For me Band-Maid, especially Miku, is the definition of strong women. They show you can be kick ass hard rockers and still look feminine and cute! You can also rock with uplifting lyrics! One of many reasons I love them. Western music is very doom and gloom or a stupid love song. Miku writes lyrics that make you think a little bit. Not necessarily all positive but I'd say encouraging! Encourages you to get through the bad to make the good.
I cannot upvote this enough - although I think there is a place for both doom & gloom and stupid love songs. Also a place for female musicians who don't want to be stereotypically feminine - or who do, or who want to split the difference. The amazing thing about Band-Maid is that they do all these things simultaneously, even though that would seem to be contradictory at first. It's not, and we should appreciate how they show us that all the customary preconceptions AND the reactions to them are kind of narrow-minded.

You were talking about abuse, and how you have overcome it. And I thought, men just don't understand what they are losing when they betray the woman they have once loved. I like that image, coming from Persian poetry, that men are twigs and women are leaves. Men don't see the light, only leaves perceive the sun, convert the sunlight into sweet sugar and feed it to the twigs. So, the meaning of life for men, the twigs, is to support the leaves, the women. On the other hand, women need men in their lives for stability. Women usually don't betray their men, it's the men who are sometimes so stupid and weak that they can't support the leaves that rely on them. And if men can't support the leaves which happen to be sticking to them at a certain moment, they are dead boughs, their lives are meaningless. Miku Kobato is one of the deepest philosophers of our time. Her lyrics are very profound and strike a deep chord in our souls. Thanks for your analysis!

Yes, they are the best female hard rock band... but many of of us would say the best hard rock band today, period. The Tiny Pigeon writes most of the lyrics. You know that, I just wanted to underline it because she is one tough little bird and standing back up after getting knocked down so many times. She is not a silver spoon child. She is from working class. To go to Tokyo and try her hand at showbiz, she worked two jobs for over a year and saved up, barely sleeping. She is amazing and that determined resilience is all through her writing. "Different" has a madcap feel for a reason. It was written as a theme song for the "Log Horizon" anime series. Imagine a small group of people being trapped in a strange world with monsters and dragons and who knows what else trying to kill you. You have to focus on vigilance, being deadlier than your attackers, and trying to find your way home without bringing these things with you. Constant chaos, action, life threatening challenges. That is the storyline the song speaks to. Meantime... I saw a trailer for the show on YT. At one point a dragon charges at a seemingly helpless little Maid character. She makes a move so fast it can hardly be seen and her attacker falls lifeless to the ground. Quite clearly a tribute to the Maids and to Miku in particular. The cartoon looks just like her. Because the Maids are always more badass than anyone expects.

I am lucky to have lived a decent life without a lot of toxic relationships. But I know there are a lot of people struggling with that. I love Band Maid and how they have bought to light a new way of being a rocker. These ladies are super feminine on and off stage and don’t follow the typical broken jeans , full of tattoo’s, piercings all over and actually let their talent and music speak for them. For that they are sure one of the recent top Bands out there , I wouldn’t compare them by gender and say they are better than bands that men play in. Musicians are not divided by this standard . Men and women in music are spectacular in every way and have a mutual respect for each one’s craft. We have to be pro active towards everyone’s equality and look at what brings us together rather than not. Let’s all be better humans. We’re all great . ❤️
