Slip-ons only make noise, don't waste your money on them. Go with a full exhaust systems if you want to make more power. An added benefit of full systems is that you can remove that 6lb crossover and throw it out the window. Like Lemmy said, less weight equals more power. You will also need to upgrade the air cleaner because the pipes will need more air. And you will need to get a new fuel map. I like the Vance and Hines FP3, they come with a phone app and you can perform a remap in 1/2 hour, no experience required. They have excellent customer support incase you have exotic pipes or AC. My system ran about $1,900 all in and the bike performs, looks and sounds awesome. Remember to use anti seize on the O2 sensor threads and always chase the threads on the bungs of the new pipes or you may damage the threads of the O2 sensors (don't ask me how I know...). Then you will want hot cams, performance hydraulic lifters, quickie pushrods and get your heads ported. That should do it for now... Great vid Lemmy, keep them coming brother!
Hi guys, Another great video from Lemmy and the team - it's REALLY appreciated! I was all about getting some short shots for my Sportster, but living and working in a city the UK I think they'll be more trouble than they're worth with the police. The Cobras sound fantastic on the over-run, so I think I may end up getting them instead! Thanks again!
Less than 5 minutes into this video and I have already subscribed. Lemmy you obviously knows your s***f and you do a superb job communicating it!! You answered my priority question (performance) before I even had a chance to ask it. However, because this is so informative I'm going to watch the entire video. Thank you Lemmy, you not only get the thumbs up you get the sale! Keep up the good work!!
Loved the video! Great job. I wish you would've talked about the stock head pipes having catalytic converters and how that affects performance (and maybe justifies a full exhaust replacement over slipons?)
Wish I can get a clear cut dyno comparison. I’m looking for the best power gains thru the whole RPM range. I’ve seen the slip ons dyno comparison but not full exhausts. I’ve heard V&H short shots rob a lot of power low-mid n are actually worse then stock and also heard it was the best system for 1200s with the most power gains thru the curve. I’ve heard some full systems are about the same as the top slip ons in terms of power gains. I WANT THE MOST POWA! 😭 getting an air cleaner and fuelpak but stuck on the exhaust. I want to make the most out of this stage 1. I’m looking at short shots, two brothers, and bassani road rage. I love the short shots look & price but I’m thinking the 2-1s will be a lot better performers.
2-1 is definetly better, I am currently taking the short shots off my 2018 48 (they look, sound and perform awesome for my bike, but I need that 2-1 power) I ordered a Bassani road rage 3 but it doesn't fit with forward controls, so I found a very special Vance and Hines 2-1, it is called the stainless 2-1 upsweep and it is meant for competition only. It was a bastard to track it down but it looks and sounds amazing. It looks nothing like the other 2-1 pipes vance and hines makes. Check this bad boy out! products.vanceandhines.com/store/harley/27627/
I have an 04 sportster with cobra drag pipes and an aftermarket air cleaner. Curious to see what size jet would be best to help with slight hesitation at 1/4 throttle. Just purchased this bike. Thanks. Once warmed up, there is no problem.
Love all your videos. But none are for 5 feet tall riders. I own a Xg 500 and now a Xg750. Would love to ride my dream bike. Harley keeps telling me that they can only lower the bike 1 inch. Harley said I can only ride an xg 750. Not happy
I just bought a 2018 Custom 1200. Thinking about the Cobra 3". The Chrome with Black end cap. Think it would go good with the Black &Chrome trim on mine. My bike is Black Tempest.
Fuel system? Ha ha I got a thundermax Thundermax ECM. It's so easy. Set up autotune, hold on the rough areas until it smooths out, in about a day the bike is tuned. Lock it in and go. One note, it let's you run much richer and cooler than stock. If your state requires emissions tests you might not want to go with it. Again it runs richer, which can make your bike fail emissions. Mine is California illegal. But I'm licensed in Ohio so it doesn't matter.
They don’t make you smog bikes in Cali even when registering so it’s ok to run the tuner. You just gotta order it for “OHV” use lol I use the V&H FP3 and it’s done wonders. Also can go back to stock tuning if for whatever reason I’d want to go back to it
The narrow-angle Harley V-twin will never sound like an inline-4 sport bike, but to me, the sportiest sounding pipes are the Cobra 3" slip-ons and the Two Brothers Comp-S 2-Into-1 full exhaust, both of which are featured in this buyers guide. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cobra-3-slip-on-mufflers-for-harley-sportster-2014-2015 *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/two-brothers-comp-s-2-into-1-exhaust-for-harley-sportster-2014-2015
I really don't care about the sound, I want increased lean angle, increase in torque and hp throughout the rpm range all the way through the rev range that works with 570 cams, dk 606 intake, and FP3 on a roadster. Any suggestions?
