Kanami thought the album was complete...that is until Saiki told her she should include an instrumental !🤯 Well...here we are...Thank you, Miss Picc-olo ! ❤️
I don't know if you have heard or read, but PRS guitars honored Kanami with her own signature guitar. It is gorgeous. There are several videos with Kanami introducing her new guitar to the world. Only 200 will be made, and all 200 were pre-ordered in the first 24 hours after it was announced. That's respect for her creativity and talent. This is such a well deserved honor for Kanami!
"Get To The Top" is their mission in life. Band-Maid, to their credit, never feels satisfied that they can't do anything else. That's why we Maidiacs love them.
Thanks! 🥳CONGRATULATION 🎉 For finishing your first BAND MAID Album….Thank you for this Wonderful story & journey. Grab some Ice-cream for yourself 🥲🥳, here is summer now so that’s all I can think of😁. ‼️ ANY PLAN OF KNOCKING OUT ANOTHER ALBUM‼️take care! ….🕊️❤️💙💚💛💜🐦PO
Glad to see you having so much fun with this one! And yes, we all love our Sai-chan so very much, but we also love these instrumentals. The fans love them, I'm sure the Maids love them and of course, they give Saiki a chance to rest her voice during Okyu-ji. It's a win, win, win. This one is great! They never fail us. I've never seen such sustained, constant excellence from any band. Just incredible! We are very lucky to be able to witness and enjoy this miracle band.
I am in Shibuya-ku right now. Will be seeing Band-Maid at Zepp Haneda tonight and tomorrow night. They never do the exact same show twice. Will be seeing another great three piece band Asterism a few days later right here in Shibuya.
I am aware that fans like me can go over the top over the few bands I loved. My personal classic albums go back a long way. A couple from the Sixties. then a Black Sabbath album and The Eagles each had an album I count as a personal classic. Then we have Band Maid. To me they don't have a weak song or album. As I just finished listening to Epic Narratives for the umpteenth time I am pleased I checked to see you finish the album. As a piece of work it is a classic. It does make me feel all the emotions. It tells their story. Personally loved the Saiki inspired instrumental finish to the album. I run out of things to say and run out of emotions. Albums don't usually make me sad, happy, smile and warm and fuzzy all in one listen. I am not a very emotional person. Bar Humbug Bob Cratchet. But this bunch of musicians. Well they just make a bad day into a good day. It is great as well that a musician can share in this delight and express it as well as you do. The love of music and this band does make such a difference.
glad you enjoyed the instrumental. i am always excited to see what space they explore in each iteration. you should listen to the entire album in order start to finish. it tells a wonderful story. the order is definitely intentional. it is an absolute joy to listen to.
For me BAND MAID is more than a Band. It is a story. It is a journey. I’m not a music/song person. I became Thier fan because of OKYUJI(music/songs/MC/Omajinai Time). Since I became a fan, something really interesting or pull me towards Them & I always thinking about are THE NAMES OF THEIR SONGS and Albums’ Name. Eg… INSTRUMENTAL: Don’t be long Without holding back Onset From now on Get to the top( when I reading these, it’s sort of journey) ALBUM: Maid in Japan(2014) New Beginning (2015) Brand New Maid(2016) Just Bring It(2017) World Domination(2018) Conqueror(2019) Unseen World(2021) -(Unleash) Epic Narrative(2024)… when reading this, doesn’t seem like Their Dream?, Journey?& Story. It is BEAUTIFUL, Isn’t it? Or Maybe just me overthinking 🤷🏻♀️
Welcome Home Awesome Princess NittPicc! I missed picking on you last Sunday a little bit. I hope you are having a wonderful "vacation" and are feeling much better. One of the main reasons I love Band Maid so much is that they don't put any filler songs to round out their albums or EPs, not even on the B-sides to their singles. A lot of bands will put out an album with from 1 to maybe 4 good songs on it at most, or the B-sides tiheir singles are just throw-away songs. Band Maid can't seem to record a mediocre song at all, they are all treasures.
