Harrington makes hardened firing pins and hardened rollers. I use the Wolff 16.5 recoil spring for now, and the trigger response is great. I have the 18.5, but, so far, everything is working well. I never used old ammo. I am shooting "factory" with good success, but I want to reload when I have enough brass. The only thing lacking now is a decent sight picture. You need to pull the firing pin detent spring out and clean the firing pin tube very well. Also take a 1/16th pin punch and remove the extractor. You will probably find gobs of cosmoline everywhere. Clean everything! The bolt face too....I use a toothpick and work it all around. If nothing else, change the rollers to the hardened type. I put a toothpick touch of duralube on them before reassembly. These should virtually last forever. Oh, They make a barrel take-down tool ,but the correct diameter pin punch is as good. It affords much better control than your smaller one. Just a few thoughts
The weapon was designed to work with the Czech military ammo. The Czech military ammo apparently is loaded with a bit stronger charge since it was to be used in the Vz24-26 SMG as well. We call the Vz24-26 the bicycle pump here in the Czech republic.
That makes since :)
I've got one. It has to be my favorite single stack pistol. The problem you were having with the feed is from limp wristing. NO OFFENSE INTENDED. If had to find that out. Almost everyone who shoots mine, including experienced shooters, had that same problem. You really have to put some nuts behind that thing. The reason is because the slide is so heavy. It was designed to shoot a 9x19. So that tokarev ammo kicks like a mule.
your rollers are out of round causing binding inside the slide. there are several aftermarket makers of hardened rollers. I would suggest also a 16.5# recoil spring from wolff springs, and with that a new hardened firing pin.
Some problems you might encounter with 7.62x25 ammo:
1) Some surplus 7.62x25s have bullets that aren’t seated to the proper depth into the cartridge, and as a result, the bullet can engage the rifling before the slide is all the way closed, stopping it from fully chambering the round. You can fix that if you use a bullet seating press to touch up the seating on all of your ammo before firing, as long as you know what the seating specs are and have the right tools.
2) Soviet specs allow for two different cartridge loadings; a) lower-powered, for handguns (around 1,300 fps), and b) higher-powered (1,600 fps) for submachine guns like the PPSH. The CZ-52 is designed to fire the hotter submachine gun loading, so that Chechoslavakia wouldn’t have to manufacture two seperate loadings and worry about accidentally mixing them up. Sellier & Bellot makes new brass-case 7.62x25 that’s loaded to the old submachine gun loading, but it can be a little pricey.
3) Bad batches of surplus ammo (usually sold as Bulgarian) have been found that are overloaded (to rifle cartridge pressures) that are extremely hazardous to use in a CZ-52. Either excess pressure or weaknesses in the cartridge case metal can cause the cartridge neck to crack and leave fragments in the chamber, which can get rammed into the barrel when the next round chambers. When fired, the bullet can jam against the fragments, and the gas pressure has nowhere to go, resulting in a ruptured chamber or barrel, and a totalled CZ-52. Avoid Bulgarian surplus ammo.
Your CZ-52’s recoil spring might be worn out enough to run low-power 7.62 all day, but if you want to run the hotter stuff that it was designed for, you may need to replace the recoil spring with a new and stiffer one, particularly if you’re seeing brass dust in the chamber or brass marks around the ejection port.
Also, it’s a good idea to replace the locking rollers with new, properly hardened rollers, as the original rollers tend to develop an oval-shape, and might not even roll. Use extra oil or better yet, gun grease. Never under-lubricate the roller lock assembly on a CZ-52.
Sound like a worn out spring, out-of-round rollers, or both is what is causing it to fail to go into battery. Great handcannon for sure!
Two things I hope you've realized through owning this. 1. It's pretty much the most accurate semi auto ever. 2. That slide ain't going nowhere
It shoots really well for such a powerful round. Thanks!
change the recoil spring and polish feed ramp and see if that dont do it justice
While it may not have the capacity of the newer CZ pistols, like my P09, I love shooting my CZ52. It's just a lot of fun. I've had no malfunctions with three different types of ammo including old surplus ammo.
Hi Tony, Nice gun! Did you end up fixing the problem? Just bought one myself and had similar issues. Replaced both the spring and rollers to remedy the problem. Good luck!
you need to call Wolff Springs.
