    Wish builders would add extra studs around windows. If a kid pulls on that left side, she's coming out. I repair these all the time. Mostly heavier drapes though, that will probably be ok. Drapes are a pain in the butt any way you tackle them. Decorators have all these special ways they want them, never where there is a stud.

    What if you put one bracket on and then tape the level on the rod and then just put the other bracket on the other end and then when the rod is level mark the brackets position. Remove rod. Replace bracket, mark holes (some brackets can't be installed while the rod is in) drill holes and it should be level?

    Awesome stuff. Is 3 inches past the edge of the window sufficient enough to reveal the entire window plus some trim when the blinds are fully retracted? Would you move the bracket potential 3-6 inches past the edge of the window so the entire window plus trim is revealed when the curtains are retracted?

    • @littleimprovements
      @littleimprovements  2 роки тому +3

      If the pole length supports going back 3-6 inches to make sure and reveals the trim/casing I think would do that. In our case we don’t have trim and casing (yet!) so this worked. But I would agree with you being able to reveal the casing would be nice.

    Years ago I installed some new brackets into the old location and then later it all came crashing down. So I'm trying to a repair job. I was planning on picking a new location, but maybe I can still use the old location. I think their both going into studs and I used the supplied screws so I don't understand why it came down. It should have been strong enough. I guess I can try to use longer screws, I'm not sure bigger wider ones will fit through the bracket. Or maybe I can try the anchors into the stud. Otherwise, I guess it's a new spot, but that means the old spot will show.

    • @littleimprovements
      @littleimprovements  Рік тому +1

      If you’re going into studs, possibly try some longer screws. You can always try and put a screw into the wall (without bracket - on each side) to see by how secure it is when it goes in, or use a nail, you can also get a stud finder. Best of luck!

    My anchors won’t go in all the way. I tried hammering them in and they started to get deformed. Perhaps I have studs behind my pilot holes? The (provided) screws are too small for the holes i created (per the curtain rod instructions) and aren’t gripping anything if I try to out them in without the anchors. I left the anchors in as far as i could and screwed the screws in. The anchors are sticking out like 1/8” from the wall. I’ll take all the advice i can get, thanks!

    • @sundibear7258
      @sundibear7258 Рік тому

      They could be too small for the hole... if you did hit a stud you can just take the anchor out and use a drill and screw. You'll know if you hit a stud because it won't keep spinning.

    • @littleimprovements
      @littleimprovements  Рік тому

      Hi Gabriella, are those measurements the width of the length of the drywall anchor? Usually I pick a drill bit about half as thick as the drywall anchor, start there and if the anchor won’t go in go a little bigger. The other thing is too if you hit a stud with your drill bit you don’t want to drill such a big whole that your screw won’t go into that whole too so maybe start small (thin).

      It's easiest to pick them out by weight rating. Look for the 65# or 75# ( depending on your market). Get the plastic, Not the metal! Believe it or not, the plastic anchors are Much stronger. Always drill a pilot hole first, there may be framing behind the drywall.

      @@littleimprovements I am having tough times putting a plastic anchor for the screw to anchor beforehand, because it is plastic and easy to be bent or expanded while I put the plastic anchor into the hole hammering it in. Plus, I don't think anyone can just drill the right size hole for the plastic anchor. If so, the hole would be most likely big, the plastic anchor can't fit in snuggly, loosen out instead. It really requires a certain type of technique skill which means it's quite precise. But it depends on the shape of the plastic anchor. The wide or bigger spiral ones are difficult to fit in. Another problem is above the window frame about 3inches high, I always drill into the a hard piece that is most likely a stud, I guess. On top of that, the stud detector about $36, I purchased from ACE is pretty good, but it isn't correct. Some people say the cheaper ones are more sensitive. Do you have any good recommendations?
