Was there that night, i said to my mate jokingly, wouldn't it be epic to hear the organ and they were like nah, it to old for this kind of music, imagine there and my shock when you started playing, they soon changed there mind.
The look of shear joyful anticipation as she is about to play is everything great about music. And the grin seconds after starting and hearing the crowd go nuts was priceless.
This performance brought me to tears- the unbridled joy in her face and the power of the organ with an already beautiful track makes me wish I could have been there in that moment. So grateful to see this captured.
I love the way that giant analogue synth-of-old serenely towers over everything, the boss, reducing all other modern instruments to dust! Watching Anna's control of all that power brings a tear to my eye every time I watch this video.
Historic conjunture. Musical life- changing phenomenon. Music's about to be ennobled again. This was an auspicious, seamless weaving together of ancient and contemporary musical tradition. Watch where this leads.
I just realised that many people in the audience may never have heard an organ being played live or indeed recorded. What an amazing experience listening to the majesty of the massive Royal Albert Hall organ combined with Bonobo. Iconic musical moment!!!
Rookie numbers! 🤣 But absolutely I still get chills, in triple digits now. Especially that first moment "The Voice of Jupiter" slams over the crowd! Her face and smirk were like "You have NO idea what's about to hit you!"
You know that smile just before the initial notes she plays come from pure joy of the momment. If we could put it into a bottle and share it, it would be called happines.
"I wept. As a musician this made me happy beyond what I can explain. I’m so happy for her, I’m so happy for Bonobo, I’m so happy for the people who must have thought the world was ending when the organ started playing, and I’m so happy for all of us who got to see her perform it with the band. This video alone made today an exceptional day".
Watching her count out the measures as Bonobo plays so she's sure to come in at the right spots just shows how professional she is. First woman given a scholarship to Oxford in organ, like, ever, on an instrument that you aren't even allowed to touch for practice until you actually show talent.
This is the only duo I would literally travel anywhere in the world to experience! This is like the epitome of musical history, I can't stop coming back to it
The problem with that is, what you see is only half of the thing. The other half is hidden. And look at the size of it. Also, the big pipes are over 3 tons each.
And to sync all of the tracks and live together is a monumental feat, almost never done and impossible to perform,, lots of factors and one glitch and it’s done, Amazing blend of energetic techno music with the Oldest organ around?
I can't remember the last time I was so moved by a performance - your facial expressions were such a joy to watch! Took us along for the ride. Thanks for sharing this!
I love watching musicians faces too! You can see how they love it! Almost my favorite part, them losing themselves in what they're sharing with us. My friend hates musician face. Such an epic bummer to learn. He prides himself on self-control, and said he can't respect a musician that lets themselves loose to primal face-making.
@@dethmaul So sorry for your friend. Music has no meaning without emotions. I've heard of Anna for the first time yesterday on Tik Tok of all places. WOW!👍🥰
@@dethmaulI pity your friend. He has no idea about the power of music, how real music is deeply felt. A real musician, by playing an instrument or being a vocalist, conveys his feelings. They let go. Otherwise, you just produce noise. Technique is something that can be learned and practised, but feeling is something to be put in. If he thinks, "musician face" is a sign of lack of self-control, he neither understands self-control nor music. If he prefers absolute self-control concerning music he denies himself some of the biggest joys in the world. Poor guy.😢
I've never heard this song, I've never heard of this band (I was honestly expecting a small chimp-like creature to appear in this video), and I've never heard of Anna Lapwood. But yes, this was one of the most moving things I've stumbled upon on UA-cam in ages. It's so great to see a musician caught in the ecstasy of their art. And there's something particularly evocative about performing in that spot, perched above the stage, back to the audience. She's right in the centre of everything, and yet apart. Alone, with the suggestion of loneliness, amongst all those people. But still at the heart of the music. Great stuff.
This version of the song changed it forever…. Watched it probably 50 times in 2 days and keeps spinning in my head. The facial expression says it all. I’ve read her bio and this women is something very special. For me it’s so cool to watch a musician enjoying what she does. Very very cool, very very epic.
