That spring popped out when I was cleaning my vacuum. I literally tried for OVER AN HOUR trying to figure out how to put it back in! I don't think mine was ever properly installed. The beater bar would spin aginst the floor when the handle was vertical. When removing a string from the beater bar it fell off. I am glad I found this video.

It is suppose to look like/act like 0:37 - 0:40. If it doesn’t most likely it is a spring issue.
