Agreed, I used to watch a lot of these early 70s made for TV films when I was in my early teens. Sensible entertainment without being spiced up by swearing and explicit scenes.

I'm not sure he was playing. He had a serious drinking problem. He probably just got drunk and did the part. He looks drunk. Either that, or he's an even better actor than I thought. I've watched many episodes of Highway Patrol.

What an amazing plot! If he'd only let the kids work things out on their own this tragedy wouldn't have happened. An obsessive parent is dangerous. I've seen a few of them. Some of them are even proud of the misery they've caused, thinking that they did the right thing.
If you don't have enough trouble in life, you can always count on your family. People should mind their own darn business, period, as this movie clearly shows what happens when people don't.

He was in the tv series Highway Patrol in the mid 1950s. His Mother was Helen Broderick, a huge star on Broadway & Hollywood. Musical comedy/singer/dancer even appeared in the 1907 Ziefeld Follies. She was in several Astaire/Rogers movies, she passed away in 1959. Her son, Broderick died in 1968. His role in Born Yesterday was my favorite
The policeman was playing a man of principles, he loved his daughter and despised adultery. How come he couldn't just face the consequences of his deeds like a man, it's beyond me. Great movie - complicated, though the characters seem simple.
Yeah, but the way she died was idiotic. Anybody die because of that little fight. There were more fights like that in the movie and nobody died. I wish the things had developed different, with the lover doing things or whatever.

Really liked Whit Bissel in I WAS A TEENAGE FRANKENSTIEN where he had the starring role as the doctor. He's been in everything down thru the years. Wonder why he took a part that lasted less than a minute? Great movie though. Broadrick Crawford nailed it as the wino.

I also saw a documentary where a parrot kept on shouting " help, help" when the park ranger has collapsed and needed an urgent help. The parrot kept shouting and shouting till I think this man's family member finally heard a faint strange noise and went to investigate. The parrot certainly had saved his life as it was approaching evening and the temperature would have dropped drastically and the man might not have survived. Stories like that are so amazing and almost unbelievable. 🤗
She did not bang her head at all during that scuffle! 😮 There's no way she could've been bleeding as a result. The fake blood on his hand is wrong consistency and colour.
Still watching but.. One can easily see themselves in the position of the father here. 😑 He should've admitted it all apologizing to all even if was going to devastate his daughter. Failure is a pain but pulling enough courage to admit it is decent and strong... and comforting. The drunk guy who killed his friend though wasn't really going to be walked to the gas chamber like the sargeant told him because the guy was under the influence of alcohol. Another reason people should steer clear from that toxic stuff. The guy looked so kind by the way 😄. His voice is so fatherly and warm.
Some life lessons to learn here: Life certainly is fragile. As far as possible, do not get involved in trying to sort out the personal relationships between others. It's incredibly easy to frame someone who in reality is innocent. Though slowly, the wheel turns, and one eventually will reap what you had sown.
While the acting was great, the plot of the story was a bit far-fetched. Even if the detective could convince the girlfriend to dump his son-in-law, a cheating husband will simply move on to another "floozy".

While Bridges clean lifestyle allowed him to live 12 years longer then Crawford, dying at age 86.
When i was growing up in the 70s it was pretty common to drive by where a bunch of women were standing and just grab some ass as you drove by,gently of course, now they will put you in jail for it,lol
Brilliant method character actor, Crawford was. The jail house scene with him and Bridges (who's also great here), ought to be mandatory viewing in acting classes. A lesser actor couldn't have pulled off a more convincing performance, would've blinked in all the wrong spots but Crawford was totally believable all the way. He really could do everything, tough scary guy in Big House U.S.A. (1955) or poor soul like here.
