Thanks again for Your Expertise with Chatter Baits & Swim Baits! Learning out in Western Nebraska fishing the I-80 Lakes around North Platte, Nebraska!!!
The video maybe a year old but another great one. Upgrading all my rods and tackle this winter so trying to get as much info as possible before I start buying. Thanks for all you do.
Thanks Matt. I just bought a glass rod for chatterbaits and haven't fished it yet but did make a few cast with it. I really did think I noticed more action in my chatterbait. A little worried about clearing grass thought.
That was a good approach even do I do not make my own rods and have no intention to do it. I simply try to apply some analogy with the different rods in the Market. Looking at the title you may start a series on what Rod/Reel/line to use into the most important/specific lures for Bass. Learning new little details on your videos. Thanks.
Im a big fiberglass rod guy with fast Action works great for me. Only got two carbon rod's that are okay but s not me. I've had better luck with softer rod's. I got people telling me that my rods are to soft but I get the bigger one's more often. Maybe I it let's them grab it better before I pull the rod on them and pull out the hook before the bass IS ON THE HOOK. To put them on lock down.
I went though errors using a cranking rod and coming unbuttoned with a chatter. Weighing many reviews and options I got an ALX chatterbait model and it's glass, a thick blank but its not a heavy rod at all. If fish really thick tons of hydrilla i have no problems burying it in it and ripping out cause its heavy power and a lot of back bone and fast action model with still parabolic tip and not whippy like a crankbait rod. Fish come up and from that back and suck it in and i hook them now with no problem like you said just start reeling.. been really pleased with that one so far. Great info..
Great video on a two very popular baits that are likely fished on the wrong setups frequently. I struggle to decide which rod to fish it on. I have a MH glass 7'4 Tatula, and a 7'3 MH Tatula. I bounce back and forth.
@Dan Hancuff Hi, I appreciate the input. The one I hooked jumped off next to my kayak, but I think he managed to get slack into the line. He was a dink, so it wasn't too bad.
100% accurate. I learned the hard way when I first started with the chatterbait…I kept missing fish due to a stout rod tip. I switch over to a medium heavy crankbait rod and haven’t lost a fish yet! Great insight!
Just picked up a shimano zodias 7'2 H glass blend for my 3/4-1oz chatterbaits and heavy spinnerbaits. Never owned a glass rod or glass blend rod so im excited to see how it fairs up. Haha that shamless plug line. The guppy heads are really good. Won the last month's giveaway and went to Michigan to get some smallies and it worked great.
Would I be able to cut down a blank by a couple inches? I’m wanting a MH or H mod like the one you use, but I’d want it to be a 7’3” and I’m having a hard time finding the exact size
Man, I definitely learned this the hard way. Could have used this info a few years ago haha. Great info, it will definitely help people land more fish. Also appreciate you mentioning the exact model rod, I’ll take a look at that one. Need one for my chatter baits.
Damn wasps, Matt this was perfect for me personally because I an starting to build my own rods and this info is awesome. I got my Mudhole master catalog and starting my ordering as we speak and cant wait to build that rod along with other technic specific rods, so this was timely info and much appreciated! Thanks.
I have a 7'4 MH Mojo Glass, and a slow speed Curado 200K with a Scorpion MGL spool. It's heavy compared to a composite or graphite rod, but I haven't lost a fish this season on a chatterbait because of the parabolic action. I was using a medium extra fast shimano compre last season for chatterbaits, and I lost quite a few when they'd jump.
Great info Matt, that was a dramatic intro 🤭. I’m sure all on here know about the Guppy heads, but here is my perspective in case a few have not tried them yet. The lead from the head continues down the shank of the hook keeps the swimbait parallel in the water when you stop your retrieve. This is deadly on deep bridge pilings, just cast past the piling you can just follow the line bowing the rod tip. When the line stops set the hook. The 3/8 oz 1/0 hook is my fav you can fish a 3.3” Kietech easily in 20 feet. Word on the street, TW has all weights, colors and hook sizes.
I have the Brett Hite Evergreen Chatterbait rod and the action is nice but the thing weighs a ton. I am trying to figure out which Shimano Expride would be a good fit for CB.
Love the knowledge you impart in your videos. Would benefit a great deal from more videos like this. In particular, from bank angler perspective - more rod choices that have solid bait pairings like you explain in this video. Bladed Jig & Swimbaits rod, + …. So when can we buy rods from you Matt? ;)
Maybe you'll tell us about "Lure" weights specified on rods? How important/precise are they? Merely points of reference? I only ... 'think' ... I know. Hoping you'll confirm or correct my thinking.
Unfortunately i can’t really say since I hack the used other brands. Maybe other subscribers could leave some comments here detailing which rods they like.
Matt I have a 7’ Med Heavy Moderate with a 5.4:1 I use for cranking and a 7’ Med Heavy Fast as well as a 7’ Medium Fast with a 7.5:1 I use for most other things. Which would you recommend? As always thanks for the great info! I watch everyday 😊
Are you sponsored by mudhole? Have you ever tried the bushido blanks from American tackle? Thanks again for the great detailed content. Future video about picking blanks to build Custom rods would be pretty cool.
Hey Matt I cant figure out who is all coming to Lacrosse for the Redcrest championship but I was fishing pool 7 Onalaska and ran into Tom Monsoor yesterday, anyway im a fan of yours and asked Tom about you and he says you got 2nd last week so congrats I guess your on the way here for Redcrest. Hey if you need hotel room we have them Dave Lefebre Tim Fredrick Pete T and others stay here quit a bit. You probably have a place but let me know if you need a room, I hope to chase you around a couple days well incognito I guess hope you win it good luck my man. Water lowest in 8 years should be interesting.
@@MattStefanFishing Hey Matt we just got a shit ton of rain today like 4-6 inches I would guess that will bring water up to 6 feet at some time. Of course I have lived here for 8 years and never seen 6 feet until this year so still low but a little hope for not ruining your lower unit be carefull around goose island stuff Stoddard your mapping routes from two years ago like 8 foot areas are lower unit time do to the floods the last 5 years and silting. I know you know but anything helps right ????
My favorite lures and the swing jeegs. Loved
Glad you like them!
Thanks again for Your Expertise with Chatter Baits & Swim Baits! Learning out in Western Nebraska fishing the I-80 Lakes around North Platte, Nebraska!!!
awesome!
thanks Matt. Your point about the soft tip allowing the chatterbait to hunt was an eye opener for me
Glad it was helpful!
Questions answered! Thanks Matt, and love the guppy heads....
Happy to help!
The guppy heads are the best imo. Used ghe Matt Allen heads and they're great but this guy's guppy heads are the fire. Love dirty jigs.