I’m so rarely significantly moved by any media but every time I hear the final bit starting at 4:10 it actually brings tears to my eyes, especially once 4:50 hits. Absolutely wild.
I just watched that moment again (for like the 20th time!), and the thing I really like is that she is in 'control'. She has this look of 'I know what I'm doing...see this massive machine? I know how to work this, stand back...you are not going to believe what this can do'. Its very strange how so many people are saying they are emotionally connected to this isn't it?
@@GavCritchley that slight smirky smile as she knows she’s blowing people’s minds is fantastic. Yes, I have no idea where the emotional connection comes from. I am the furthest thing from religious or spiritual - I wouldn’t even consider myself sentimental - but I feel something welling in me every time I hear this moment. Even when just listening on the terrible iPhone speakers.
I'm always amazed at how many people never get a chance to shine. Not due to lack of ability, but simply because they're too often simply overlooked. While it's not really my genre, I have nothing but respect for an artist with enough of a generous spirt that they can give an obviously talented peer the opportunity. The look on her face during the whole experience says it all for me.
I'm from Switzerland and i do not know, who Bonobo is nor do i know Anna Lapwood and i don't know what i see here. BUT, i have Goosebumps!! I'm sure It was a very special Moment for ALL of them there (live!)
Bonobo's an old school trip-hopper that's gone more upbeat in recent incarnations, he's known for incorporating "real" instruments in his live stuff so this pairing is very natural for his music.
Watching her face in the beginning trying to stay calm and relaxed but also getting excited and trying to hold in her smile and joy…this was awesome to watch
That thing is so powerful it doesn't even need to be mic'd up. If you've never had an opportunity to listen to an organ at it's loudest, you need to. It's earth shattering. What a beautiful instrument.
Oh me too! There is a version released by the Royal Albert Hall and it is very good. But this one is up close. You get to hear the crowd roar in joy an surprise. Nothing will ever beat that. I wish I'd been there SO much.
As someone into edm and who likes organ music, this makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up and gives me goosebumps all over!! Absolutely amazing! And someone cutting onions around me at 4:53
@AnnaLapwoodOrgan BTW, should you ever come across the guys & gals who made the OST for "Final Space", *do a jam session.* I recently did a "reORGANization" of their pieces (see ua-cam.com/video/lSuKmNvgC0Y/v-deo.html for reference) -- and it's a blanket of pure pipe organ immersiveness. You should try it as well!
I'm late to the party, HOWEVER, I'm one of the first to raise my hands when Anna comes in (bottom central right) because you can FEEL an organ before you hear it. And i knew what it was. Unexpected, infinitely welcome, best musical experience of my life, it was a great and tasteful collab.
I don't know exactly which person you are, but I went back and watched it and I see you!! And the few other people in that area that raised their hands, lol. I know you must be one of them! That must've been so incredible to be there, thanks for sharing your experience with the rest of us!
0:11 The smile gets me every time: "this is about to happen". Then the counting bars later on (nothing like coming in at the wrong bar)!.... Being part of a musical production is quite amazing.
I can see Anna loving every moment. She is very expressive. You can see her counting and gasping for air because she is so excited. So incredibly passionate! I'm totally impressed by her dedication to this wonderful instrument. She is dead on focussed. What a talent! I will definitely follow her career from now on.
For over 60 years I have wanted to hear that organ played like that. My surround sound took me right there and that lass’s face was just the cream on the cake. Wonderful.
Never heard of Bonobo until I saw Anna Lapwood’s UA-cam of this. I’m 72 yrs young. My dad was an organist at a church my whole childhood. Sat next to him as he worshipped the God of the universe, playing his heart & soul out. The vibration of this performance brings it all to life again. Like being on a runway beneath jet planes taking off! Thank you Bonobo producer for having ears to hear Anna as she rehearsed in Royal Albert Hall and inviting her to enhance this composition ‘Otowo’. Nothing less than majestic.
