One of the true rarities among mankind, a natural born teacher who is generous with his knowledge and able to see through the lens of those who do not understand, and anticipate what their questions will be. I hope you will do a C-6 build to go with your C-6 teardown sometime. I just built my first one, it seems to function just fine, and I'm working on a second right now while I have it fresh in my mind but I'm still working at the level of the what goes next and don't yet understand the why. It is only when I understand the "why this part goes next" that I really feel like I am assembling one correctly rather than blindly following directions without actually understanding what I'm doing.

Good job. I worked at several shops that didn't want me to change all the bushings. One clown told me that if a bushing lasted this long it will last another 100000 miles! When I opened my shop, I changed them all almost always.
Been doing transmissions for over 30 years.Very good videos,the only thing i would recommend is putting your assembly grease on with your fingers that way if you have a ripped lipseal you will feel it and not have to tear it back down after air checking.
You my friend are are a godsend! Thank you for posting this awesome video for this very expensive transmission, which from what I see, can be torn down with a couple of flat head screwdrivers and a pick. You’ve given me the confidence to rebuild my own transmission, with a complete rebuild kit,new pump and torque converter for less than 2000$ vs 7000$ at a transmission shop and I know I’ll be putting all the new parts from the kit....bushings included. Great video!

I have enjoyed your videos and hope if you ever get out "of the business" you decide to find a good automotive college and decide to become a teacher and pass on what you have learned. Thanks, Hiram Just a tip for you guys, you can place your bushing in a freezer overnight and use a deep fryer with a electric temp control, Water will work just fine. Take your parts that are going need a bushing installed, heat them to about 140 degrees, then take your bushing one by one out of the freezer and install them. Removing them its the hard way as Hiram said.
Nice video Hiram. I watched the entire video and enjoy rebuilding transmissions. Built my first transmission in 1972 at BOCES A904 and built my first racing Turbo 400 in 1978 and the rest is history.
Good stuff man! Just ran across this channel and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I am 62 years old and lived out the muscle car experience back in the day. I had mainly standard shift in mustangs and nova but a few with the turbo 400. Always tried to tweak the auto trans to the real hard shifts. Brings back a lot of memories. Good job, keep it up.

Yeah I can tell they know what they are doing, but when I get a trans back from a shop and the case and pan look like they were tossed in a rock tumbler it always makes me wonder how the parts inside were handled and installed. I don't work on may autos myself, but when the need comes up I search your video catalog to see if you have covered it. Watch the videos a few times then go for it. Or I use the information to determine if it is something I want to tackle then I use it to interview shops before I farm the work out.

Your cam bushings give alot toward your overall oil pressure you should always change them if you are that deep in so in translation i would have used the pump head with the new bushing before i used the remand with the old bushing in it aswell 🤯 and the ⚙️ backwards lol good eye sir good eye
Watch those 4C snap rings. They blow off a lot and cause a lot of damage. Sonnax makes a retainer kit to keep it in place , suncoast does as well but they’re pricier.
Can u please make a video on how different parts in the transmission works...It is complicated as there are too many parts inside the transmission..System.. sensers...Oil passages and rings. Etc.. Your videos... are nice...Thanks...
I am re assembling a 4r55E transmission and I would pay to get a video of it... I did a 4l60e and your assembly video made it smooth and it works very well. I would love one for a 4r55e I would even pay for it
It would also be good if you did some diagnostic videos.. I know at the point you get your hands on a trans its going to be torn down to the bearings and checkballs but for the rest of us its good to know symptoms and whether something is a solenoid or a clutch pack.. before we order parts and get working

Granted when i did try internal transmission disassembly i was out in a junkyard on dirt i didn't have a good table to use. But regardless stuck on snap rings didn't have the tool so transmission pan and only bolts i could undo.... (snap ring pliers at the time i wasn't aware of the snap rings). So the next step for me is to completely disassemble junk transmissions then if that a success move on to reassembling the components properly
Finally I am looking to restore an older GM or Ford or VW maybe and change the drive train .. maybe find a 302 mustang c4 and put a 351 c6 in it.. if you could go over how you deal with things like making a Column Shifter into a Floor Shifter and Linkage and cable actuated and what options you have and what to expect .. also Driveshafts if you need to make custom to fit a longer engine and trans in say a mustang or something.. its something I have never done.. i know you can buy the stuff
What were the popular OEM defects in these 68RFE transmissions ? Overdrive slippage, valve body warpage and what else ? What do they need most, a shift correction kit or ?

to answer your question, no i don't use old bearings (no matter which bearings) during a rebuild. Then again i usually send my heads and block out to get reworked and have the cam bearings done then since i don't have the equipment to it myself.

Guarantee, 99% of shops dont put complete bushing kits in these units.
Most shops I was at didn't. One shop even made fun of me for doing it!

I would use a brass punch to install the snap ring. The screw driver is better for screws ;). The brass is better at not damaging the snap ring.
