Show up with whatever, People respect you at the race track, it's not a car meet where you go to show off. Autocross is about competing against yourself, others sometimes, and just learning and having a good time.
I'm glad to hear that. I'm looking to get into Auto Cross and the car I'm going to be buying soon is a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon. I know they aren't the fastest car and a lot of people don't like them or even respect them but they're one of my favorite cars. Here in Utah it seems the only way to be "cool" is if you drive a WRX/STI or an Evo. I just want something I like and that isn't too commonly used.
Awesome! you'll have fun and probably beat some people with supposedly faster cars. I used to drive a nearly stock Focus with pretty good tires and finished in the middle of the pack. Now I am working on a 95 Mustang GT to make it handle to get in the upper 1/3 hopefully!
Crimson Tactical Even if you aren't fast, you will have a great time and will hopefully take away some new skills. When I talk to novices, I recommend that they make the most out of their time there. I suggest to them to ask a lot of questions and to ask veteran drivers to ride with them. I think if you can take away one or two key points, I think you are in some pretty good shape.
Great video! I've been doing this for a few years now and you did a fantastic job of explaining what Autocross is and some of the culture around it! Thanks for posting!
The narrator has excellent cadence. He reminds me of hearing John Buffum. Good clip too. Thanks for making it. It will be a good thing to send someone to explain autocross. Jeff Forss "The Alignment Guy".
While it looks like the driver is not wearing a belt, I would bet that he's got a custom lap belt, which is covered by his t-shirt. In an open cockpit car you can't run fixed shoulder belts unless you have a legal roll bar, which this car doesn't appear to have. Many Miata drivers will have a custom fixed lap belt that they'll use just for autocross.
yep more or likely is using the G-Force torso harness which I know a few of the local in my area use. I went with the scroth rally 4 but may change to a 6 point and harness bar in my car later down the road.
Maybe at a very large event with a ton of cars. I'm in Utah and have gone to a few events to watch and I've seen cars run the track five times or more. And the courses they set up are pretty long and take about 2.5-3 minutes to complete. I'm looking to get into because I want a new hobby, and want to get involved in the car scene. If I enjoy it as much as I think I will I will probably continue it for a while then perhaps branch out to going to actually track days and setting up another car for actual racing.
Alex Alex It really depends on the club that hosts the event. Some clubs are more competition focused. Others are a little more recreational. Some clubs offer more of a test and tune environment. It just really depends.
Unless you live in a very remote area, you probably have a local club or association. Get in touch with them, and I'm sure they'll be glad to help you get started.
I live in a place where there is no race. Do you know what I do ? I place a lot of spray painted plastic bottles in a desert parking lot and have a hell of a fun. Autocross rules.
yeah, your course starter wasn't doing their job. i always check helmet strap and seatbelt at the line before letting the car go. It's not that hard a job, just do it right.
Hello, I used a 10-second clip in your video for my college project presentation, which has some connection with autocross. I mentioned the original video source is here. Hope that was okay? Thanks
Cool but he's over estimating autocross compared to road course. Competing with other cars on the track in the same class brings a new meaning to every inch matters
Yup. Typical autocrosser. "We have to be inch percise." If you want to be fast at any race track you have to be inch precise. Say that to a group of GP3 drivers and see what they say to you...
Imagine if GRASSROOTS motorsports such as this was more emphasised in mainsteam America! That racing is not for some rich asshole in a Ferrari. Currently NASCAR has teams being sponsered by freakin Target and Viagra. Which is why many Americans are in love with the car culture in Japan and Europe because the market segment places more emphasis on entry level club racing. Imagine if this was the case for America, and what that would do for small buisness that specialize in building cars.
Not sure if this was a joke or not, if not that's probably one of the most idiotic statements I've seen. There's a lot of things you can *not* really do that would be safer than doing it, there are reasons to actually do things in the real world. It's not at all the same in a game or simulation no matter how good it is. Besides that, autocross is pretty much THE safest way to drive/race competitively, both for the car and the people. The runs are short so it's not nearly as strenuous on the car as a 20+ minute runs on a track. It's also entirely flat and the worst that will happen is you hit a cone (unless something goes terribly wrong).

I appreciate the sentiment, but I doubt I can compete in my 00 Suburban lol
Great video! I've been doing this for a few years now and you did a fantastic job of explaining what Autocross is and some of the culture around it! Thanks for posting!
Looks like it would be really hard to determine the corners with all those cones on a table flat surface.
The narrator has excellent cadence. He reminds me of hearing John Buffum.

Jeff Forss "The Alignment Guy".
Amazing how 2010 already feels like 1995
2 years after your original comment, I can confirm lol
That little miata was flyin
Miata enthusiasts will get the reference lolll
@@tomemacyt.1524 Flyin’Miata!
It's really awesome, I started doing it last year

Good video, but we forgot our seat belts at 1:57
I AutoX myself. I run a 2000 Acura 3.2 TL in GS (G-Stock).
So you get to 'race' for 3 minutes out of the whole day!! Fuck that, was seriously considering it!
Maybe at a very large event with a ton of cars.

Alex Alex It really depends on the club that hosts the event. Some clubs are more competition focused. Others are a little more recreational. Some clubs offer more of a test and tune environment. It just really depends.
That's at nationals. In my local club you get eight runs a day. At test and tune you can run as many times as you want.
Do you think I can bring my 2004 Matrix XRS 200,000 miles?
i bought a 2.0 1998 beetle to do this. LOL its gonna be a blast!
I know me and my new WRX are doing this summer! Gonna need a few small upgrades but shall be cheap and very fun.
im certainly sold and trying it this summer, great video.
i want to do this in my 3rd gen prelude but i know everyone will call me a ricer... that shit is annoying i just wanna drive
Very cool! A good place for readers to "test" out a new sportscar!
FM
I can't believe it... the driver near the end isn't wearing restraints...
This looks like a lot of fun but no idea how to actually get involved into the sport, any ideas?
Unless you live in a very remote area, you probably have a local club or association. Get in touch with them, and I'm sure they'll be glad to help you get started.
check out motorsportreg.com or myautoevents.com for a list of local events etc. hope that helps!
Question: I have a Toyota Corolla 04, would I be able to turn it into a autocross car?
Yes. Clean it out of anything loose, add 3psi to the tires, then show up to an event.
Very hard to understand with the music playing

10 minutes in your car and 7 hours standing in a parking lot.

james dean Right. This is more closer to rally racing I'd say
No where close. Rally driving takes much more skill than this are you fucking joking?
at 1:57 he make be wearing the G-force torso harness and has the t-shirt covering. it.
Me to in my 79 911SC
can I race my completely stock 01' dodge dakota? lmao
Nick5220 - actually yes there is a class for trucks we have 2 guys local that run Chevy s-10's
really? I might have to check my local event out and see what its all about. Thanks

wtf does this have to do with crazy frog racing
toyota mr2
Autcross is weird
That's dumb, you can do that on a video game and it would be a lot safer.
Autocross is safer than driving in a grocery store parking lot. Seriously.