I'd recommend the Bassani Road Rage III, as the headers are tucked up underneath the footpeg, and the muffler is upswept. -DrewZilla *bit.ly/Bassani_RoadRageIII_Sportster
How do the S&S power tune exhausts compare to the V&H short shots as far as loudness?? I like how they both look and sound but i don't want my neighbors to hate me lol
I really wanted a set of S&S Powertunes, but they are sadly no longer available. If you want to make your pipes a little quieter for neighbours simply use less throttle. 😂 Seriously though I pulled my baffles out of Short Shot style pipes and wrapped the baffles in fibreglass and put them back in. Helps with the frequency of the resonance.
Is there a pair of slipons close to the Screamin eagles? I can't find any screamin eagles at all and I want my bike loud but not obnoxiously loud like the vance&hinse ones.
Screamin' Eagle is Harley's brand, so they're only available through Harley dealers. Vance & Hines makes the most exhausts that can accept quiet baffles, so I wouldn't rule out Vance & Hines so quickly. Take a look at the 3" Round Twin Slash Slip-Ons and the accessory Quiet Baffles. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-3-round-twin-slash-slip-on-mufflers-for-harley *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-quiet-baffle-for-fishtail-and-3-round-twin-slash-slip-on-mufflers
hi, love your vlogs.. I myself recently purchased an Iron myself.. The dealership here in India said that putting on just the slip ons without the FP3 tuner and air intake change might create some issues with the bike in long run and accordingly advised against putting on just the slip ons.. Stage 1 or just The slip ons, All I want is just the sound.. Can you throw some light on it ?? Regards Anshul
Hey Lemmy, I just bought a 1997 Hugger 883, and the pipes are aftermarket and just say Harley Davidson. They are slip ins, but I can’t figure out what series they could be. The previous owner had HD do everything to the bike, so are there different types of Harley Brand aftermarket pipes? They are staggered and slash cut. I don’t know how to identify them. Can you help?
It can be hard to identify old pipes like that, because Harley doesn't really have a readily accessible database of what was offered at what time. They're likely some of Harley's Screamin' Eagle exhausts. -DrewZilla
No, if you keep the air cleaner stock, you can install the slip-ons without adding a tuner and stage 1 air cleaner. Once you have a slip-on as well as a replacement air cleaner, then you'd need to add a tuner. -DrewZilla
I have a 73 XLCH converted to electric foot. I didn't see any exhaust for my bike out there. I guess what I see are exhaust for Evo Models and not Ironheads.
I was just poking around for grins. The bike has a 73 drive train and a 66 frame so most anything I put on it needs to be try it out and see if it fits kinda thing...

If you install slip-ons, you don't need to tune the engine. If you install a full system, slip-on and air cleaner, or full system and air cleaner, you need to adjust the fueling with a fuel tuner like the Fuelpak FP3. So if you want to install the Shortshots, you don't need to install an air cleaner, but you do need a fuel tuner. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-shortshots-staggered-exhaust-for-harley-sportster-2014-2017 *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-fuelpak-fp3-autotuner-for-harley-2011-2017

You talk Sportster but when you go to your page it says we don't have anything for sportsters don't waste my time on videos when you don't have the parts
Good lord, an exhaust by itself kills power. It will only give gains with induction and remap. I see this all the time it drives me insane, so called pros saying small power gains with exhaust upgrades. No! that not how engines work, without remapping or jetting you will gain nothing and most cases lose power. A large bore pipe on a standard set up will even damage your engine over time.
Slip-ons only make noise, don't waste your money on them. Go with a full exhaust systems if you want to make more power. An added benefit of full systems is that you can remove that 6lb crossover and throw it out the window. Like Lemmy said, less weight equals more power. but don't you need to know how to adjust the computer and fuel injection? Doesn't that take a qualified technician?
No, get the Vance and Hines FP3. They're spendy, but they're the best. I remapped my bike in 1/2 hour with no prior experience.
which will never be used on highways or roads YEAH RIGHT
I do not have a beard, nor do I have good facial hair genes ...
Good lord, an exhaust by itself kills power. It will only give gains with induction and remap. I see this all the time it drives me insane, so called pros saying small power gains with exhaust upgrades. No! that not how engines work, without remapping or jetting you will gain nothing and most cases lose power. A large bore pipe on a standard set up will even damage your engine over time.
advice..... Don't.
