- Ranking every member of the Justice League is no easy task, but luckily we did it and it was actually pretty easy. Here we rank all the A-listers including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Cyborg plus really geting into the weeds with some B-list characters. Thanks for watching!

Someone on twitter was making fun of the old wonder woman show when Lynda Carter wore a helmet when riding a scooter. Lynda replied that while WW may be close to indestructible, she wouldn't risk being a bad role model and I just think that's neat.

It'd be pretty bad to have to pull over and waste time explaining to a cop that you have an indestructible head, while you're trying to rush to stop a bad guy.

I miss movies like that, ngl I watched Venom 2 today. Its literally nothing like the comics even slightly and I know that's why people hate it, but Tom Hardy is a just a lot of fun and goofy shit like the "f*ck this guy" line and idk when you dont take the universe that seriously the movies feel like old pulpy shows just with updated dialogue and VFX

Fun fact, there was going to be a spinoff movie where the Atom was a farmer. He worked with Ted Cord to grow food super big, but the lights from their lasers wound up being the same color as their suits, and it gave the crops a weird hue. So they decided to name the movie "Blue Harvest", but then they remembered that was actually the original name for Star Wars.
I appreciate James’s take on Superman. He has the power to do anything, yet he can’t save everyone, but he never stops trying. That is an immense burden to bear. I’ve always found that fascinating.
I feel the evil superman gets to overhyped and we haven't had a great version of the one you describe because of it. Most aren't bad I grant it but my fingers are crossed for Superman Legacy.
@@bearman9033 Yeah, everyone's in love with the Homelanders and Omni-Mans. The "deconstruction" of superheroes, and more specifically Superman. I think the boldest thing to do is present Superman like Smallville did: being good is a choice he makes every single day.
As a flash super fan, that was actually a smart move to junk the flash’s ranking, cause any hardcore fans would demand an S, and any casual fans would think he should be lower. This avoids all of it 🤙🏼

yeah I like when they just kinda ignore ranking something because they decided to on the spot. but with that said, flash the character is probably overall S tier or at least high A
@@collin.a. it all just depends on if they are going by power, general popularity, or how prolific they’ve been within comics since their inception. I think for Flash it would go S Tier, A Tier, S Tier (respectively). So overall S Tier. But to be fair and unbiased, so should Green Lantern 🤷🏻♂️

@@JosephWolfson Wally is my favorite superhero of all time and who I grew up with (90s kid), and is definitively the most powerful speedster, but popularity goes to Barry just cause of his post-crisis revival as the main flash in the mid/late 2000s and then of course the tv show and then movies. But I’m personally with you about ranking Wally higher when it comes to power and like-ability

While I kind of like that Hawkman doesn't need an explanation in Black Adam, I do think it is weird that the JSA has both Hawkman and Nabu on the team, both of which could have potentially lived through Black Adam's reign of terror which would give them a reason to distrust and want to stop him...... and it's never brought up.
That was weird to me as well. They are so closely tied to Black Adam especially Fate with his previous avatars (at least 1 should have clashed with him back then).
Hawkman could have been an alien or reincarnated Egyptian. They didn't clarify so it's up in the air, I personally prefer Hawkman and Hawkgirls connection to ancient Egypt and magic over sci-fi shenanigans.

Why did they remove Dr Fate's helmet eye holes in that movie? The costume was nearly perfect.
Might just be me but I thought it looked dope without them. Best costume design from that movie imo.

Adding my voice to the "looks better without eye holes" crowd. At least in live action. It's kinda like how the Bat Family's masks never look right in live action; it's just really tough to translate without looking kinda goofy.

