You know nobody really cares if you guys give this book bad reviews right? I've seen people who are bigger and smaller comic fans than this guy, give better reviews for both of them. Do you honestly think that this guy's review is the absolute truth? Reviews are just opinions bro, no one's going to lose sleep over it at least of all the guy who made the book. Hell I read both of them, I didn't mind them, I actually enjoyed them, and I've seen plenty of other people basically say the same thing, I've heard these talking points about how you say the writer can't take criticism (which at this point I'm noticing is more of a projection than anything else) but clearly there are a lot of people that are buying them even this day and actually enjoying them, so....obviously people don't agree with you or him. 🤷

The biggest thing both comics lack is emotional impact. What's worse is that big emotional impact pay offs are set up but then the writing fumbles on the 1 yard line. Why Isom quit should have been a flashback that can parallel to that reason. Like he's about to lose a fight and someone will get hurt so he remembers the past and says "no, never again." Then find the strength to win. Instead it's just his old tailor buddy nonchalantly asking "so why you quit before? Oh that sucks well here's your suit."

One of Eric’s shills defended saying they aren’t really comic readers in that level so reviewing it would be redundant

They decidedly do not talk about it or say anything related to it being good or bad. They wear the shirts and tell you they preordered it with their own money, but hey never say "Isom #2 came in the mail today and I read it cover to cover and couldn't put it down because it was so darn good". All you hear from them is Isom is great. Nothing else. 4 diehard comics lovers that can tell you issue, year, writer, penciler, inker, and colorist on every issue for years, but won't give an opinion on Isom. I think that tells you what they really think of it.

Sadly that won't happen especially considering the disgraceful act of how Eric's grandfather's grave was discredited. also, Isom is his grandfather's name, meaning the comic book Isom means a lot to him, hence why I sensed his disagreements on the criticisms of Isom aren't going so well.

Eric had always annoyed me but when this started I tried to be on his side. It felt like this started with people attacking the story to cover for other issues they had, whether that’s dick being a dick or Vito being jealous of his success. However the response immediately soured me to that stance. I still believe that but I just can’t support a child. This review seems fair but I wonder if Eric being Eric doesn’t bias anyone reviewing it. If he had chick Dixon ghost write the third book, would people still have the same problems with the writing. I guess chuck could make those mistakes but I doubt it. I think that would be an excellent experiment for Eric but I don’t think his ego would allow the possibility. This whole to thing seems so silly to any normal person. Had Eric just said hey I’ve never written a comic before so I’ll listen and try to improve, I think most people would turn grant him the learning curve. But his ego ultimately won out. He just slightly annoyed me before, but I actively dislike him now. It’s not the ego that made me dislike him, tons have that flaw. It’s the whole treatment of Nick and evs. Then recently on twitter some of his nutcase fans came out calling evs and Nick racist. Which it’s just a dipshit fan whatever. But then I saw Eric jump in the thread and argue with critics of this tactic. He was arguing about something unrelated but the fact that he was there tells me he saw the stuff and the fact that he didn’t try to correct it tells me he’s okay with sjw tactics of calling his critics racist. Any tiny support for him left in me ran out then

Basically, in any movie (good or bad) or even any comic book, a flashback that happens after a scene is directly related to that scene. It's pretty basic storytelling. Isom SHOULD be flashing back after some conversation regarding why he retired. It creates a narrative continuity that the reader's brain naturally follows. Looks like eric didn't respect the continuity though.

    • @OhNoJeszilla
      @OhNoJeszilla  8 місяців тому +8

Exactly! Flashbacks to the past don't really bother me when its later in the story (See my reference to The Goon). When it's early on, it always feels to me like it should have just been how the story started. I read Berserk recently and one of my problems was how Guts's back story is revealed after three volumes and then takes up about 1/3 of the series. I know with how manga is serialized it was a couple years before it was revealed but with how it takes up a great deal of the story, I feel that series should have began with a baby born from a corpse.