Take the slide off . Insert loaded magazine . Check alignment of mag feed lips bullet should be aligned with the chamber not off to one side or other .
If you've still yet to solve the problem check the rollers as well as the springs.
Also they can be finicky with mags and ammo. Especially be sure to try different surplus ammo because loadings will vary between countries of origin.
Did you clean out all the cosmoline? These come packed full of the stuff. I have one and had no troubles with surplus in mine.
Make sure you only use original magazines (they don't make them anymore and the replicas that claim to be "just as good" are not. If that doesn't solve the issue I'd get a new recoil spring and some new rollers. Maybe even a new barrel and that should solve your problems. I've restored 3 of these (completely taken them apart down to every pin and removed rust/dirt) and yours looks to be a bit more on the "worn" side, but still good enough condition that it shouldn't give you as much trouble as you're having. I am not a certified gun smith, but I do have a good understanding of the topic.
Hope it keeps working for you toney!
please help, can you please make a video how to change the firing pin cz 52
Nice. Had never considered one of these but I really like the looks of the pistol and am intrigued by the round.
Could be weak ammo not pushing the slide all the way back to bind the spring all the way. I had the problem with Chinese ammo. I pumped up some reloads and the problem went away.
I'm a fan of the CZ. I think they make some cool guns.
Stronger recoil spring helps with recoil and makes slide go into battery
Its most likely the rollers. A weak recoil spring would make the slide recoil more, not less.
Your video was not boring it was vary entertaining! I busted a gut when you fast forward racking the slide after lubing the gun.
Haha that was a fun video. Thanks :) I complimented Yeager on his latest Cz video and he said he didn't care cause I didn't train lol
1: those mags are meant for 7 rounds.. you can load 8. but it puts alot of excess pressure eon the slide. and can lead to feed problems
2: your recoil spring around the barrel may be worn out.
i used to own one int he 90's very nice lil guns never had a problem with mine that wasn't related to the ammo in some way
the cz 52 is on my list, looked at one before an it just felt awesome
I am going to get one! Thanks!
A new recoil spring, a full cleaning, and careful lubrication are in order
i have a old one im about to shoot..im wondering the same thing about the barrel flying off as easy as it comes apart.could it happen any one know?
You can find it on gunbroker and other places around the net.
I ordered some! Thanks!
I have a tokarev ttc that wouldnt go into battery turned out it didnt like the ppu ammo i was feeding it. Shoot S&B now works flawlessly
Seen two of these before. Never picked it up. Just looked.
I don't know much about these, but aside from the other recommendations you might want to have a look around the web, and check out your extractor and ejector to be sure they look alright. Also maybe try some different ammo if you can, and possibly replace some of the other springs. As you would with most other pistols I suppose..
The 52 needs to have the roller recesses in the slide should be smoothed . Trim back the ejector if the empty case mouth shows signs of contacting the ejection port .
I'll get a new spring. Thanks!
You may want to replace the breach rollers. That's typically the weak link in the locking system.
ElCineHefe thanks. I think I gave this pistol away in a giveaway. I need to go track it down :)
I'll get some rollers. I am ordering a firing pin too because I have read they are brittle and the ends can break.
That is a cool gun. I hope it works out for you. Give us an update.
I am going to order a recoil spring. It will not hurt to have an extra. Thanks!
That's a fun pistol. Had a chance to shoot a copy of that pistol. Same round. Hot little round. Not much recoil but higher velocity than a 9mm iirc. Try cleaning the hell out of it. Check the feed ramp and the recoil spring. Feed ramp might need polished. Just a thought.
Definatly try cleaning it i had the same problem and helped for me
Interesting video on a interesting gun.
If your still shooting it these days dont bother with the surplus ammo, getchu some sellier and bellot or prvi partizan. CPR is about the same now.
I would definitely take it apart completely and clean everything up all nice and check to make sure the pieces are in good shape
Thanks fred!
grease wear points on frame with Teflon grease. it is a cannon.
Disassemble the weapon and clean it thoroughly and lube it properly and it should work fine. Also, replace your barrel spring and the magazine spring for continuous functioning
I had a similar problem with a Cobra .380, the recoil spring needed to be replaced.
Will 30 Mauser work in the gun? I use it in TT33's from time to time and it lightens the flip and its a touch milder.
