Horne is 100 times more generous with his “take it always” than Robins is! Maybe even 1000 times. Poor Horne!

Alex asked if professional golfers apply backspin to putts. In fact the opposite is true, they apply topspin to help the ball hold its line. A putt struck with no topspin means the ball initially skids across the green before it starts to roll and is more likely to deviate from it's intended line.

I just love you two, you remind me of me and my golf partner, we have a laugh, big each other up, are disappointed for each other when we have miss hits, but most of all are not overly competitive with each other - keeping the game relaxed and enjoyable.
By the way you need to get some birdie juice - no it's not some excretion from our feathered friends! It's a shot of alcohol (or in our case a can of gin & tonic/mojito/any other canned alcoholic drink) to celebrate the birdie. Oh and a tube of Pringles is always a good snack during a round .......you're welcome 😁😬

      1. The question was ‘Do professional golfers put backspin on a putt?’
      2. “Rolling forwards” is ambiguous at best. A trolley ‘rolls forward’, with 90% of the trolley doing no rolling at all. A golf ball can roll towards a hole yet be travelling 180° in the opposite direction. “Rolling forwards” is not specific enough to rule out my point.
      3. When a snooker player applies backspin, it often continues rolling with forward spin after the reverse spin has worn off. A ‘drag’ or ‘stun run-through’ are the most obvious.

@@jpquinn91 again, “put backspin” is ambiguous. In the first millisecond after the ball leaves the face of a firm putt and is somewhat clear of the ground, is the top of the ball rotating faster away or toward the golfer? Given that most putters have a loft of 3° or more, the likelihood is that the answer is yes, but… once the ball has full contact with the ground, it travels with top of the ball rotating away from the golfer and no ‘backspin’ remains. It’s important to be accurate.
