This video is a prime example of how experience and knowledge can come together to improve the use of a fishing technique.: I think good fishermen and women are naturally obsessive as well as tenacious. Those qualities, combined with a video like this that "does the homework for you" on a topic such as spinnerbaits (generally), sure cuts to the chase, and gets people of any bass fishing level and competency on the right track quickly, or serves to comfirm their own experience and knowledge.
I’m that guy. I had a 50+ bass day throwing a spinner bait a few years ago. It was amazing. I literally haven’t caught a single spinnerbait fish since that day. Thank you for the video Matt!
I caught my first bass on a spinnerbait about 4 years ago in the spring with white painted blades because you matt told us it was time to throw the painted blades. A 3lb 7oz bass in a public pond my p.b. at the time. Thanks for all you guys do.

@@dovejoshua Just last weekend I caught one on a green pumpkin color with a bluegill colored Kytec trailer, but most of the time its white with a little silver mixed in the skirt somewhere. I found one last year like I've never seen before so I bought it just because it was different. It has 4 smaller willow blades. 4-5 cast in the first time throwing it, i caught a 2½ lb bass

The first lure I ever caught a fish on was a spinnerbait. I caught 5 bass that day before the skirt got tore up. I was hooked for life and a spinnerbait has remained one of my favorite lures to use over most others ever since. That was 26 years ago.
Best spinnerbait video I’ve seen Matt. I don’t know if it’s a record for you, I caught my first bass on a spinnerbait in 1957 in a small farm pond, hooked from then on. Use to custom make my own. I watch different video’s of yours all the time. Yes, I’m a real antique! Thanks
Spinner bait is my first love and will always be my go to lure. Pond hopping with a single Colorado blade or duel willows. No trailer nor a stinger. A buzz bait is my second love.
Spinnerbait is my first confidence lure. Spinner can get through light grass and more weedless than a chatterbait. Awesome 35 minute seminar on spinnerbaits.

I have had all of my luck with $1 white Walmart spinner baits. I figured I'd try them, and because of the price I wasn't afraid to lose them if they got snagged. It's worth a try definitely
Just caught my first two spinnerbait fish before seeing your videos on them. I don't think anyones throwing them at this pond. Thanks for being such a great educator on lures and designs.
Awesome video Matt! You can definitely tell when you are extra excited about a particular lure category. I thought I had a bleeder fish in the afternoon but it turned out, my thumb was bleeding from shredding it on lipping spotted bass all day! I wish I would have thought of trying a spinnerbait but mine came on an 2.5 LC American Shad, hence the flash you mentioned since it was sunny and windy. Thanks again Matt.
Nichols is so underrated! If you order directly from their site you can customize the entire spinnerbait! Down to the skirt, each blade, colors, all of it, and there are a ton of options!
Great info as usual Matt. I’ve been one of those guys that has stopped using them for the most part, but going to pick it up again the next time I go out.
We fish in very grassy dams where i live in South Africa so a trailor hook doesn't work. If they short strike my spinnerbait i cast a 5 inch yum dinger to the same spot and MAN it works! I believe a follow-up bait like a senko is the money...Great video Matt. Would LOVE you guys coming to South Africa and fish with us mere mortals. Zure yoy will love the fishing here as the private dams i fish has no fishing pressure My son and i csught over 40 bass in 3 hours this past Saturday. Tight lines!!
I think the most important part of adding a swimbait is giving some surface area and book for the bass to vacuum in when they open their mouth. They will strike at the general source of the vibration but they will end up getting suction on the swim bait and therefore suck the hook into their mouth. I have experienced the same increase took a percentage just by adding a chunk of any random plastic onto the hook even if it’s shorter than the skirt and doesn’t really change the overall profile of the bait. So I think it’s more about suction than the visual look of the bait when the bass comes to strike