13:11 THIS. Forced worldbuilding and story subplot overload perhaps the biggest problem. Moreso than world building, a lot new character introductions to serve as launch pads for other books. So they're
not there to serve the story, they are advertisements. Pick a main plot, maybe a B plot and stick with it, keep it simple.
Even then the actions of the characters dont make sense. Why did aavery go back to the ranch after getting his suit? The ranch being attacked by demon monkeys should have been the cliffhanger for the next arc. It would make more sense for Avery to have stayed in the city to protect his family. He didnt even have a sense of urgency to find Sam.
Its implied Avery can heal fast as Goodying points out how his shoulder wound healed fast thinking it was the ointment. If he can heal fast why would he need to rest? What is the extent of his healing abilities?
Here's the big rearranging you would do, if you HAVE to have Avery falling asleep, rhats when you continue the flashback to the Chadran attack. But no, we need Larry Shungite.
Alphacore, these 3 goofballs are in charge of law enforcement in post seperation Texas? They just dont have that sense of powerful authority figures.
Goodying, just lame. Lame design, lame robots designs. A lab that looks about the same as the room Alphacore was in. Btw, if Avery is paying Goodying for services, why didnt Goodying offer to let Avery use a flying robot to get to Blood Ruth's castle faster? Oh wait no we needed the Ford F 150 commercial.
Art is dull, flat, doesnt have that wow factor. A lot of repetive head angles which contributes to an overall sense of boringness, proof: twitter. com/thomasroiloup/status/1711232614881697793?t=aOtocqPD4ZQgYlvB3xKkdA&s=19

Isom 2 should've been about a pissed-off Darren framing Avery and siccing Alphacore on him. Avery is more than a little rusty but wouldn't be able to take on all of them at once anyway. So he's laying low and trying to clear his name with the help of his man in the chair who just so happens to come across vital information pertaining to Yaira whom Alphacore are gunning for. Avery offers up said information in return for being let off the hook, Alphacore agree and get to showcase their ethics by returning the handsome paycheck they received to Darren.
Isom 3 can strengthen the connective tissue with an Alphacore/Isom team-up. They're hard at work tracking down Yaira who's been cutting a swath of destruction across America and must be contained. Whenever they interrogate witnesses or encounter her directly she seems confused as though she weren't quite herself. Tie it back to Darren who discovered her - either unearthing her ancient tomb or bagging and tagging her once she crash-landed on Earth with a fuzzy memory of both her home planet and her identity - and has been manipulating and gaslighting her in pursuit of an artefact that could bring a relative of his back from the dead. But wielding said artefact could pierce the veil to the Great Beyond and attract uninvited guests into our realm - a natural entry point for Bloodruth and those literal Metal Gods, which could and should be explored in depth in Yaira, Goodyng and Bloodruth solo comics.

In ISOM #3 he'll have to face the consequences of his actions in ISOM #1, maybe we'll see a team up with him and Lincoln in the finale.

@@ericm1839 with Yaira and AlphaCore, their events just happened to be happening alongside his and he gets tangled up with them briefly. Lincoln seems to be important to ISOM's story going forward and he did come prepared for the ambush (metal detector scene), so I wouldn't count him out but he does hold an interest in the wrestling promotion.
Bloodruth will deal with the Hellions since Avery has secured Sam's safety thus tying up that plotline. Goodyng serves the people of shadow valley who don't get much in the way of reliable public services, I reckon his stories will be standalone plots.
Darren firing Santwan could be his undoing since both he and Avery are prideful individuals, Avery will swallow his pride and accept help whereas Darren won't. Which will lead to his downfall as Mick Davies closes in on him wanting to make a meaningful difference.
Remember that ISOM is not just the first issue of a new Superhero, but also a launching pad for a whole universe. Eric has to balance out world building with storytelling which isn't easy to do, one thing writers need to avoid is exposition dumping and making their comics wordy.
So far Eric has done a good job in my opinion, but I can see room for improvement. I hope that ISOM #3 can tie up the main story of the arc and gives us a new perspective on the last 2 issues when we reread them.

