  • Hi everyone, in this week's video, I talk about the main differences between undergrad/college/university and dental school. I get questions sometimes about whether or not dental school is "hard" and these are pretty much the reasons why it is so challenging. I will start vlogging once I start school again! I can't wait to show you all what second year dental school is like. :)
    Also, pretty random but I also get asked what my major was in undergrad, and it was Biological Sciences.

    I'm so excited to actually start learning about dentistry when I get into school! that was something that I definitely hated about my undergrad...learning about stuff that I was almost certain I would never use as a dentist. Thanks for posting Brittany!!!

    Congrats on becoming a D2! I appreciate you making these dental school-related videos. In your labs, do you usually have a good idea of what to do when you're there? I'm wondering because I got confused a lot when I was in my chem lab and had to get help from the TA or another lab group about a step in the procedure every time I was there.

      To be honest, I still get confused every time we have a new project! Pretty much during class we watch a video and the professor lectures about it and sends us off to lab. I have to ask for extra help a lot haha.

    Here in New Zealand you can get your undergrad degree in dental surgery. It takes 5 years and you can practice after

    If you're already in dental school, what are some ways that your experience was different than that of your undergrad?

    Historically, dentistry was considered a trade and apprenticeship, before it was considered a profession, due to the fact that it is very hands on.

    My biggest fear about going to dental school is the studying? Do you think it's manageable? Also are undergrads and dental schools in England good or no? Thank you for your channel it's very helpful!!

      @brittanywatu4835  7 років тому +1

      Hi Samantha, thank you for being so supportive! Sorry I don't know too much about England's education system. But, I do know that the studying takes a while to get adjusting to. I've had to get better at managing my time and learning about what works for me when it comes to studying. I also learned that the best method for me to study was to actively study!

      I study Dentistry in the UK but I'm not sure I quite understand your question. All schools here are fine, it actually doesn't matter where you go as all courses are regulated by the GDC.

    I’m super nervous I’m about to start my D1 year in a couple weeks, but I barely put any work in undergrad. I’m worried I won’t be able to make the transition

    Are there any activities you recommend would have been very helpful for dental school in terms of improving your dexterity so that some of your lab activities would not have been as difficult?

    • @brittanywatu4835
      @brittanywatu4835  7 років тому +1

      +MP Patel hi, actually what I've come to realize that dentistry is both hand skills AND visualization. Try to do activities like drawing, painting, sculpting, etc that trains your eye as well as your hands.

    It would seem that Dental school should be easier cause you're only focused on one direction, so why would it be harder than college where your courses are in every direction? Thanks much.

      There's a LOT of material! And also, the hand skills are very new for most people.

    Did you take a year off before going to dental school, or did you go straight from undergrad?

    • @brittanywatu4835
      @brittanywatu4835  7 років тому

      +Bay Area Bible Study Fellowship straight!

    • @bayareabiblestudyfellowshi2875
      @bayareabiblestudyfellowshi2875 7 років тому +1

      +Brittany Watu so did you apply your junior year? And did you feel burnt out going straight from undergrad to dental school? Also, do most people go straight or do they take a year off?

    • @brittanywatu4835
      @brittanywatu4835  7 років тому

      Yes I applied the summer before my last year in college. No, I didn't feel really burnt out. I feel like a lot of my classmates took gap year(s). The majority of my class.

    • @bayareabiblestudyfellowshi2875
      @bayareabiblestudyfellowshi2875 7 років тому

      +Brittany Watu so what compelled you to not take a gap year like other students in your class? Also how did you manage to apply for dental school while keeping up on school work.

    • @brittanywatu4835
      @brittanywatu4835  7 років тому +1

      +Bay Area Bible Study Fellowship I applied in the summer so I didn't have class then. Also I wasn't feeling burnt out so that's what I decided to go straight to dental school.

    Do you live in a dorm at the dental school? Or an apartment near it? (I'm wondering because I recently got married and I was wondering where me and my husband would be living when I start my dental school in 2 years. And he works real estate 🏡 )
