and saw that it wasn't so pretty after all. There was this sewer (And no don't think the movie IT) I zoomed in and saw this figure. Pitch black,its arms were bent the wrong way, it had a really long neck, its head was and oval, and seemed to be hunched over (legs were not visable if it had any). I was like so freaked out and luckly the latitude and longitude were there and I went back to google earth and looked this up deterimned to find this again. And just to find it Blurred out I deleted it and thought probably was just a little glitch. I would put the location on here but I don't have it and i forgot it sorry!

There's a giant 'Australian Aboriginal' that was graded in the South Australian outback desert.
It was first spotted many, many years ago, back when GPS tracking data would have made it extremely difficult for a person or persons on several graders to 'cut' this figure 300mm into the dirt, especially with such precision.
No-one has ever come forward to 'admit' to working on it nor designing it.
When 1st 'discovered' it was near perfect but no survey pegs or other tyre tracks were found when it started to be surveyed.
It was almost lost to the elements when a group decided to 'plot it out' and re-dig it back into the soil and thus preserve it for longer, due to this figure being a huge tourist attraction.
The 'man' is over 5km tall, so this shows just how long it would have taken to grade it into the soil, yet no-one noticed it being graded both during the day where most likely dust would have travelled for km's nor at night where the lights of a grader or graders would have easily been noticed by aircraft flying over that exact path as that is 'how' it was first discovered, was by a pilot.

How about the bizarre shape in front of a house down the road, and then it got blurred out within a month, never to be seen again?
Edit: It was in front of a house down the road from my house, and it was shaped like a star, but it was purple and was floating. It had 6 sides, but didn't look like a normal 6-sided star.

#5 osmington white horse is outside of sutton poynz, which is a small village...say it is just north of weymouth, and english people will know where that is :) it is also just south of an area called " the vale of the white horse " where there are many carvings in the chalk of the downs :)