Glad to see you hitting on the Nichols Pulsator spinnerbaits. I just ordered about 4 of them, they should be here today. I even got one of the JT's Best Color Ever, figured it might be a great color here in Florida.
I agree I have boxes of spinnerbaits for smallmouth fishing. They never failed me and I always most of the time have a swimbait on the spinnerbaits I love the terminator
Great great video Matt! I love throwing a spinnerbait. You can flat out throw it where you can’t throw other baits. I like you find myself throwing white with double willow silver blades 90% of the time. I prefer NO trailer though. Unless I’m specifically targeting laydowns. Muddy I go chartreuse and white with a silver main blade and gold little blade. That’s it. You did make me go buy a bright orange with orange blades though! 😞. I fish the Potomac River and when it’s muddy, look out boys! Keep up the great work Matt! Your amazing at what you do.
Caught 40 on a chartreuse War Eagle screaming Eagle last trip out. Chartreuse blades, head and skirt. They bit that color way better than anything else. Made me a believer in chartreuse on a cloudy, windy day around grass.
I bought some War Eagle Screaming Eagles for creek smallmouth fishing for my area last year and I absolutely crushed them all year. You can truly catch bass from prespawn to the fall on a spinnerbait almost consistently, even during the rain if you wake the spinnerbait.
Just found your channel a few weeks ago and have already learned so much in a few videos. Do you have a video on what colors to throw in what weather/water conditions? If it matters ?
Another great trailer tip is to rig a 3.2 Kietech on a trailer hook all the way up to the eye, almost in the plastic, and put it on a spinner bait. The trailer comes out of the skirt right in the middle. Gives it a better baitfish profile from the side view. The skirt of a spinner bait usually runs higher than the hook and the trailer is hanging out the bottom of the skirt instead of being streamlined.
One thing people don't think about, no matter what type of soft plastic you use for a trailer, another reason hookups are better is because the bulk of the plastic allows them to suck in the hook, wich is why you don't need a trailer hook with a soft plastic on the bait. When that bass opens his mouth to get the bait it creates a suction, the plastic on the hook ensures that it will get the hook in it's mouth. Got 2nd place in a tough tournament on the Red River last month, I caught most of my weight on a spinnerbait.
Good tips and awesome footage here Matt. I wish you guys were around back when I was hanging out in tackle shops trying to con advice out of the old dudes. I feel you on spinner baits. I still love to hate spinner baits. I use to hate them with a passion until one year I decided I was going to learn them. I ended up with boxes and boxes of spinner baits too. Now, I can catch fish on a spinner bait pretty consistently. It's pretty cool, and funny when I can give friends the same spinner bait that I'm catching fish on, and they won't be able to "buy a bite".
My favorite trailer is a strike king cutter worm. War eagle finesse and boo yah covert are my favorites spinner baits. Definitely going to have to give some of these spinner baits a try
I had a hard time catching anything or getting any confidence with a spinnerbait for a long time, despite knowing they are a proven bait, and kind of stopped throwing them for a long time despite having several in my bag all the time, then handed one to my little brother the other day and he caught a 3lber right off the bat, so I threw it the next day I went out and caught a 4lb bass pretty quick. I'm a big chatterbait fan but I think i'll be throwing the spinnerbait more than before now, and definitely putting the knowledge here to good use.
I've caught my only 8lb bass on a spinner when I was a teen. I was just screwing around and mentioned to my buddy how the pros reel em in fast and pump them and then bam! Huge bass. Couldn't believe it.
I learned so much from this, something I found for myself throwing a spinnerbait in colder water is to put a fluke on the back to get a nice little flickering tail on it and I matched my bait to have smaller blades to match the threadfin in my like and with a full size profile within 10 minutes I jacked a 4
I went from those guy that doesn’t have confidence in Spinnerbaits to a die hard Spinnerbait fisherman a few years ago… also same here on those glitter blades 🔥🖤
This video really helped me out . I had no clue there were this many differences in spinnerbaits. I just bought one and only used it once without success . I was most definitely using mine wrong 😂
I love using low gear ratio when using a spinnerbait. It has worked for me and it's easier on my wrist. Let's resistance while reeling. Plus I used them without trailers for years. Still do on some. But I've recently started using one after watching these kinds of videos.
The beauty of the spinnerbait is it's ability to go over the top of logs. Where I fish used to be a log storage area for the lumbermills. Tons of logs down there. Drag that spinnerbait over the top of a log and then just let it fall and flutter down on the other side of the log.
Caught my first spinnerbait bass a couple days ago. A greenfish Firecraw red with gold/slvr blades. Caught a 3lbr. I’m one of those people that can’t seem to catch bass on spinnerbaits. That 3 lber was my first ever bass. Typically, I would tie on a spinnerbait when targeting pike, Muskie as my go to lure. ..... I’m making it a point this year to try and toss the spinner for bass. I bought a bunch of Nichols and greenfish spinner baits in bluegill, white, and shad colors. I’m gonna flip them around like jigs and run them into things.
Love your videos. You’re one of my favorites. That being said, I find myself laughing every time you say… “I’m just gonna tell you that” 😂 But definitely don’t stop saying that just because I’m picking on you a little bit. It’s just me pushing buttons. I do that to people I like and know they know it’s all in fun. I’m just gonna tell you that. Lol 😂 That might be my new saying. Keep the great videos coming man.

