    Nice post guys I really enjoyed it. I liked all the tips also. One thing I did on mine was to remove the seam divider on the back between the two back pads. This makes a nice pocket to put your camelbak into or rain jacket and you can still use it to stow away your pack straps when needed.

    • @robertsbushcraft
      @robertsbushcraft  4 роки тому

      So it in fact does make one big pocket? We thought it would! That's a pretty good idea and one we might just try out, thanks, Roy!

    This is the best assault pack ever issued for the guys in the US military for sure. Tough quality with convenience.
    I added a battle belt to the waist strap to transfer weight to my hips. Man...it is way more comfortable. You should try it!

    • @robertsbushcraft

      Agreed! I picked up the ILBE Assault pack and then put it right back down, it pales in comparison to the FILBE Assault pack. I'll try out the battle belt suggestion, that sounds promising!

    Been watching so many of your videos while I've been off work these past months, been really enjoying them. I had a military dad but he never did much camping with me, he just sent me away on backpacking expeditions for the whole summer when I was a teen LOL. Still grateful for those trips though. You two make excellent videos, thanks for all the info you share.

    ... other than water proofing the gear by placing them in a heavy duty garbage liner, along with jumbo zip bags for smaller items, it would be nice if the entire 3 day assault pack was water proof, hence, allowing for a better floatation device. Semper Fi, Combat Marine

    A good tourniquet is the CAT tourniquet and maybe throw in an Isreali Bandage or two. Put them both in a MOLLE mag pouch, or 5.11 makes a nice med pouch, i think it's called the Ignitor. Was that a drone used for the river crossing? That was awesome. I wonder if Seal Line makes a dry bag that fits pretty closely to the size of the Assault pack's main compartment. I've been planning on getting the Seal Line bag made for my ILBE main rucksack and a couple of MACS sacks as well. For the money, you can't beat them. I found the Klymit Static V Recon insulated pad in a mil spec color factory refurbished on eBay for 45 bucks each. I bought two, and they looked brand new. Just thought I'd let you guys know about it. Thanks for another awesome video guys.

    • @robertsbushcraft
      @robertsbushcraft  4 роки тому +2

      To my knowledge the bag being used inside of the FILBE assault pack is the same as the one used in the ILBE assault pack, it's NSN 8465-01-560-6727 named "ILBE Waterproofing Bag - Assault Pack". The Seal Line main ruck waterproof bag turns your main pack into a barge! The CAT tourniquet and Isreali bandages are definites and I hope to have several soon (Christmas is coming!) My Dad, Curry, has the Klymit Static V insulated pad (orange not the recon) that he picked up refurbished from Ebay for about that same price and he keeps his in the FILBE assault pack front pocket. Dad was using a drone for the river crossing, it's an older model Autel Nexstar Premium. Thanks for your time in watching and comment, Joey!

    • @robertsbushcraft
      @robertsbushcraft  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Ralph! We'll keep that idea in mind for a ripstop or a canvas type bag. I'm not sure how easy it is to keep Gore-Tex water proof along hand-sewn seams but it might be worth a shot. Gear rips in the field and we need to know how to repair it, right?

    The 20$ "Amazon's choice" version of this is identical in every way from a use standpoint. The zippers are plastic, but I've run it 12 hours a day for 5 years now and never broken anything.
    I actually prefer my amazon 20$ pack to the the assault pack I was issued in the corps.

    Great informative video. Q: does your FILBE have a frame? Which frame are you using? Thanks, keep up the good job. Stay safe.

    • @robertsbushcraft
      @robertsbushcraft  4 роки тому

      The FILBE main pack does in fact have a frame it is the original issue frame. Since this frame's issue there has been an upgrade due to the frame breaking in high-stress places under extreme cold weather conditions. We'll probably change ours out at some point but we're in no rush. North Carolina is not an extreme cold environment and we've had zero issues with our frames. The 3 Day pack does not have a frame, it only has a plastic insert that somewhat holds the packs shape. That insert if not trimmed back slightly will wear holes into the bottom corners of your pack. Thanks for watching, Rei!

      Bro I'm getting a filbe ruck soon and I'm 14 and quite small. If you believe you are to small I think you should look at a medium alice pack or a medium molle backpack
      You could also have a look at non military issue backpack because when it comes to military surplus it tends to uncomfortable and heavy.
      Basically do your own research and maybe look for another military back pack.
      Also if you do end up getting a mil-spec bag take a look at the buyer reviews, the quality of the pack, is it legit, is it what you're looking for, etc
      (Side note) search up filbe rucksack and there will be a ton of info on the pack and how to set it up
      Basically make sure you would be happy with the pack when you actually have it and don't get a crappy one. And if it makes you happy getting this bag then who cares what I say just have fun.
