Tom Segura's 591HP N/A DeMan 4.5L Porsche 992 GT3 Touring! - TheSmokingTire

- Legendary comedian Tom Segura is, like Matt, a fan of DeMan Motorsport 4.5L engines - so much so he now owns TWO of them! After seeing Matt's original video, Tom sent his 718 Cayman GT4 to Deman for the full 4.5L treatment, and called it a "collection ruiner" because it was the most fun car on the planet. But then he got a GT3 Touring allocation and wanted to make that a little more exciting, because after the GT4.5, a Touring is boring. Matt and Tom take a drive in the GT3 4.5, (Tuned by M-Engineering's Mitch Mckee!) - discuss the pros and cons, see if it's worth the dough, and determine whether it's more fun than the GT4.5 or Matt's Spyder 4.5.
Special S/O to Tom for making time for this video and for DeMan Motorsport for building such powerhouse motors! www.demanmotorsport.com

Tommy bunz is such a boss, I remember when he was one of the poors and podcasting with Tina out of their house and struggling. To see him healthy, wealthy and successful is awesome, he really deserves the 4.5 strokes!
A **fat poor** , now he's lean, wealthy, and featherin' it like he's always deserved! Never thought I’d see him friends with my favorite car reviewer Matt! 🤯
He is definitely keeping the jeans high and tight.
@@Underpantsniper REV ME THROUGH THE FENCE
He was never poor his dad was the VP of Merrill Lynch, one of the investment banks responsible for the housing collapse in 08 and millions of working class people losing billions of dollars. Tom got rich off your parents and grandparents money
No more wash cloths
Honestly, a show with you and tom reviewing cars together would crush. Something about his nonchalant-ness and your knowledge makes this endlessly entertaining.
Yes please make this happen we need it.
Yes. These two and Dax should be Top Gear USA.
Yes.
Fuck that, Matt does and always has sucked....exactly why he's basically unknown to most. Pure suckage
What would we call it? The faker and the maker? The nouveau riche and the specialiste? The 'I just studied a bunch of facts before this video' and the "I live and breathe this stuff'? Either way Im in.
Can we just mention how good Tom looks now? He took the workout challenge and kept going!
While Tom looks better over time, Burnt Chrysler continues to get fatter, very sad
he also got pretty disabled for a while. that encouraged him to get in shape
He still looks like shit, just lost weight thats it.
Bert however might be having octuplets

So well put Matt. "You don't want to change the fundamental character of the car." I think we have all done it where we go too far and mess it up.

I always loved Tom Segura's comedy. The fact that he has fantastic taste in cars just makes me appreciate his work that much more!
His “comedy”? That’s rich
@@TheBrandonDawson Oh no! Someone has different taste to Brandon! 😢
@@TheBrandonDawson Anyone who writes like this is a loser.
@TheBrandonDawson I bet you have loads of friends
@@closer20jc lmao, only a few real close ones. But none of them are Tom Segura fans so that definitely counts for something.
Nice of you to give the spot light to your little brother and his automatic Beetle
Got my first ride in a stock 992 GT3 around the ring and I can't imagine wanting or needing anything with more speed, absolutely incredible grip, brakes, stability and power
Texas …
Me neither. This has a "whiff" of paid content for DeMan Motors. Also say goodbye to your warranty from Porsche.
Gt3 or gt3 touring bc there's a difference
I think it's partially bc he's not revving it out, which is how a GT3 engine has to be appreciated.
there are plenty of cars that feel more powerful and faster in a straight line than the gt3.. very few have that overall balance though
I’d love to know what Toms original spec was.
pizza and burgers
he said he opted for a manual and more sporty interior, probably with a more exotic color and more carbon fiber on the outside
I believe he said it was a Macan
@@unvjustintime1 correct a Macan T 🤣
Probably hip hop spec, lava orange with carbon everywhere
Tom Segura is a Porsche man...huge fan of his comedy for years and I never knew ye was a Porsche or car guy at all. Fantastic! Great video Matt
Pretty sure this is the Joe influence here, Tom was in a competition M before this (can't remember 2 or 4) and his race car is a bmw too. Tom is super into cars though for a while based on his podcast comments.
Matt's Hargerty video on the 4.5 is completely to blame for me having a 911 4.5 and a Cayman 4.5 as well. Thank you Matt. 😅
Love them both.
In the same vein as Matt's question - if you had to pick one, which is the more exciting car and the one you would keep?
@@Sassy7712 Gosh that's a very tough one. As Tom mentioned, they drive very differently. All the controls are familiar, both are clearly Porsches, but the way they go around corners especially trail braking, mid corner rotation, and accelerating out of corners are totally different.
On track I find the Cayman 4.5 more exciting. It urges the driver to push and get on the gas early to plant the rear. Adrenaline rush the whole way.
On the street the 911 is easier to drive, fits more stuff, and friendlier at the limit. But easily creates excitement due to 4.5.
Like Tom, I'll be keeping both.
I've only had the Cayman 4.5 for about a month so it's hard to make a decision without getting to know it better.