I heard this, few minutes ago, for the first time and very loud (on my Hifi System). This was the first time in my life, and i'm 57 years old, especially at the end, I HAD TEARS IN MY EYES (and I don't no why)! It' absolutely amazing! Thank you.
Huge Bonobo fan here, this caught me off guard and I am crying in joy right now. No words can describe how much I would have loved to witness this in person. Thank you Anna!
1. Anna looks a little nervous. 2. Anna says to herself "ok let's do this". 3. Anna's face says "they've no idea what's about to hit them". 4. Sound. 5. Joy. You couldn't have put it better. "So goooood!"
I bet Anna Lapwood will be part of the team whenever Bonobo plays RAH. Hats off to Anna of course but also to Bonobo's band for seeing the possibility!
Considering that they wrote this section over a single day, I'm looking forward to what happens when they come back. Because next time they will know that she is here and they will plan accordingly.
I can hardly describe how does this make me feel. Seeing the organ in the background, now hidden, almost tossed aside to not spoil the big modern music, forgotten by modern audience since it's out of date. And then all of a sudden making it's presence known, and reminding us of all the grand work our ancestors put into creating such a grandiose instrument, at it's time one of the most complicated machines in the world. It's like a phoenix risen from the ashes. It makes my eyes tear.
I've never been so proud of someone i've never met before! Truly wonderful to see both views combined! I hope one day i'm lucky enough to here you play that majnificent organ in person.
I started counting the measures with her. All the years of band came rushing back. So well done! I cannot imagine the rush of experiencing this in person.
Hats off to Bonobo for writing in the organ in such a way as to hilight it, instead of just using it as a "backing vocal". He got it to suddenly jump out at the audience and sing by itself, then there was a back-and-forth "conversation" between his instruments and the organ, then the organ ended the piece with a loud majestic roar.
Imagine getting surprised by an organ. That's gotta be the musical equivalent of a dreadnought class battleship pulling up behind you. Awesome in the truest sense of the word.
One of those times you just wish you were there to take it all in ! The power of that organ, the beat of that track & what a player that organist is....... WOW !!!!
Exactly! Never depend upon the Conductor, Director, or Leader of the Band to ‘bring you in at the correct moment”; it is your responsibility as a mature musician to count the measures of ‘rest’!
This is so badass. Stuff like this brings joy to so many people. What an amazing moment. This is how you gild a show 4:52 . Listen to that crowd. What a serendipitous and sublime add by Bonobo. Smart move by the band. This had to sound so incredible? And with that...A Star is born. Shout out to Bonobo and whomever wrote this part for her...craaaaaazy good.
Absolutely fantastic inspiring live performance, all the more considering how rapidly it was written and put together. Anna's joy in performing it is wonderful to behold. Stunning piece of musical delivery.
Feeling envy of crowd. It's like the organ was sleeping for years and when it finally woke it demolishes every instrument with its majestic sound presence.
This was one of the best goosebumped fueled scores I have listened to so far in this short life, Music is the closest thing to a higher power and I stand by this statement even more after this special occasion!!!
I've been on the concert from this tour in Poland. Otomo blew me away! BUT there were no organ there... I can't even imagine how powerful it sounds with live organ.
Just wow! What a sublime gift to be able to play this timeless instrument with such deft clarity and such joy. Made me cry. Simply beyond superlatives.
She was ticking off the measures, waiting for her turn to blast some eardrums with that monster pipe organ. "I'ma _wreck_ this shit in five... four... three... two... one..." _::liftoff!::_
I have to keep coming back to this video. I have been suffering mentally for a while now and this video makes me smile, makes me happy and makes me cry tears of joy every time I watch this. This has helped me through some very dark times. The power of music to heal is very important in life, thank you.
Thank you so much for posting the entire song. I’ve watched various forms of this maybe 30 times and sincerely every time that first blast of organ hits I tear up with how beautiful it is and the crowd’s reaction to it. The finale is even better.
