Interesting. Please try again with the Red Magic Pro 9. The active cooling might make a real difference in frames, and I want to see if the software will run older games without crashes. Original Crysis/ Batman/ Original Bioshock/ AC Black Flag / Civilization 5 / Medieval Total War 2 / Privateer 2 / Dune 2 / Supreme Commander Forged Alliance / State Of Decay 2/ Deus Ex (new and old) would all be great examples to test out.
I have a Galaxy S10+ just laying around, since upgrading to an S23 Ultra, and because the S10+ supports Dex, I use that in my bedroom hooked up to my old 32inch TV with a Ugreen USB Hub with HDMI output, and I love using it for streaming my desktop to or TV and watch some shows or news. Gives me a good excuse to keep using my S10+ rather then put it up with my other old phones that will likely never be used again. And yes this Ugreen USB C Hub has Type C passthrough, so I can still charge the phone while using it, plus has 3 USB A ports, one of which is USB 3.2, and have a wireless keyboard with a trackpack (Logitech K400) plugged into it through 2.4ghz receiver.
With Microsoft getting behind Windows on ARM chips we might see further progress. I hope! This is the dream - carry a small, lightweight phone all day and simply slot it into a tiny dock at work and home. Gaming, music, movies, photos whatever.. everythong works and gaming is fast
Dex subredded a lot of people have been complaining about the s24 not working with dex since when one ui 6.1. doesn't seem to be a universal issue but certainly not an outlier either based on the amount of anecdotes
Bruh this is awesome. Give it 5 years and people won't even need a PC. Just a phone and if it draws enough power and stays cool enough with some sort of cooler it could do anything.
This actually is mindblowing for any power user. Root the device, get access to terminal, get a way to install linux app, then u get a powerfull multiplatform gaming device and video editing utilities, code utilities, office, anything! dang this could be my main device!
I suggest having a gaming PC, download Parsec on the PC and phone, plug the phone into a display and use Dex, then stream your PC to your phone and be able to game over the display with Dex. I travel to visit family once in a while and I can't take my Gaming PC with me, but I can take a portable monitor, my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, and a Ugreen USB C hub with an HDMI output (which also has a USB C port for charging the device, and boom, a great gaming system while travelling. Yes it is a stream and with poor wifi it can look somewhat poor, but Parsec has really good input latency, like you can't really tell if there is any input lag at all, and most of the time I forget I am streaming my desktop as there is very little artifacting even when the scene gets real busy with explosions and a camera moving around and all that sort of thing.
Not only they can, but they surpass it with ease, at least in regards to processing power. Learn to enjoy your things without trying to put down others'.
There's no need to bash apple fans. I genuinely think Samsung phones are better than Apple phones personally, but fanboyism doesn't get anyone anywhere.
I expected to see 15-20 fps, not 45-60. It's a crazy good showcase of real possibilities of ARM-based devices! I wish, more AAA-games were portedon iOS and Android!
Really cool experiment indeed, however I am struggling really hard to see the actual practicality of this: as money obviously can't be the limit when you rock an S24 Ultra, why not grab literally any recent gaming laptop like a G14, or hell even an ROG ally? Wayyy better performance, and since you would want to play with a controller or keyboard and mouse anyway, the portability is similar. Plus since you docked your phone anyway the ally+eGPU combo would destroy any phone EVEN more (although the iGPU is way more than enough for that already). Great video, please keep up the great work!
Best way would be a PS3 emulator with the original GTA V version. It's the best GTA V imo, has only about 16 gig in size and the old UI which I prefer. Very playable on PC through RPCS3.
@@vaultboy1419 I doubt a phone can play a ps3 emulator that's being emulated through a windows emu lol. But yeah, typically GTA games depreciate with every update, even 3, vc, and sa have all been updated on steam and ps4 to remove songs. So lame

It's impressive and all that, but i think even if the games were run natively, we can see the true performance gap that still exists between ARM architecture in phones compared to X64. Best of the cpu's in ARM could run Fallout 4 natively at medium settings 60 fps 1080p, that's impressive. But in a pc for the same money you would get triple or quadruple performance in ultra LOL. This puts in shame people saying phones are now as powerfull as pc's and should not buy any pc now lol
you have to run steam in small mode so it doesnt crash winlator but small mode has been bugged after recent steam update so it may not work properly anymore so you might have to find a mod called steam for exagear.

