    Great vid and thank you for including Gamble's INT. If Gamble doesn't go over and make the play Taylor Stubblefield likely makes that catch, because he had Donnie Nickey completely turned around. Huge play that gets overlooked.

      For real. What was Nickey doing out there? Thank god somebody was paying attention

      Incredible how much ground Gamble made up so quickly from the time the pass was thrown. He made it look easy.

    One of my all-time favorite plays of Ohio State. Having Keels instead of Musburger makes it that much better. Thanks Matt!

    I recently watched through the no huddle versions of these games and was reminded that the Buckeyes really struggled to gain consistency on the deep ball that season.
    Glad they got this one!

    I was hoping the Paul Keels call on Holy Buckeye would appear. But as great as Keels is, Brent Musberger gushing with excitement and exclaiming "Holy Buckeye!" is still the best! The 2002 Buckeyes were certainly a team of destiny. After Woody crapped away great teams in 1969, 1973, '74, '75, 77 and the Buckeyes crapping away great seasons/talent under John Cooper, the long National Championship drought would end with this unlikely team. The 34 year wait would end with this magical ride. It almost didn't before Holy Buckeye!

    Jim Lachey was prophetic. “You win games like this one, good things are going to happen at the end of the season”.
    They don’t play college football like this anymore - It was the Golden Age.

      Purdue had 9 in the box, it would have blown up a play action call at that time. When they didn't have 9 in the box, they were relentless with the blitz the entire game. As I recall, Clarrett was still nursing a shoulder injury and was limited and Lydell Ross was not a great back to carry the load. Purdue's. Game plan was to shut down the run and force Krenzel to beat them with his arm. It was effective until "Holy Buckeye."

      I found the audio on soundcloud while looking for audio of the 2017 USC game, I believe 97.1 the fan rebroadcasted old games during the timeslot of the canceled games from 2020, one of them being this 02 Purdue game. Someone recorded the replay(Audio began in the middle of Purdue's first drive of the 4th quarter) and uploaded it to soundcloud where I downloaded it and edited it with the footage. I was very happy with the find to say the least

    I heard someone say once that Krenzel was not a great QB, that all he did was to win games.

    • @mattstrathis4328
      @mattstrathis4328 3 роки тому +2

      It's true. He was basically a Fullback at the QB position. He was a very smart player who maximized his talents...but he was also a very tough runner and took a lot big hits. Back then it was all about being tough.
      Toughness, leadership, and making clutch plays over and over is what Craig Krenzel was all about. You should UA-cam the 2002 season and you'll see what I mean.

      These days defenses aren't near as tough with rules like targeting. Breathing on a QB these days is a penalty... and DBs basically have to let the WR catch the ball and then softly tackle him to avoid the "defenseless receiver" personal foul call. The game today sucks compared to back then.