@user59371 great point. I guess you're right.
Good to see Tom reconnect with his brother
This could be a new segment for you guys to mix into the regular reviews. Reviewing cars of friends, interesting people/cars or “famous people” with a cool story. Almost an updated version of the one takes but with a twist. Just a thought. A very cool story of Tom’s car. Great review as always!
Never seen Tommy so serious. He's always clowning on the Podcast and in his stand up specials. This was very cool.
Unlike many comics or celebs. Tom is a true car guy. Love to see it.
Hardly.
@@stuwest3653 yeah I feel you. He's not out here building drift cars or fox bodies with a 7.6 supercharged meth injected motor. Lol
If only Tbunz had more time this would be such an awesome series. Zach the editing on this ep is awesome really liked all the cuts to cars being talked about👍
Porsche GT cars were always the definition of high and tight, go Tim! 💪
1 million subscribers. Amazing! Congrats, Matt!
When I first started listening to YMH, Tom was in California and the only car he talked about was a Chevy Malibu if I recall correctly. Now he’s in my Texas backyard driving my dream cars. What an evolution! If Howard Stern had ‘evolved’ in such a way, I might not have canceled my Sirius subscription. Congratulations, Tom!!

cyclist and car enthusiast, always appreciating that Matt mentions "cyclist" as he carefully and respectfully drives past
Matt has a video where he flies over the centerline on a road where if there was someone, they would've died.
Someone should tell Matt that there is a guy posing as Tom Segura sitting beside him 😮
Matt, I'd love to invite you to come drive my Manual DeMan 4.5L 991.2 GT3. It's insanity. For some reason this 992 GT3 felt reserved through the camera... Could be the exhaust setup or the fact that it wasn't broken in. I went Dundon and Track rear section. My car sounds like the GT4 in its tone, but goes to 9K and makes 510 to the wheel. All of the tingles that Tom and you get from the Cayman, which Rick drove me in, are enhanced in a 4.5L manual GT3 configuration with a crazy exhaust. For context I have a 4RS, and my DeMan GT3 car makes that thing feel like a Lexus. Anyways, great video! Happy that you and Tom are also addicted to the Rick Juice ;)
I’m living my dream car life through Tommy 👖, dude has some of the best taste in whips and chains. Love it. Great episode.
Tom needs a car review channel, would love a video of him taking out a decent Porsche and going “this is boring”😂😂
I'd love more of these collaborations! Tom is such a gear head.

I haven’t even watched it yet but I know this is gonna be one your most enjoyable reviews so far.
The crossover I didn't know I needed! One of the best comedians + a baller Porsche!
I can’t imagine taking a brand new GT3, with that unbelievable engine, and swapping it out for something else, thinking that I need “more”. To each their own, just can’t wrap my head around that one.
This spec is actually awesome sooo understated
You two are two of the best at what you do.
Will be great to see when you can really rev it out after break-in. More important on this engine than the 718 4.5L.
Right.. I was excited for this until he mentioned it not being broken in. This is the automotive review version of “edging”.
@@crowe9385 haha. Hopefully Matt will be able to do a more thorough review post-break in.
One of the best car reviewers, with one of the best stand-up comedians. Awesome !
That’s a beautiful spec, and design! Props!