I can’t wait to see how powerful the switch 2 will be. Im currently playing some old pc games on my v1 switch with linux and a wine box64 and dxvk combo. Im getting around 30 fps in need for speed underground 2 and need for speed carbon. Ive seen people run fallout 4 etc on it, ofc runs like crap but im really curious to see if the switch 2 will be a cheaper very portable gaming machine. I know i know you can probably get a cheap refurbished steam deck and emulate switch games but with a original switch you get all the multiplayer goodies and the detachable controllers for mario kart and stuff. Really sad to see the switch doesn’t have a proper open world need for speed tho. If it runs at 30fps on linux with a crap ton of compatibility layers they could most certainly make a great game or a remaster of the older titles that run and look way smoother. Crap they brought batman games and no mans sky to the switch.
It's designed to run windows apps, but a lot of focus is put on graphics. I think flstudio would run but most likely a lot of the audio output plugins etc wouldn't be supported so I don't think it'd be a "proper" experience so to speak.
Imagine a portable touchscreen monitor with a slot for your phone that makes it one seamless device, like a Steam Deck but for work and gaming! Paired with Samsung DeX, your phone could instantly turn into a desktop, tablet, or even a gaming setup, all in one. No need for a bunch of different gadgets-just dock your phone and you're good to go!
Awesome. This is just further proof that your smartphone can be your everyday computing device and that software is really the only thing holding it back. But as much as I would like to have a Samsung Galaxy smartphone that can run full Windows in DeX mode, it probably won't happen since Samsung also sells Galaxy laptops and doesn't want to cannibalize their own sales.
At 30 FPS it should then run Fallout 4 at 720p mid settings which is quite crazy. Looking forward to see how games run on SD Elite X with W11. Performance seems equal to the M4. So it will be all about the new and improved TLS which is supposedly up to 3x better than on a SQ2.

@@darkzs3126 It's good for a first gen product, but the software side could use so much improvement. CPU is impressive vs Intel/AMD, but still behind Apple. Also it's GPU essentially an overclocked 8g2, way behind the competition. The 8g4 could possibly surpass it.
I just got my S23 to run Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition from GOG. I'm about 2 hours in with really the only issue being some slow frame pacing/tearing issues. While it is "playable" with very little other issues, the frame rate itself is in the 30's and 20's (its pretty sporadic from low 30s to low 20s) and you can clearly see parts of the old frames from time to time tearing into the current ones (every 5-10 seconds for about a quarter of a second). I've tried changing V-sync on and off to see if that would help but it hasn't. Changing the settings of the Container in Winlator ends up making it so the game just crashes on launch though. So I'm now wondering if I'm going to be exploring getting further into the game and seeing how my phone and Winlator handle the game in its entirety if I should get the original version of the game pre-remaster to see if it runs either better, or without the frame tearing/frame pacing issue. It could totally just be the emulators current state (I'm on 1.7). The only issue with checking if the version of the game will change or fix anything is that storage space is a bit precious with Samsung removing the SD card slot plus how large these games are themselves. I guess as it all progresses some of my experimentation and attempts at playing games like this may become pointless with it all getting better. But for now just putting it out there that Darksiders seems playable on a weaker phone than shown here, and with the right expectations and a little experimentation you can play some pretty impressive games on handhelds now.
Better laten than never. Awesome to see gaming getting more atention on smartphones. But just curious how are temps with running it as a desktop enviroment like this.

I'm thankful Samsung has greatly improved Dex, and now I have a S21. I think my next phone will be the S24 or S25 reburbished
i had an atrix with the dock, it was awesome and yeah very laggy
I love the S21 Series to especially the Ultra 5G though about this Winlator as an emulator, I don't know if it will work for I have the Exynos Version of the Ultra but Dex Sure Both Wireless and with docks it is great.
The performance is very close to what I used to play on a Core i3 7100 8GB ddr4 2400, with GTX750. It's really impressive that such a portable device can perform like this.
For 20 years I've dreamed of one day having a cell phone that could replace my desktop, I don't usually have super powerful RIGs so from my point of view we're very close. I loved my Atrix + Lapdock, unfortunately it became obsolete quickly.
I don't know about other countries, but in my country, the S24 Ultra costs almost as much as a dedicated gaming laptop
here in Brazil it costs more than a 3060 gaming laptop, but having the option to play with the phone is always good

This is what nerds like me have been waiting for for YEARS!! Just seeing Oblivion and fall out working on these phones is next level and feels so futuristic! It won't be long now until this is literally mainstream stuff I give it 5 years time at most before we see 120 hertz 1080 p to 2k with these games on A PHONE! Ridiculous that only 2 decades later would phones be considered gaming consoles! Just wow..
We see Android phones moving towards being computers, while Apple remains stuck to the idea that the phone answers calls and text messages.
Apple is moving towards Android 💀