@@MarkRose1337 Yep - I just caught this clip and that was my exact reaction. Provokes such an emotional response - I don't know if it's the power of the organ or the obvious joy of the performance. Probably both.
I agree, have spent part of the weekend watching it and sharing it with others, each time the tears stream down my face, what an experience it must have been to hear that live. I hope some day I can travel there and hear it myself.
Wanna make it even better? Play this on a decent sound system with suitable low-end power. The amount of bass in a pipe organ is just _nuts._ This version of this song will shake the paint off the walls.

Was there that night, i said to my mate jokingly, wouldn't it be epic to hear the organ and they were like nah, it to old for this kind of music, imagine there and my shock when you started playing, they soon changed there mind.
this world needs so much more of this
The look of shear joyful anticipation as she is about to play is everything great about music. And the grin seconds after starting and hearing the crowd go nuts was priceless.
Absolutely magical. Enough said......
What a wonderful moment for her ....and the audience !
This performance brought me to tears- the unbridled joy in her face and the power of the organ with an already beautiful track makes me wish I could have been there in that moment. So grateful to see this captured.
Totally agree - my thoughts exactly. Absolutely mesmerised - sheer joy. Thank you Anna
Same here. Add goosebumps.
Was surprised at how emotional i felt watching this!
I don't know why but I'm also in tears.. power of music
Same here! The joy on her face made me emotional!
I love the way that giant analogue synth-of-old serenely towers over everything, the boss, reducing all other modern instruments to dust! Watching Anna's control of all that power brings a tear to my eye every time I watch this video.
I'm trying to imagine having that much power at my fingertips...
@@kcanded me too!!😄
Historic conjunture.
I come back to watch this, every few weeks, watch it another 6 times, and read all the new comments.....
Same! Haha… just soooo good
Me too
Me too. And every time those tears start running.
Right here with you brother
I do this every day. For heartwarmin`
0:28
And at that moment, you became the most powerful person in the entire hall. Absolutely breathtaking.
I'm sure shes used to that...😆 lmao
@@meddle333 Not necessarily, especially with a band like Bonobo's behind you!
@@kcanded That's fair! 😂👍
Transcendent. One of the luckiest audiences in the history of music.
Is it bad that I've watched this ~20x and still get chills??
Yes, horrible. Why have you not watched it 40x yet :-p
Rookie numbers! 🤣
But absolutely I still get chills, in triple digits now. Especially that first moment "The Voice of Jupiter" slams over the crowd! Her face and smirk were like "You have NO idea what's about to hit you!"
It would be bad if you heard this and felt nothing
I love the cheeky wee grins where she just can't hide how much fun she's having. So infectious! Brilliant!
Indeed!
The face she makes when unleashing the beast upon the audience! Fuck yeah she’s gonna rock your world like you never expected!
You know that smile just before the initial notes she plays come from pure joy of the momment. If we could put it into a bottle and share it, it would be called happines.
Organists need to get 5000 people cheering for them like this more often
First female Magdalen College organ scholar--in *560 years*
Well she absolutely 100% deserve it, and then some!
Again, was never so enthralled before,......... watching someone counting bars.
This is the only duo I would literally travel anywhere in the world to experience! This is like the epitome of musical history, I can't stop coming back to it
The problem with that is, what you see is only half of the thing. The other half is hidden. And look at the size of it. Also, the big pipes are over 3 tons each.
@@gundam2jimmy Completely agreed. And I can imagine the feeling of the sound waves and shared emotions in the hall, but I can only imagine.
Totally agree
One of THE greatest musical collaborations ever; even greater when you consider they only met the night before (1am, actually) ❤️

Poor guy.😢
@dethmaul ......surley this is a wind-up to create unnecessary comment...... I can't even think why you would make such a comment .......
Very very cool, very very epic.
i regularly come back to this video because i get chills every single time
Not only did they write you a part… they wrote an entire set of lighting cues and ran audio, etc. the day of… all that for some Bach! ❤
4:50 The moment all Heaven broke loose.
