"trouble's always gonna find you baby, but so am I" really does live in my head rent free. This song deserves more love.
this and "even if you lose *what's left of* your mind" oh my god
"PLEASE DON'T LOVE HOW I NEED YOU" like?? fuck, y'all 😭
ethel cain perfectly captured the idea of being attached to a person who has no concerns for you, yet you stay with them anyways because you're scared of what would happen to them without you, so you start carrying their burden almost like you're doing it on their behalf. The lines "Trouble's always gonna find you, baby, but so will I" and "I'm never gonna leave you, baby, even if you lose what's left of your mind" just fills me up with melancholy instantly.
And the most heartbreaking part? The fact that it ends with "And know that, one day, you and I could be okay"
cannot believe Hayden called this a skip
wait when??
@@arlondz_559on tumblr ages ago
on her tumblr before she deactivated it, she replied to a comment saying she always skips western nights. which is crazy bc its such a good song@@arlondz_559
Best song on the album
WHAT?! this song is my bread and butter 😭💕
1:11 I love how the drums start the same time she says “The neighbors beat on the walls”. It makes it feel so real.
XOTWOD
I swore she singing "The neighbors peed on the walls"
THIS IS SO REAL@@nickomoran2550
since nobody's posted the full lyrics, i'll do the honors:
He's never looked more beautiful
On his Harley in the parking lot
Breaking in to the ATMs
Sleeping naked when it gets too hot
I watched him show his love through shades of black and blue
Starting fights at the bar across the street like you do
The neighbors beat on the walls while I'm facefirst in the bed
Show me how much I mean to you while I'm lying in these sheets undressed
I'd hold the gun if you asked me to
But if you love me like you say you do
Would you ask me to?
Trouble's always gonna find you, baby
But so will I
Crying only because I'm happy
Hold me across every state line
I'm never gonna leave you, baby
Even if you lose what's left of your mind
'Cause you know I'll be right there beside you
Riding through all these western nights
Oh-oh, no-oh, no-oh, no-oh-oh
No-oh-oh, no-oh, no, no, no, no (oh)
I haven't spoken to my daddy in a long, long time
I don't want him to worry, always wondering if I'm alright
But the neighborhood keeps getting smaller (keeps getting smaller)
All starved out when the money's paper thin
All that's left are your walls and you'll die there
I should have known that there's no getting in, oh-oh
Trouble's always gonna find you, baby
But so will I
Crying only because I'm happy
Hold me across every state line
I'm never gonna leave you, baby
Even if you lose what's left of your mind
'Cause you know I'll still be right behind you
Riding through all these western nights
Through these western nights
Crying in the light of the TV static
I'll still be alright
Clinging onto you like some love blind addict
I'll be screaming your name
Past the gas stations, trailing down the interstate
Please, don't love how I need you
And know that, one day, you and I could be okay
Thank you so much for this ❤️
Thank u 🖤❤️
I can’t thank you enough. I would never know wtf she was saying without this
++
Oh thanks!
“But if you like me like you say you do,
would you ask me to?”
gut wrenching. sobbing. on the floor.
I really hope this album gets a vinyl release at some point, because I'd pick it up day fucking one.
id kill for even a cd but oh my god though imagine if there was a brown color vinyl like the color of the walls in the album cover or a pale cream like her dress
“But the neighborhood keeps getting smaller (keeps getting smaller)” omg . that whole verse is …
Space is shrinking fast as time accelerates
the most underrated song in the album tbh
It's the best
she really put out album of the year wow; what a masterpiece
Yup ,by a massive margin too. One of the best debut albums ever, period
I'm afraid that if you become any better at your craft you'll ascend to the god plane
This has been my album of the summer. It's literally changed me as a person.
This is probably my 25th full listen through...but only the second time I've watched it on youtube, the visualizers and videos and everything. That was actually how I took in this album the 1st time I heard it. Everything since then has been Spotify. But man...tonight....listening to this album, along with the visual aesthetic of it all, I'm falling in love all over again. THIS is why I love music. I'm picky af....I either think something is so emotionally and artistically and creatively groundbreaking AND catchy and weird and cool.....or it's just "other music." Other music can be amazing. Some of my favorite songs and artists are in that group. But the stuff I _really_ care about....is still like this. Gah....I need to just shut up and go back to listening. It's hard not to gush....surprisingly hard. :/
Imagine driving and seeing Ethel Cain twirling around on the side of the road
Imagine this playing through your car speakers while you're driving late at night during the summer. Perhaps through a long winding road in a desert.
the way she sings “please don’t love how i need you” melts me every time🫠🫠🫠
I love driving down the highway in the middle of the night with the windows down listening to this gorgeous masterpiece ❤️
More love needed for this one imo. the chorus is so stunning. the imagery the verses invoke. sooooo fucking good
the ending of this song is so deeply sad and for me the highest moment of the whole album :
Through these western nights
Crying in the light of the tv static
I’ll still be alright
Clinging onto you like some love blind addict
I’ll be screaming your name
Past the gas stations, trailing down the interstate
Please don’t love how i need you
And know that one day, you and i could be ok
I know! I felt that 😔
yes i love the ending
This was devestating... in the best way possible.
This is insanely beautiful. I love it so much. This and Family Tree are my favorites off the album, but it's altogether an amazing record.
This song deserves more recognition like 100000000 views 😮
This one needs more love. It’s so perfect to me. I really loved A House in Nebraska, but the more and more listens I took through the album this one really grabbed my attention through the beautiful melody and vivid lyrics.
If you say this artist doesn't need comparisons to anyone I would agree but after hearing how much she's mentioned in the same breath as Lana Del Rey I am truly drawn to the songs like this that bring me back to the dark, somber and ethereal music of peak Sarah McLachlans music. Ethel is a beautiful and unique hybrid of an artist that brings me back to things that are much needed in music and only then do you realize how sparse they are in todays music.
one of my faves on the album! love you, mother! 💕
definitely one of my favourite songs from her, what a religious experience...
This is just one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard and it's become a staple of my day. I look so forward to Preacher's Wife. The world is lucky to have you and your music in it!
absolutely fL*&^%$ beautiful. Ethel rocked my world. So different and deep and meaningful...and the voice, and the lyrics, and the music. Thank you.
love this part so much "all that's left are your walls and you'll die there" 3:47
These vocals are really giving me early 2000s eurodance vibes. Imagine these vocals with a Cascada kinda beat? Waiting for the remix!
wow ur mind....
holy shit yes.
ur mind omg...

It’s like mourning over a sweet girl who runs away or has lost her way and gets kidnapped in the process
God, I love this song so much! 😭💗💗💗