EN is an excellent album, I've been very entertained with it for two months. In my opinion the best song to close the album was TAMAYA but, hey, who am I to contradict Saiki. The album is very varied: an instrumental, two collaborations, two animes, a song for Miku, a power ballad, mid tempo songs a la Conqueror and other more frenetic ones and even a kind of rhapsody (Forbidden Tale, very few rock groups dare to try this genre)... with DOZENS of powerful riffs everywhere. Who gives more for less? Of course, it can't be said that the girls stay in one place for long. Thanks NittPicc!
Great reaction and Kanami is known for pushing her band mates, making Miku sing higher, making Akane drum with three arms, make MISA get out front and get over her shyness and making Saiki push her voice to higher ranges, but she seems to reserve herself for the most punishment. She just writes her parts to always push herself to higher levels.
Normally, Kanami-san composes with the idea that Saiki-san will be singing so she is always surprised whenever Sai-chan requests an Instrumental. In Unleash she asked for from now on and placed it at track #1. This time she told Mincho-chan that the album doesn’t seem finished without one. So here it is. 😊
The instrumental Don't Be Long is the B-side to Different. This instrumental was written to get Miku accustomed to playing the chord progressions on Different ! Leave it to Kanami to turn a teaching moment into an awesome instrumental ! 🤯
Welcome home, ojōsama! Get to the Top is pure adrenaline. But I totally agree that Band-Maid is never about just about speed or chaos or complexity. There is always (to coin a phrase ;-) an epic narrative behind everything that connects the dots. I'm also with you about Kanami's classical training. She really understands classical form, exposition, motivic development, coda, etc. She may not use those terms anymore, but it's definitely in her bones.
The music and execution in EN is sophisticated and delightfully listenable. But the lyrics, and concepts they're based on, put it at the epic level. So I agree, Nitt Picc. Welcome back! 🫡
Good to see that you're fully recovered!, sundays aren't the same without NittPicc's Band-Maid sunday lol It's funny you mentioned Saiki because this song exists thanks to her. In a recent interview to promote Epic Narratives, Saiki confirmed that the band "wrapped up" the album with the previous 13 songs, but she said that she felt something was missed, so she asked Kanami to compose an instrumental to give the album a real feel of "grand ending". Kanami obviously accepted the challenge and that's how Get to the Top was made...
After listening this instrumental for so many time,i think this is the best of all their instrumental. Why? because this song show their talent up to another level.I love Whitout holding back and other their instrumental but the creativity in this one is soooo good
MISA once said that she doesn't like to play the same when repeating the melody - and she also mentioned that this is an overload for her, as she has to rehearse extra material for each music.
I know you would love It’s crazy how they keep topping there instrumentals ever time I am like there’s no way they make one even better then the last one I love all there instruments onset ,without holding back ,don’t be long, from now on,get to the top…..I always ask myself how are they going to top that song and they do each and every time …this album is epic not just because of the name of the album there’s not a one bad song on there or one that I would skip the maids made something truly special 🤘🏻🫶🏼🤘🏻
Miss Nitt Picc as always thank you for your reaction. I loved this song and as I responded to an earlier comment it sounds like a jam session but one that is sooo good. I would love to be a fly on the wall during their practice sessions it would be oh so good. Have a good thanksgiving break and take care.
Band-Maid is known for their transitions... but this song seems like it's just one thing after another in a continuous flow. Welcome back(take care of yourself first, please) and thanks for the reaction!
One of my favourites on the album, and appropriate one to react to after the fantastic news about Kanami's signature PRS! I have a slightly left-field suggestion, but I know you like folk instruments from around the world so hopefully it'll interest you. Hinech Yafa by Light in Babylon, who are an East Mediterranean folk band featuring a santur (hammered dulcimer) player. They were buskers on the streets of Instanbul when the street-perfomance I'm recommending went viral (28M views) and they're now a highly respected band, though I only discovered them a couple of weeks ago. I can't stop listening to them and I think they're going to be the second biggest musical discovery of my adult life after Band-Maid and the Japanese scene in general. They're a great story too. They're all from different countries (their vocalist alone is Iranian-Israeli!) and they didn't share a common language when they started, but they instantly had a chemistry playing together. That's where the name Light in Babylon comes from, referring to the Tower of Babel story.