I think things will get deadly serious in part 3 and Eric is taking advice from Chuck Dixon with how to write certain things. As Chuck puts it, Eric has talent as a writer so let's see how he grows with each project under his belt.

The idea of paying fair market value for everything and only providing exactly what was contracted for ahead of time, it's very Randian. It's also pretty much the exact opposite of how traditional superheroes operate.

Abandoning trying to be perfect refers to performances because music itself is only alive during the moment it is played and when you improv or jam some times mistakes will be made, cues will get missed, notes will be sour.
The lyrics on the record, studio recording in general and the written word are all things that require refinement because of their pursuit for the ideal. There are bands who gave up on trying to "be perfect" in the studio simply because they weremt able to capture the same magic that happened during live shows. The Grateful Dead are a perfect example of this.

You should drastically lower the volume to the 8 bit music. I found that shit incredibly distracting and annoying while trying to hear your review.

Yeah, that's been a common complaint. I'm still learning about editing and trying to figure out the proper levels has been a problem. I wear headphones when mixing the audio and it didn't sound nearly as loud as the final product turned out to be. This video taught me to do a test viewing both before and after I export the final file.

This was never going to be an actually good comic. The entire pretense was political it was never about the comic itself. It was Rippa capitalizing in people not happy with current comic stories. It was more about making $ from the sucker that hate "woke" comics. Rippa had no other reason to make these comics. Sad because with competent writers and an Artist that actually cared could have berm a sharp stick in the rye to modern hack writers. Just look at the names of these characters to see how no one cared about the story or stories. Jeez a five year old could thunk of better names.

It's average. I wonder what this comic would look like in B&W because the electronic coloring and inking is shit. Needs to find a better artist.

ISOM is a good comic. It's an inspiring message to the LGBTQIA2S+ community on what to do when someone disrespects them. The Rainbow community should 'pull-up' to the warehouse of Eric July and the gravesite of his ancestors to twerk their support for the Rippaverse.

Everyone hating on dude for being creative and just trying to do something different that will be better than what is out already. He just started give him 5 years like with any business just starting, either it will progress positively or it won't and his business will go bust, but, doing what it is you are doing is only trying to hurt his business on purpose. Grow up.

@MartinMartin-bh4ke more so than your hating arse. At least I know how to be respectful to him. You noticed this clown with the channel didn't start making videos until he came along, it is either on purpose or he knows him irl and has beef and throwing out hate on him so he fails on purpose. Like I said grow up kiddo.

Eric possibly being a better writer in five years doesn't help him now or make a previously bad story suddenly good. Why are you so threatened by someone who disagrees with you?

    • @brightlord-ov7cm
      @brightlord-ov7cm 7 місяців тому +1

@Jeszilla I'm not threatened at all kiddo, you created this channel to directly disparage Eric for no other reason. It is sad that people like you are threatened by the fact somebody is more creative than you and it is why you can't cope with it. BTW I agree that you have moronic opinions.

Say I heard from the grapevine that you went to Eric July's great grandfathers grave, and took a picture of yourself doing that just to troll, is that true? Because if it is "and i'm speaking as an onlooker" that wasn't funny, that was a very scummy and cowardly thing to do, especially if you wore a mask while you did it. You don't have to like his books, but the fact that you harass him and his fans just to laugh at them is what a bully does, and it wasn't just his fans that found it disrespectful, surprisingly they were onlookers, other comic book writers, and even some of the antis agree as well. By trying to make him into a joke, you ended up becoming an alogger. That alone makes me not want to subscribe to you. You can accuse me of whatever it is you want "I've noticed a lot of antis seem to do that to anyone who disagrees with them even the slightest" it's always just a joke until it ends up not being one, I enjoy dark humor I won't lie to you, but that's mostly in fiction, stuff like that in real life is just harsh 🤦 Get help.