@@GavCritchley I know!! I can't stop watching it - simply amazing!!
Watching her verbally counting down the bars was a lot of fun, too. That smile, that rush! What fun!
I don‘t know Bonobo either, but I‘ve been a huge fan of Anna‘s cross-over approach to organ-playing for a while.
Look her up on Wikipedia and you will be enlightened.
Never heard of them either but it's such a cool moment for them both. She did great!
Bonobo's an old school trip-hopper that's gone more upbeat in recent incarnations, he's known for incorporating "real" instruments in his live stuff so this pairing is very natural for his music.
Oh dude check out bonobo. His music is fantastic. Some of it's dancey, some chill, all is brilliant though
Watching her face in the beginning trying to stay calm and relaxed but also getting excited and trying to hold in her smile and joy…this was awesome to watch
Perfect example of something that shouldn't work, yet is perfection in its majesty. Accompanied by the best smile on the Internet.
Props to the lighting designer.
Look at this! It's the size of a mountain and ITS SINGING! LOOK AT IT!!!
It sings the song of its people, and screams to the heavens, "witness me!"
Mad props to the Lampy, the whole room is absolutely jumping!
Everytime I listen to this, even though I know it's coming, I cry when Anna first unleashes the organ. Every. Single. Time.
That thing is so powerful it doesn't even need to be mic'd up. If you've never had an opportunity to listen to an organ at it's loudest, you need to. It's earth shattering. What a beautiful instrument.
All fancy electronic sound gear fades away into insignificance when these beasts come to play.
It wasn't even running at full volume...
after about 100 times watching im still getting goosebumps and im nearly crying, well done lady

Me too. I come back to this vid so many times. Thank you ANNA. You ROCK star
Oh me too! There is a version released by the Royal Albert Hall and it is very good. But this one is up close. You get to hear the crowd roar in joy an surprise. Nothing will ever beat that. I wish I'd been there SO much.
@@Fizz-Pop i know the other version but here you can see how anna feels the music, its incredible. Still goosebumps and tears.
I've been crying since day one. This piece is majestic. 🥺
Epic moment 👍👍👍
I love how Anna hits those keys first time with pure joy, she knows what's coming....
As someone into edm and who likes organ music, this makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up and gives me goosebumps all over!! Absolutely amazing! And someone cutting onions around me at 4:53
Same. Awesome seeing these two worlds meet here and so brilliantly.
I love how they brought down the stage lights and lit up you and the organ to give you and your organ the moment you deserved
The lighting designer/operator is phenomenal!
One year later...and this gig's still rockin' the house! :)
@AnnaLapwoodOrgan BTW, should you ever come across the guys & gals who made the OST for "Final Space", *do a jam session.*
I recently did a "reORGANization" of their pieces (see ua-cam.com/video/lSuKmNvgC0Y/v-deo.html for reference) -- and it's a blanket of pure pipe organ immersiveness.
Anna Lapwood is similar to Caitlin Clark. She has brought the Royal Albert Hall to the attention of so many of us who would have never heard of it!
Otomo will never be the same again
The look of pure joy on her face.
For over 60 years I have wanted to hear that organ played like that. My surround sound took me right there and that lass’s face was just the cream on the cake. Wonderful.
Indeed! You may appreciate Anna von Hausswolff’s Deathbed as well. A live version at Orgelkraft is on YT.
This is pure magic! (And I never heard of "Bonobo" before.)✨🖖🤗
Me either. What a find. I love the internet for just this reason.
Been a year since discovering this and I still visit and tear up lol

One-year-later crowd reporting o/
How many Bonobo fans are now Anna Lapwood fans, too? 🙂
And vice versa
Thank you.
Same. This is crazy good stuff
...love to hear something like this become a James Bond movie song
go check out 'mudita'
I'll tell ya WHY...that is yr soul being moved to tears!! ✨
And yet your HiFi system doesn’t do the organ justice.