Unfortunately he is long dead, but I think that there is only one artist that Band Maid could collaborate with now without having to dumb it down. The great Frank Zappa. I feel that he is the only person who could ever have fully comprehended how Kanami's musical mind works, and vice versa.
Totally agree, good point. I'm sure Frank and Kanami would have had a great exchange of musical thoughts if they would have had the chance to meet. Frank also often referred to two great classical composer as big influences - Igor Stravinsky and Edgard Varèse and some Bela Bartok and Anton von Webern as well. I'm sure they would have clicked. Frank Zappa is still one of my musical heroes - Kanami included in this Olymp of composer and musicians of course.
Loved your reaction. I describe the genius of Kanami very inadequately in this poem. Our guitar queen, the little genius... She shreds, Kanami destroys her guitar... Genius composer; rock star queen!
When I doubt myself when I say BandMaid is the greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century it troubles me. That's a pretty global statement. How can anyone in their senses make such a crazy claim. Then you hear music like this. Get the f@ck outta here with that IMHO shite. That's greatness! Their drive to achieve MORE is just part of their greatness but it certainly is overarching in their art. Every part of BandMaid is exquisite. Image, marketing, composition, skill, work ethic and customer care - greatness is where they begin. Thanks NittPicc for listening with us. I need a nap after that. Maybe some of Uncle Chris' nerve medicine that comes in a big bottle with red wax at the top!
First, I would like to say how much I enjoy your reactions, not only to Band-Maid, but to the other videos I have seen you react to. It is great to hear someone with musical knowledge explain what it is we are hearing that makes it so pleasing to the ear. Since you have finished Epic Narratives, I would like to make a reaction request. It is not a true Band-Maid request, but it is Band-Maid related. The request is for the song Tactics by Kohta Yamamoto. It can be found on his UA-cam channel. This song , I believe, is for the opening credits of an anime called The Most Notorious Stalker. It is Band-Maid related because Saiki is the vocalist. In most of the song she uses her natural chest voice, deep and sultry. She sounds amazing. Even if you don't react to it, you need to give it a listen.
I've heard the reason why they decided to make an instrumental. It's for Saiki. Since they are playing hard rock music, it's a tough for Saiki to keep singing for 2 hours live. So in order to give some break for Saiki during the live, they started playing instrumentals in their live. Nowaday, they insert an instrumental and Miku's song in the middle of their live. Oh, and this is not for Saiki, but Miku always has Omajinai Time for herself during their live. lol.
Hola señorita! Do you listen to Polyphia by any chance. They originate out of Wichita Falls, I believe. They have a track ft. Steve Vai called Ego Death and the bend stuff Kanami-san played reminds me of it. ☺️
That main riff is too frenetic for me. There are only two or three songs from them that make me jittery and this is one of them. It has some amazing bright spots but the overall feel isn’t my thing.
I see what you mean SJ. However, Saiki wanted an instrumental to close out the album that Kanami thought was done. To me, this is simply a jam session by four extremely talented musicians. I suppose they have jammed countless times without recording it. I'm glad this one made it to the album ! 🤯
@ I don’t hate it, it’s just my least favorite instrumental. This whole album is a bunch of highs and lows for me but it IS growing on me. Kanami thought the album was complete...that is until Saiki told her she should include an instrumental !🤯 Well...here we are...Thank you, Miss Picc-olo ! ❤️
Most artists use their solos as just a chance to show off. But The Maids use their instrumentals to tell you a story. All you have to do is listen.

Some of Kanami's Guitar parts in Get To The Top remind me a lot of Joe Satriani.