learning is always a good thing!

Fiberglass is completely different action than graphite

Definitely great blanks! The CB847 and 845 are awesome as well
Yes they are!
Great vid brotha 👍 I've been throwing your Guppy heads for years and love them! They are my go to's for all my small to medium swimbaits
Right on
I like a similar action rod for buzzbaits as well, the soft tip seems to let them get it better
yep!
Great video on a two very popular baits that are likely fished on the wrong setups frequently. I struggle to decide which rod to fish it on. I have a MH glass 7'4 Tatula, and a 7'3 MH Tatula. I bounce back and forth.
the blended rods are what you could get if you mixed your two rods togethor.
@@MattStefanFishing A blended rod is on my list of rods. I want a big swim bait rod too. I fish a chatter bait a lot here in NH.
@Dan Hancuff Hi, I appreciate the input. The one I hooked jumped off next to my kayak, but I think he managed to get slack into the line. He was a dink, so it wasn't too bad.
As always good info. Feather it through..... if guys focus just on that alone they'll be a better catcher by the end of season. Thanks for the vid.
No doubt!
Thanks for your input for my next rod
No problem 👍
100% accurate. I learned the hard way when I first started with the chatterbait…I kept missing fish due to a stout rod tip. I switch over to a medium heavy crankbait rod and haven’t lost a fish yet! Great insight!
Good stuff!
Great video and I love the composite rod that I use for my Chatterbait/Thunder Cricket
Good choice!

Great budget rod: Okuma Stratus VI. I throw my chatter baits and square bills with it. Just gotta upgrade the tip.
thanks for sharing!

Right on!
Great, as always, Matt. Thanks
My pleasure!
Always enjoy your videos thanks
Thanks for watching!
Very informative, Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
So one of the untold benefits of the softer rod is to let the chatterbait hunt better. I've never heard that anywhere else Matt.
it makes a big difference
Do they send out the rod to canada ?
i would think so!
What about a swim jig? I tend to fish them in same areas as chatterbait
I would not throw a swim jig on this setup. Mainly because it has a weedguard
Maybe you'll tell us about "Lure" weights specified on rods?
How important/precise are they?
Merely points of reference?
I only ... 'think' ... I know.
Hoping you'll confirm or correct my thinking.
good idea. ill add it to my video list
@Dan Hancuff Thanks Dan. I haven't the time nor $$ to discover that on my own.
Matt, for those of us who can’t make our own rods, what factory rod comes closest to the action of your build? Thanks, love your channel!
Unfortunately i can’t really say since I hack the used other brands. Maybe other subscribers could leave some comments here detailing which rods they like.
As always Matt i appreciate it 🙏
no problem

the moderate action would be better for chatterbaits

I have not tried them before
I like that trailer. What is it called

We need a picture of your “armor”
Haha! it works great in sub freezing temperatures and when battling wasps!
Speaking of rods, what's your favorite rod for jerkbaits?
