Cut pipe full length of your cutting edge, Cot out a gap the thickness of your cutting edge, weld on a couple of tabs that line up with the bolt holes of your original cutting edge, and thats it. the pipe will slide over (under) your cutting and then bolt it thruogh the cutting edge. You will need a couple of longer bolts for this. It makes it so it can be easily removed and easily installed...

Does it work on asphalt to prevent damage
Yes it does, that's the primary reason to go through the effort, steel is cheep, asphalt, and chipseal are not.