@@katiedolfman6496 3/8 oz or 1/2 oz should be good for most ponds/smaller lakes. I use medium heavy but you can do it on a medium.

Another great trailer tip is to rig a 3.2 Kietech on a trailer hook all the way up to the eye, almost in the plastic, and put it on a spinner bait.
Black and blue is my go to spinner color. They hit hard
Caught a my first 4 pounder with a spinnerbait and my PB 7 pounds is also on a spinnerbait. Its my favorite bass lure.
Loved this. Thanks from Ontario
New to the channel and loving the content, and systematic approach
I've caught my only 8lb bass on a spinner when I was a teen. I was just screwing around and mentioned to my buddy how the pros reel em in fast and pump them and then bam! Huge bass. Couldn't believe it.
Wow, can’t get better info . Ty Matt
very educational video, not dry and got me really motivated to get out there and find some hogs.
The art of little details . Thanks
I learned so much from this, something I found for myself throwing a spinnerbait in colder water is to put a fluke on the back to get a nice little flickering tail on it and I matched my bait to have smaller blades to match the threadfin in my like and with a full size profile within 10 minutes I jacked a 4
Another great video 🤙🔥
I went from those guy that doesn’t have confidence in Spinnerbaits to a die hard Spinnerbait fisherman a few years ago… also same here on those glitter blades 🔥🖤
Sub 40 degrees I throw red and white skirts with brass spoons let ‘em hit the bottom, 20-25’
Good Info Brother !! I luv throwing a spinnerbait :-) Nothing like watching one chase it and NAIL IT ...
Great information keep up the good work
This video really helped me out . I had no clue there were this many differences in spinnerbaits. I just bought one and only used it once without success . I was most definitely using mine wrong 😂
The megabass tk twister and tk jr have become my favorite trailer. It's subtle, but has some heft to fill the skirt out.
I love using low gear ratio when using a spinnerbait. It has worked for me and it's easier on my wrist. Let's resistance while reeling. Plus I used them without trailers for years. Still do on some. But I've recently started using one after watching these kinds of videos.
Excellent info brother. Thank you
Thanks Matt, huge help, also love them sv3, pricey but cool.
Not going down the spinner bait blade types today means video coming to you soon 🤙🏻🤙🏻
caught my 1st double digit on a spinner bait in 1989 in water temp of 41 degrees .The Stanley spinner bait has always been a stand out for me
The beauty of the spinnerbait is it's ability to go over the top of logs.
That being said, I find myself laughing every time you say… “I’m just gonna tell you that” 😂
But definitely don’t stop saying that just because I’m picking on you a little bit. It’s just me pushing buttons. I do that to people I like and know they know it’s all in fun.
I’m just gonna tell you that. Lol 😂
That might be my new saying.
Keep the great videos coming man.