@@paulvolkmann2979Ja, nicht im entferntesten!
You are about to witness the power of a fully operational space station.
Also Anna: "Oh, they think _this_ is loud? Watch me do work."
Why am I crying so hard to this. Most beautiful sound and performance ever, please do a tour together!! (Hard to bring your instrument tho)
I've never been so proud of someone i've never met before! Truly wonderful to see both views combined! I hope one day i'm lucky enough to here you play that majnificent organ in person.
I love the little grin at 0:20 where you're thinking "here it comes". You know what's about to happen but the audience has no idea.
Back for the 30 time…… this is F…… the best ……with I was there. Greetings from Danmark,
Imagine getting surprised by an organ.
That's gotta be the musical equivalent of a dreadnought class battleship pulling up behind you.
Awesome in the truest sense of the word.
Great comment. I agree!
One of those times you just wish you were there to take it all in !
The power of that organ, the beat of that track & what a player that organist is....... WOW !!!!
Additional to her big grin her look says a several times: "Okay guys, now it's my turn!" 🙂 love that... Cool Job, Anna!
Who wants to see Anna perform AC/DC’s Thunderstruck on the Royal Albert Hall organ?!? 🤗🤗
Never seen a person who is so deeply into her profession. So beautiful!
Came here from the shorts version. Love the split screen showing how you experienced it!! Was counting the bars with you lol
And yes, even professionals count bars! Thank you Anna…❤
Her smile just says it all! she was stoked!
Anna is just LOVING this! I love seeing her play; she's in her element. I love watching talented people do their thing.
Absolutely fantastic inspiring live performance, all the more considering how rapidly it was written and put together. Anna's joy in performing it is wonderful to behold. Stunning piece of musical delivery.
One of the greatest of our time!! What a privilege to watch her play 👏🏽💐
Must have watched it a hundred times now…
Same here.
Feeling envy of crowd. It's like the organ was sleeping for years and when it finally woke it demolishes every instrument with its majestic sound presence.
From 4.52, the next 52 seconds are my favourite on all UA-cam.
This was one of the best goosebumped fueled scores I have listened to so far in this short life, Music is the closest thing to a higher power and I stand by this statement even more after this special occasion!!!
Me too!! I would have loved to have heard that being played live. Putting it on through my Heko Speakers tomorrow. The house with Vibrate!!!
Music scores the Universe, the domain of the King of kings Whom David couldn't have exalted more conscientiously and beautifully
I'm doing my part to push this track over 1 million views. Multiple views every day for the past couple weeks. I can't stop listening to this!
She’s so cute counting loudly 😊
But the passion and joy she’s playing with is the best!
It’s amazing. One can feel the concentration for hitting the cue. And at the same time the joy of a performance gone right.
I've been on the concert from this tour in Poland. Otomo blew me away! BUT there were no organ there... I can't even imagine how powerful it sounds with live organ.
You can hear that Moment, when she opens up the pipes and every person in that hall is just Stunned at the Power and Majesty of the organ!
Not ashamed to admit that i watch this clip every damn day. ❤ Anna. That chorus at 4:52 is straight 🔥🔥🔥FIRE🔥🔥🔥
Just wow!
What a sublime gift to be able to play this timeless instrument with such deft clarity and such joy.
Made me cry.
Simply beyond superlatives.
I love this. The counting. The smile. The engagement. It is everything to me.
Focus on the positives, my friend, focus on the positives.
Thank you so much for posting the entire song. I’ve watched various forms of this maybe 30 times and sincerely every time that first blast of organ hits I tear up with how beautiful it is and the crowd’s reaction to it. The finale is even better.
You and me both. I can't make it through without wet eyes. It is just so beautiful.
@@OddlyIncredible This is true. The emotion in the organ really comes alive on my high fidelity system. Even $300 ear buds don't do it justice. The audio quality on Royal Albert Hall video is much better.