Yes, it does. I reload for my C96 Broomhandle and shoot those reloads in my CZ52 very well. The reverse is not true. Don't shoot 7,62x25 in a C96. But the 7,63x25 in the CZ52 is fine and cycles (mine at least) very well.
I think you have a weak recoil spring. That is common with that gun. Wolff has replacement parts for it.
Thanks!
Thanks much!
Recoil spring, dont think the rollers would cause that if it was only happening when there was a round chambered
I've fired over 1K rounds of surplus x25, no issues at all, and most of it looked horrible, had corrosion on the brass and bullets, all of it ran flawlessly in my TTC, accuracy is sub par though, most of the cases split so I would imagine the pressure is pretty inconsistent, some go high and some go low but all stay centered.
I'll check it! :)
You need to thoroughly clean your gun and likely replace some parts. Harrington Products can help!
+1 on changing the recoil spring. Also clean the mag and gun spotless.
It's an old gun Tony. I would get a spring kit for it. At the least, replace the recoil and magazine springs.
Put new springs in it Tony. After a thorough cleanibg
I will, thanks!
isn´t it czech made?
might need a new recoil spring also if the slide is not shutting all the way
I'll look at it! :)
I suspect its either the recoil spring or possibly dried cosmoline in the chamber causing drag. :)
i would appreciate if you told me where to get 7.62x25 surplus
Thanks! :)
They are beautimous :)
SPRINGS are acting like they need to be replaced..
I heard many stories about CZ 52 not just because I live in the country of origin. Like all our mil-serv guns it seems to be only two polar sides here. One love them the other hate them. I heard many good and bad things about CZ 52 but the most interesting thing in my opinion is that it was supposed to be a 9x19mm, but due "Mighty Soviet Big Brother" wished it was changed for 7.62x25mm and this gun had a suprisingly short lifespan of some 1500 shots if memory serves me right.
I am in love already :)
my cz70 is jamming so I cant empty the clip. I can get about 4 shots off. bullet goes in the chamber all fucked up and I got to unjam it. Just ordered some new mags. any tips for fixing this?
I have a cz82 that works flawlessly so I am sorry, I do not know. I am assuming it is a magazine issue and that other mags will work.
also check to make sure the magazine is not bent
did you ever figure out the slide issues?
Honestly, I need to shoot the thing again. I cleaned it but you have inspired me to take it to the range again :)
I'll get one! :)
that is a problem with the nail that expels ammunition
hey man its the catboxkilla and i didnt mean any harm by what i said! what i was saying is that i wouldnt fuck with u because u where a good shot
Cool
Thanks a bunch! I figured you would know what was wrong :)
I'll try that but I am bad about cleaning my guns :)
Your comment is not annoying, it's just not accurate. Most of my shots were withing a 6" square at over 30 feet. I'll take that. My videos are for entertainment, not instruction.
Weak recoil spring?
That's a shame, I hope you get it working for you
I am going to give it a good scrub :) Thanks!
I just ordered 250 more rounds :) I wish I had a rifle that shot the round!
Not a rifle but pps-43 is there for you
Dont trust the decocker on these also there is 9mm aftermarket kit for these
I'll get it working or blow it up :) Thanks!
i bet the recoil spring needed to be replaced
okydokee :) Thanks!
It is a wrong term.
Since 1948 Czechoslovakia was part of the Soviet bloc like Poland or Hungary.
But never part of Soviet Union.
It could be a weak spring
Yes it is. This is a mistake on my part. I forgot the CZ part was Czech.
looks like a stiff extractor spring to me
nice brother. thanks for showing us. Looks like she needs a good lube and cleaning.. God Bless Brother.
Check the rollers....
We don't want you to get disgusted with it so I'll drive down this weekend and take it off your hands. lol Check the chamber to make sure it isn't fouled. I found with my CZ 38 it will shave lead and pack it in the chamber. That keeps it from chambering in ejecting properly. It should be a great gun once you get it figured out. That round really hits hard.
How are you so smart? Damn you! :)
For a minute I thought you were saying I sounded European :)
What did you pay him for it??
I think around $200
the Czechs make great drink, guns and women but that's no big it is probably the old gun with old rounds and the rounds from a spam can that was not opened with in 2 years and have been kept in bad conditions then it might just be those rounds i would pick up some new 7.62 x 25mm and see how that runs