IMO, the way, I think they should’ve started the DCEU would have been better if they started with Green Arrow. So in the later films, they can build him up in weapon artillery. I think that was the plan at a certain point. Then Batman or Superman, basically what Marvel did by having something grounded first. To get the view were excited about the fantastical elements for the future films. Thors hammer at the end of Iron Man 2 is a great example. Or just having Captain America shield in the background of Iron Man was cool. It also made sense in universe.
Left a Like for the memory of Aquaman getting axed from my Justice League game design back in 2007 because WB had no faith in him being a compelling character for a video game because their polled focus group ranked him F Tier; at the time.
Hal for sure got hoodwinked at the store when signing up for his ring payment plan.
In the JLA comic series, when looking at new members, Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman mention Elongated Man, and one of them - I think Batman - says Plastic Man has more versatility.
I love how they just did a 20 minute video ranking the Justice League on a tier list with no basis for their rankings whatsoever.

The Lantern rings have always bugged me. Outside of the craziest of cataclysms where they are granted emergency powers and all the usual peeotections are unlocked, how often do they need to charge?
Is itnlike a timer where "the more (insert spectrum) power you exude, it amplifies it, or can one "will power so hard" that it just insta-drains in a few seconds like gaming on a smartphones sucks that dry? Like poof, all drained, you're screwed untill you plug-in?!

In the Snyderverse, I have to put Wonder Woman first, and just about everyone else as runner-up for last. If it's the Arrowverse, then I put Supergirl and Superman at 1, Flash at 2, and Arrow at 3. I did like the Atom, but we sure didn't see much of him after the first two seasons of LoT.
I love how James thinks MM weakness is that he is flammable! 😆 He just doesn't like fire, like Frankenstein.
The clip they are showing that he is lit on fire had him drink something that made him flammable and couldn't be put out, in Justice League Doom I think?

The Atom is not Adam Smasher, those are 2 different people. The Atom is actually one of the smartest men on earth and essential to the Justice League, Adam Smasher is no longer alive in most of the JLA Comics because he is a hero of the 60s :D

@@dilemmawhatson I think there’s some mystique to him. It’s just cool that his super power is that he’s a boxer and he fights like a boxer. Batman can be anything so that makes him less compelling to me and Wonder Woman is saddled with writers wanting to stretch her in a bunch of directions without one concrete idea of who she is

I’m probably one of the only people who actually enjoyed the Flash movie. Mainly cuz (unlike everyone else) I don’t go in looking for reasons to complain about it.

The Elongated Man is a better detective than Batman. Batman is more of a "street level" detective whereas Ralph Dibny is more of a Sherlock Holmes level detective. If someone kills the mayor in his driveway by blowing up his car, you call Batman. If someone kills the mayor with a knife in a room with barred windows that's locked from the inside, you call Ralph Dibny. That's why they killed Sue Dibny, his wife, in Identity Crisis. It was to basically take him out of the investigation due to his grief, because otherwise he'd have been the one to break the case in one or two issues.
Batman is only an impressive detective relative to other superheros of a specific era who didnt actually investigate anything lol.

Batman does what most of the Justice League members have as their 1 strength, just like the Joker does what most of the Batman's rouge gallery does as their 1 thing. Isn't that just something. Or nothing at all. Probably nothing.

I am forever obsessed with how Martian Manhunter was just some random guy in Batman V Superman and didn't just like jump in when everyone got jumped by Doomsday.

Context about Martian Manhunter's Fire weakness; The Guardians of the Green Lantern Corp are responsible for that. They actually were terrified of the power of the martians, and forcibly added a psychological fear of fire to their entire race as a way to counter them.
That seems very rude and I think the Green Lantern Corps is just jealous of Martian Manhunter.
They should apologize to all Martians I feel.

Most of the Martians are dead because that fear of fire killed them since it was connected to the mental connection of all Martians, so not like they can apologize now.

I used to think Superman was a bit of a boring character. Then I had a Postmodern Art class at uni, which assigned All Star Superman as a required reading. Really great comic series that proves Superman can be a great complex character without needing to go evil or whatever, would recommend.
All-Star Superman is the perfect book to give anyone that doesn't get what's great about Superman.

Honestly, the immediate timeskip kinda killed it for me. I was into the first incarnation of that team, and wanted to see them grow into their future selves, instead of "Season 1 is over, Season 2 starts---BAM, here's Nightwing, Tim's on the team, Jason used to be there but the one thing he's famous for has already happened, etc".