Why, so he can get sideswiped by some dude crossing the double yellow in a Dodge? There’s like three accidents a day up there, it’s too much of a scene these days.
@@dynamic348 On the weekends, sure. It's totally fine on weekdays though.
I doubt Tom lives in the Cedar Park area. Just weird to drive 45 min from ATX to LCR if you're not actually going to drive the road. Tons of other great roads to tackle in the area.
Farrah was so impatient to drive it lol
Wish we could of seen yall send it like it's meant to be driven.. loved seeing Tom
Yooo this is a dope episode. I love when Smoking tire has on comedians, and love that somebody like Tom Segura is into cars. With the budget that most of these professional comedians have, I’d have a hard time deciding what to buy, what to build, and what to race
Deman is creating some incredible work. How long does the conversion take?
It can be completed at the same rate dollars come from your wallet :)
2 months
So from what i understand it manages to get 90 more hp than stock motor while having 100fl-lb more torque that comes in earlier, all while only being 0.5l or 12.5% larger displacement...
That sounds like magic almost considering the 4l H6 in the 911 GT3's are already very power dense (hp per liter) for being N/A and a mass produced engine. Very impressive.
It's not on normal pump gas. That makes a huge difference. I'll bet a stock one on E85 would see big gains. (This is not an e85 build in the video)
Not magic, just what a engine builder can do using better parts. Also different fuel and compression
He adds displacement and compression to a point it doesn’t run on pump gas so thats where the extra grunt is found. That and a full exhaust frees up a few more. But yea its amazing that motor can still rev like that and remain reasonably reliable.
We don't know how much power it has but it almost certainly ain't 590 or 591. DeMan use a hub dyno which gives a high number and then do some flat out incorrect calculations to get to crank power. There was a 4.5L 991 Touring from Miami that went with the car to M Engineering's dyno and it read like 100 HP lower than it did at DeMan (I forget exactly but it was a lot). That wasn't a "correct" number either of course. Most dyno's aren't able to give you an accurate number to begin with and then the people who sell these things go looking for the most optimistic interpretation of the best run they can get out of it.
@@JCviggen1 it's 591 crank horsepower probably
What an incredible car! Congrats!
Crazy. I've watched o bunch of Tom's stand up the last few days and then this pops out. He's the man. His dad apparently the man of men.

I remember when I first got my GT3, felt like a Corolla. Clutch, gearshift, interior - all very Corolla like. Once I got past the break-in and could redline it, it all came together.
It is true that these cars are not fun unless you really drive them hard. But then, more power just means less opportunity to drive them hard. So I think I’ll stick with the 4.0.
I have a little 2.9 in my 987.2 Cayman. I can drive the piss out of it and never really uber-break the law. It's a lot of fun.
@@CS-Loc yeh, you’ve got the right balance. Unless I go far far far out of town, the GT3 is quite frustrating, because you just can’t use the performance, let alone get anywhere near the limits of the chassis.

Looking great, love the meteor grey color but i would choose the manual transmission instead of the pdk. Finally the rims are silver not freaking black.

I don't know how he could deal with the Pdk if he ordered a manual, but rich peeps are built different. I'd be like yo where's the stick?!? Take it back!
I think he was probably on the fence or its just Tom being super chill. Most of the rich people I know would flip out if they ordered something, waited along time and it wasn't perfect let alone being a completely different color and trans.
@@memememine1 yeah who knows. Super chill for sure.
he's prob got a manual in the other 4.5. This is for traffic.. altho gt3 is bad for traffic /dailying in general
@@papa_pt I'd still go with a manual for traffic or dailying if it was offered. Automatics actually make me more drowsy because of the boringness so they are more dangerous. But that's me though. I'm sure he's good with his other manual cars.
@@kadedone yeah I can see that. Honestly the razor edge suspension of the gt3 is way more of a hindrance to dailying than a manual.
I don't think any of the rates change on a Touring either (I wish they'd add back seats and a softer suspension)
