I just tried mole mining on land. The mole was horrendous to use. I could not keep it still at all, I need to get a whole lot better or go back to my prospector :(
Some planets have adverse weather that blow your ship. Planets like Ariel, Aberdeen, Lydia and daymar are all good choices and don't blow your ship around when mining.
The 'new' sound isn't completely new, what they did was add Resonance to everything so now instead of just hearing the quantum jump happening what youre hearing is everything vibrating within the ship. Just like with boosting now you will notice your hud start to shake, they are just adding a bit more realism into the game.
I think this change is to force solo miners to use more mining consumables and devices you have to place on the rock to create those larger 'optimal' windows to make mining easier - basically more effort and time for greater reward, whereas crewed mining you perhaps don't need as many devices and consumables to help
I agree, they are trying to force the functions of mining and all its aspects. I change I wish they'd make is with extraction laser power. It currently allows you to extract faster which I find pretty silly. It would be better if it allowed you to extract larger rocks without fracturing. At a glance it sounds like it could be a little busted, but you trade speed for clutter as you'd have to take a large rock at its ore distribution. Sure, means faster turn around times, but you sacrifice some cargo space for less desirable ores.
What reward: you can't sell your mixed goods at the TDD's unless you go out into deep space unload everything, and then reload everything. Then hope that you got your 1st sell item right (what's on top, what's on bottom). Madness, a total time sink, and unnecessary since they had a perfectly good load/sell mechanism in 3.19.1.
They absolutely fucked people that own a prospector it is so garbage now. 90% of the rocks you will find are impossible so now you have to hunt even harder for less money. Mining is in the worst state it has ever been in.
When I try to mine, the right part of the mining UI that shows the optimal window and charge of the rock, won't appear after scanning... basically I scan a rock, then it pops up all the UI except for the part I mentioned above, now this doesn't happen every time, I noticed that most of the time when I have the difficulty of mine (after scan) that say me "impossible" these gauges appear 100% of the time, but when it say "easy" or "hard" most of the times they wont appear, please someone tell me if this is a bug or something,or maybe if I am doing something wrong, because I'm going mad for this, basically it's impossible to mine
That's pretty unique, I haven't experienced or heard about that issue before. You probably are not alone, stop by the issue council and report it if there isn't already one so it can get seen and fixed!
Hey man great video quick question though have installed ptu will I loose items from inventory in live SC if I have to customise character and select home base ?
Good question! The PTU is ment to be temporary, so you don't bring anything with you and you don't keep anything you get. However, you do start with 15mil aUEC in the PTU. The purpose of the PTU is for players to test out the patch and more bugs can be identified so a smoother live patch can come out.
So far done 10 runs in a Prospector (because 3.20 wiped my MOLE and the 3.20 micropatch wiped the replacement I bought). Fluctuations being random kills the whole fun of it. No skill needed anymore when the rock randomly jumps from 0% to 100% within 2 seconds and the rock blows in your face. Also have not seen a MOLE salvage mission to upgrade the bags.
I had the same thing happen to me, the nature of a game in alpha phase. I thought the fluctuations were a result of instability but apparently those massive spikes were unintended and were patched in the recent hot fix.
@@epic_grayfox Hopefully they somewhat return it to what it was in 3.19 where you actually had to fiddle with the laser power and balance it. Edit: nope, still spikes like crazy...
I agree. It's because it was ALREADY too stressful doing it that I stopped even trying to mine anything. I'll stick to salvage, I play to relax, not get even MORE stressed than how life in general already makes me.

With 3.20 going into the live server I've actually learned that, while not listed under the laser description, the hofstede has still retained all its stats as normal. Additionally, in a recent hotfix, CIG listed in the patch notes that the sudden, large spikes in rock charge were actually unintentional and have been patched. @@epic_grayfox it has a big reduction to instability and a good bit of power, so it will help stabilize rocks and can still crack good size ones. All power module builds are something I get the sense they are moving away from with the incredibly small windows. I used a lancet in testing a while back and found it was really good to combine with other lasers as well because of the instability reduction and was very handy at cracking the small rocks.
Brandt doesn't -75% instability, maybe it used to but not in 3.19 or 3.20. Idk, the lancet has a huge drop to charge window size. I think that impact can be powerful. In a recent hotfix, CIG actually addressed those sudden, large jumps and said that was fixed. I'm sorry to hear about the hefty amount of problems you are having. Hopefully those are resolved and you're able to enjoy the game! I too lost my mole twice so I feel your pain, the second time I lost a lot of the components as well and the XL-1 isn't cheap.

Lol, I don't mention anywhere that this is a guide or anything if the sort. Guide comes out next week. They fiddled with instability a lot in 3.20 so there is going to be a learning curve for everyone
I honestly hate the "mining" mini-game. It's so cheap and immersion-breaking. It shouldn't be a mini-game at all, it should just be a solid and satisfying mining mechanic, similar to scrapping.
I feel like it can add a lot if you have modules and gadgets with you, or a crew in a mole. Salvage is pretty fun but without auto box printing adds a lot of Hassle to the loop as well
Yeah, the GrayFox was talking really positive but what we just watched wasn't great. His experience matches mine as well. Frustrating breaks with low % yields and a saddle bags filled with 50% junk.
The instability changes are good and force a different gameplay style I think. Prior to 3.19, it was quantanium farming which was pretty low skill and didn't meet the intent of the the loop with people prioritizing the prospector. In 3.19 we saw a redistribution of ores, which helped but also made the loop not very lucrative for the time commitment, it also allowed for a sole mole miner to breeze through large rocks easily with instability being inconsistent but tolerable. In 3.20 I think they've arrived in a good Ore distribution (found quantanoum twice today alone.) Plus the big 3 are plentiful now Instability is made worse by high laser power, but multiple lasers from the same mole dramatically reduce instability. Or a lower powered laser like a prospector. I think this will allow new players to get into the loop with the prospector easier, while also forcing the function of crew gameplay in the mole. In games, we don't like change that makes what we liked before more difficult. I'll have a updated mining tutorial coming out next week to go over the new meta for mining I think and what players should be looking out for.