Martian Manhunter exists in this weird little underrated pocket where he's so tied to like 50's iconography and identity but in more modern comics they've made him spookier and in the cartoons he was just a solid stand up dude, i like him.

Let's be real. Cyborg was promoted to the Justice League purely because having him be connected to Motherboxes is a really easy way to work out a ton of Darkseid stuff.
It’s so lazy and so boring, I hate it. The best use of Victor in the last 20 years is Doom Patrol, in which his dad just fucked him over for ego rather than actually wanting to save him. Maybe tied for that is the original Teen Titans cartoon where it’s implied his dad did the same thing to him. Forcing this weird motherbox thing on him just defeats the purpose of the character.
That’s not a DCEU thing though, Cyborg was a founding JL member in the New 52.

Let's be real. Cyborg was promoted ot the Justice League purely because he was black and DC has gone woke along with Marvel.
If the goal of New 52 was to round out the roster without copying the animated Justice League it makes sense why they would pick someone as well known and popular as Cyborg I just don’t know why you would make him serious. I would’ve picked Mr. Terrific but maybe that has too much overlap with Batman

I still recall reading about the costume design in Man of Steel and as to why it was so... drab.
Supposedly whichever costume company Warner Bros decided to outsource the designs to during production had actually run out of several dyes due to some California wildfires damaging their stock. One of which was, you guessed it, Supermans Red and Blues. After being given a black costume, Henry Cavill threatened to walk out unless he was given something more accurate. Internally the incident was known at WB as Blue Harvest.

The Justice League cartoon from the 2000s is the point where people started to take Aquaman seriously. Dude cut off his own hand with his belt buckle to save himself and his son from lava.

I would love a Martian Manhunter focused movie. I've always thought he was underutilized bc he's so OP; I feel like writers often don't know what to do with him but he's so cool.

I remember the old Seanbaby articles on Super Friends and him arguing that if the Justice League was just Superman and Wonder Woman every episode would be resolved in five minutes.
Atom Smasher from Black Adam is actually a completely different set of characters to The Atom but I’m not that surprised nobody noticed enough to comment.
7:18 It really bothered me that a Wonder Woman movie would screw up consent so badly. That dude who got his body jacked had NO say in it, and WW made that whole thing ickier by creeping on him at the end of the movie. How did this get past everyone at Warner?
It's so weird too because there's no reason for it? Like if you just have Steve Trevor appear out of thin air the movie stays the same and consent remains in tact.

This was a major theme of the movie, but that movie was really bad so I dont blame you for missing it. Wishing him back was a monkey's paw and WW had to learn to let go in order to stick to her moral code.
@Luminousreign except her monkey's paw consequence was losing her powers, so she only gave Steve up in order to save the world, not at all to do with the guy whose life she stole.

Thematically maintaining her moral code and not taking the easy route is tied to her powers, so thematically when she loses sight of her moral code and hijacks the man's body with her wish, she loses her powers. So yeah, they never forcus on the guy but it is clearly intended to be seen as wrong. The emphasis is just placed on WW and her waivering conviction to do the right thing.

I think the fun pattern of this tier list is that a lot of heroes got tiered by the first letter of their names
We need more superheroes that exude intense childlike glee when set on fire.
There's some precedent for the limits of Zatanna's abilities in the comics - in 7 Soldiers by Grant Morrison there was exploration of Zatanna over utilizing her abilities and becoming "addicted" to magic. In the 90s JLA run Zatanna did do some crazy powerful stuff with her abilities like erasing people's memories and changing groups of people's perception of reality and a bunch of other Leaguers said "hey that's actually f*cked up dont do that anymore" she became a blacksheep for a minute. And a lot of the time there's just the use of stamina where she can only do so much before needing to recharge - like Green Lantern and his stupid phone battery
Green Arrow making it to A-Tier makes me so happy. He deserves it.