The issue in oblivion that you faced is natural as Oblivion's pc port didn't have native controller support without mods(like NorthernUI Away), using a M&KB works
You should try Resident Evil 4 and Death Stranding to see how it compares to the new iPhones that run those. Super interesting vid ngl

Seeing it run that well is impressive. I doubt it does very well in downtown Boston as even my 7700k, 1080ti, 32gb ram pc struggled to hold a playable framerate in that location at max settings with some mods
true
Yeah but 1080ti is perfect for 1080 and 1440p. 4K is useless and resource hog. This runs on 720p low settings.
lmao 1080TI + 7700K would absolutely destroy this performance
@@Ehren1337The 1080ti is a fossil in 2024. The RTX 3060 12gb is better than it in everything. Significantly more power efficient, newer features and an extra GB more of vram. Even that is a 1080p GPU.
I'm so glad I upgraded from the s23 Ultra, I almost didn't but when they said that I would have 7 years of updates It seemed stupid not to. I'm just continually finding proof of how much of a powerhouse this phone is. Thanks so much for this video, it's going to spawn quite the research rabbit hole for me. Cheers!!
I am really like your Samsung dex videos😊
Interesting. Please try again with the Red Magic Pro 9. The active cooling might make a real difference in frames, and I want to see if the software will run older games without crashes. Original Crysis/ Batman/ Original Bioshock/ AC Black Flag / Civilization 5 / Medieval Total War 2 / Privateer 2 / Dune 2 / Supreme Commander Forged Alliance / State Of Decay 2/ Deus Ex (new and old) would all be great examples to test out.
For medieval 2 there alreadt feral interactive who as ported natively the game.
Crazy to see ARM at ps4 level almost nearly there 😮
even some native android games like wreckfest looks almost like ps4 game if you max out the graphic settings
Fallout 4 barely maintains 30 fps on PS4!
Snapdragon is already surpassing PS4 at least at CPU power!
@parazels83 exactly, there's absolutely no reason sony cannot make a ps4 portable Rn.
Phones have long had more power than a PS4, but companies are not so interested in it.

720p low 30fps LOL! more like PS3
You should try running Crysis!
Hello ETA. Do you have a link for that cool phone docking station?
Its amazing what you can do with an S24 ultra. It never ceases to surprise me
Dex subredded a lot of people have been complaining about the s24 not working with dex since when one ui 6.1. doesn't seem to be a universal issue but certainly not an outlier either based on the amount of anecdotes
Bruh this is awesome. Give it 5 years and people won't even need a PC. Just a phone and if it draws enough power and stays cool enough with some sort of cooler it could do anything.
Skyrim non special edition and special edition test would be awesome
This actually is mindblowing for any power user. Root the device, get access to terminal, get a way to install linux app, then u get a powerfull multiplatform gaming device and video editing utilities, code utilities, office, anything! dang this could be my main device!
Please do an installation guide for the S24 Ultra. It's cool seeing you play and all, but I haven't been able to find a working version anywhere.

Yes it is a stream and with poor wifi it can look somewhat poor, but Parsec has really good input latency, like you can't really tell if there is any input lag at all, and most of the time I forget I am streaming my desktop as there is very little artifacting even when the scene gets real busy with explosions and a camera moving around and all that sort of thing.
what is the dock your using?
Thanks for this! Had no idea this was out and available
Now what can the apple fans say? Not even their ipad pros can compare
Not only they can, but they surpass it with ease, at least in regards to processing power.
Learn to enjoy your things without trying to put down others'.
Can we do that with the Samsung tablet s series ???
🍿🍿🍿
iPad pro can run resident evil village with ray tracing. That's more demanding game than almost 10 years old fallout 4 running at low 720p 😂
Can you try Mobox next? I have seen people run GTA 5 with that emulator 😂
Great video, please keep up the great work!
in regards to GTA V, wouldnt you also need the Rockstar launcher to work? Wouldnt it just be easier to look for a repack of it?
Yeah but he isn't going to talk about that in a UA-cam video. Solid way to have Rockstar just take the video down and cause a headache
Best way would be a PS3 emulator with the original GTA V version. It's the best GTA V imo, has only about 16 gig in size and the old UI which I prefer. Very playable on PC through RPCS3.
yep, GTAV cracked repacks work. Speaking from experience.😌
@@vaultboy1419 I doubt a phone can play a ps3 emulator that's being emulated through a windows emu lol. But yeah, typically GTA games depreciate with every update, even 3, vc, and sa have all been updated on steam and ps4 to remove songs. So lame
@@laminnabam2299 yeah I've considered it because I'm only really interested in playing five m. I uninstalled the steam version a while ago because I learned Rockstar does not hide you ip

I'm mind-blown 🤯
