    Hope you guys find this helpful! I know a lot of you are more interested in holistic dental advice or vegan recommendations, but some of you passerby's happen to be applicants for dental school and have a ton of questions about how to apply and get in. I was in the same situation when I was applying to dental school. Hopefully my insight is at least somewhat inspiring. Let me know if you have more questions, if I get enough feedback I might be able to construct a proper Q&A video about applying or surviving dental school!
    Talk to you soon :)

    I’m a pre-dental student and I’ve been feeling so discouraged about my GPA because I felt like a 3.45 wasn’t high enough to be accepted, but hearing that your GPA was a 3.4 gives me hope!! 😊

    Dr. Wendy, I would say that this video was one of the more helpful videos that I have watched for dental-school applicants on UA-cam. I am so tired of hearing the same thing over and over again. I love your perspective especially as an international applicant! I would love to see a video talking more about your personal statement. Thank you for the great video!

    Take the time to talk to your dentist or one you may know. They will give you valuable advice regarding admission but, more importantly, if you are accepted try to keep them as a mentor. Volunteer to assist them. You will learn so much more about real life dentistry than you ever will from the dental school staff. Have a thick skin and be prepared to be put down and made to feel useless. If you secure a job prior to graduation DO NOT tell anyone as many faculty demonstrators will be bitter and start to look for more reasons to mark you down. The best demonstrators are those private practitioners that demonstrate 1 day a week or so. Dental school sucked, full stop. So glad it is over ( 17 years ago )!

    i’m a freshman in high school & i know that i for sure want to be a pediatric dentist. i’m already looking into majors & honors classes to help me become educated in biology, which is what i’m planning on majoring in at a university. i’m really scared of not being successful as a pd. & i’m nervous because of how expensive it can get. i’m gonna do my best to maintain my 4.0 all throughout high school & hopefully i fulfill my dreams one day!! 🙏🏼

She found this graduate school that is allowing her to go in as a graduate student and by just taking the GRE, but by her second year if she keeps a certain GPA they are going to transfer her to their medical school. I was wondering if there are any dental school like this?

    Hi Dr. Wendy, I am a York U student and I've always wanted to go into dentistry. The only things is, I am not undergoing a Bsc, however I heard that depending on the school you do not necessarily have to have a Bsc degree just as long as you take the dental pre-reqs. Do you think it is still possible to get into dental school for my case?

    • @DrWendy
      @DrWendy  7 років тому +2

      I think it depends on the program and you will have to research. For the schools I applied to in USA, I do believe they required some sort of degree. But go ahead and check! If it's just prereqs then even better!

  • @krystalmendez1628

    Similar to your story, I also discovered my interest in dentistry really late. Did you have any classmates that applied late into the cycle around August? Would you advise applying next cycle instead of applying late summer? Also, when you interviewed, did the interviewers question your experience in the dental field since you only had one week experience? Thank you so much!

    • @DrWendy
      @DrWendy  7 років тому +1

      For sure there are later applicants in the cycle, but depending on your statistics - if you are well rounded then there is less harm in applying later because schools will want to pick you up fast. I don't think interviewers are too interested in your dental knowledge, they just want to gauge you as a person xo

      Tatiana, If it’s what you want you should do it :) if you’re a junior in high school you’re probably 17 right? 18 when you graduate? If you stick with it and keep going you could be 24 by the time you graduate.. Maybe 26. THAT IS YOUNG! Lol You can do it.
      As for the cost, sadly it is something you need to accept right now. Anything ever related to education is going to cost a pretty penny. Look into scholarships and work if you can. I know in MO dentists who work at a public health office can potentially get their student loans forgiven. Just look into your options and you’d be surprised by what you find.
      It is difficult.. I’m not in dental school, but I have gone through an accredited dental assisting program and I am currently in my first year of dental hygiene. It’s not easy and I found myself doubting myself and wondering if I was smart enough. Turns out I am :D It’s going to be hard, especially dental school because you’re going to school to be a doctor. There’s lots to know, but it is not impossible just put your mind to it :)
      P.S. loved the video!

    Ok so I have a problem and maybe you could help me. I'm 26 I am married with a 6 year old. Back when had our child I made the mistake of going to beauty school. I took me forever due to several surguries and it knocked me out of my grant. So now I'm in debt with school but I did finish I actually took the test 3 times and failed. Back in High school I wasn't considered an over achiever. In fact I'm not even sure of my gpa average I obviously managed to get my diploma but I didn't really push myself back then because I didn't know my options my parents are middle class workers and they do well for themselves but I would love to do better. I've been thinking about our future lately and I feel like being a dentist would actually be a really great income even though it takes 4-6 years. I figured we've struggled this long better four more years than for the rest of our lives. But due to having a family probably gonna have to definitely work as well I would like to know pretty much should I chance it? For me being a dentist would be perfect the money the hours the fact that I wouldn't be under anyone. But I'm unsure even if I did chance it what my chances would be to get in.

      there are common prerequisites you'll need such as biology, chemistry, math, english, etc. Make sure you check out each school's requirements!

      You will need to get your GED if you didn't finish high school. But if you are really motivated, I think you can do it. It will be a long journey (4 years college + 4 years dental school), but if it's what you really want then go for it!

    Do you think it matters what college you went to? also, I've heard you have advantage if you are a minority, is it true?

      Harry Tall the majority of people who get into Dental School are white you’re mostly competing against them

    What is the shortest time it takes to become a dentist and can u just tell me the steps to take like what to study in college and stuff I really need help

      In America and Canada, it will take a 4 year undergrad + 4 year DDS/DMD program. I would recommend a science based program in college such as Biology/Chemistry etc just so you know the basics of Anatomy!

    • @nasimf1896
      @nasimf1896 7 років тому

      Ben Regis typically 4 years for undergrad and 4 years for dental school, but there are a few 3 year dental schools like UOP

    I'm thinking of being a dentist but i have a serious blood phobia. Do you think i can overcome it?

    • @DrWendy
      @DrWendy  7 років тому +4

      try shadowing a dentist or a periodontist/oral surgeon and see if you can become accustomed to the blood. I think I was squeamish at first but I'm not anymore
